It's not that silly. Your last name used to be your profession.

That's why Smith is one of the most common last names: blacksmith, silversmith, goldsmith, locksmith. I'm not kidding. The last names actually used to be Blacksmith and Goldsmith, but over time they split into Black, Gold, and Smith. Cooper is another example of this. A cooper was someone who made barrels. Also Miller, Baker, Carpenter, Taylor, and Cook.

Other last names evolved from location (Lake, Hill), heritage (Danson aka "Son of Dan) or physical traits (Noseworthy, Small).

True, although the last name of hooker is not as racy as it sounds, because the word only gained that meaning around the civil war. In regards to last name it probably had something to do with the craft of making fishing hooks or something like that.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this. I'm enraged, and you should be too. Yesterday, the US Supreme Court overturned campaign finance laws that prevent corporations from producing political ads in support of campaigns. So from now on, Wal*Mart will pick the American president. John McCain must be spinning in his grave...

McCain isn't dead.

Said the Democrat to the Republican, without a hint of irony.

You are using a different definition of dead than I am. I am referring to the "six feet under" dead, whereas you seem to be using something more cerebral.

Oh, for fuck's sake, it's a "McCain is old!" joke.

Well, it's a terrible one.

There are a lot of what if's in life Donny. What if I hit you really hard in the face, knocked yo shit to the back of yo skull? What if I....had you girl gargle my nuts? The fact remains, you are a fuckin mutant.

I just want to say, I heard this in my head to the "Do You Hear what I Hear" melody.

Yeah, though. This kinda sucks. Bigger companies getting more power over who's elected could be a dangerous thing.

Late to the party, but I am really surprised to hear that Syd was "enraged" by this. It is my understanding that you are a republican, who supports no regulation of Big Business and trickle down economics. (I always laugh when I hear trickle). Anyways, this was a political move on the part of a conservative Supreme Court to ensure the Republicans, who are backed by big business, can buy the next election.

After getting Republican asses handed to them by the Dems, drastic measures have now been taken to ensure that the GOP. Mobile and Wal-Mart can ensure their world domination. Its pretty disgusting, and in a time where we call a President a Socialist Communist for trying to take on drug companies, this doesn't surprise me. I am surprised that Fox News hasn't called this the biggest win in Civil Rights since Plessy V. Ferguson.
