Can't say that I'm all that excited for this, especially after Spiderman 3, but I am kinda curious about the villains.

The Lizard comes? Dylan Baker confirmed for Spider-Man 4

Dylan Baker and Michael Dougherty were at a presentation of Trick 'r Treat last night at New York’s Walter Reade Theater for Lincoln Center’s third annual “Scary Movies” program.

During a post-screening Q & A, Baker confirmed that he is on board for Sam Raimi’s forthcoming Spider-Man 4. According to reports, Baker said that he had just gotten his first call concerning Spider-Man 4 that very day. Baker appeared in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 as Dr. Curt Connors, a professor at Empire State University.

Lizards pretty cool I guess.
maybe they can fit Kraven in some way whos on the hunt for the elusive spider-man and gets entangled in with the Lizard.

Also I want to see Kingpin in a spider-man film somewhere. Mad

My only problem with continuing the movies is that the threat in each movie has to be greater or equal to what the last movie had to offer. Look at the original Batman franchise, you go from Joker to Mr. Freeze, and while the direction of the movies have a lot to do with that, I don't think most comic book fans would agree that both comic book villians are on the same level. Lizard is a pretty good villian, but I wouldn't consider him to be on par with either Green Goblin or Venom. They could possibly go the route that Peter doesn't want to go after Connors because he fears to lose the only "father figure" he has left since both Osbourne and Octavious are gone. The idea of Kraven is a pretty good idea. I also wouldn't mind someone like Electro to make a cameo.

I've always been particular to the Sinister Six with Kingpin, but I don't think we'll ever see that.

Misterio would be nice as a villain-to-butt monkey type role.

Misterio is cool, when I was much younger I used to call him Clam-man. Even though it's actually oysters that are most well known to produce pearls. The name stuck even until about 6 or 7 years ago, since I was so used to calling him that.

Also, if Rhino and Shocker team up, then I'll be the first one to get a ticket.

There was an episode where Rhino accidently rips Shocker's suit and it almost explodes, but Shocker runs away in his underwear. Fucking classic.

You know I thought for sure we had a topic on this already, but for the life of me I couldn't find it and I went back like 10 pages in the search. Hrmph. If anyone does find it let me know and I'll merge this where it belongs.

Anyway, actual topic: this is still unconfirmed as of right now, but the comic book corner of the web is buzzing with the rumor that Vulture is slated to be one of the main villains in Spiderman 4, and that--get this--John Malkovitch is is negotiations to play him.

Best. Fucking. Casting. EVER. If this is true, I am almost willing to forgive them for the travesty that was Spidy 3.

Thank you very much. Merged!

Malkovitch as Vulture is still total win, btw.

Surprised no one mentioned Black Cat, since she's very prominent on one of those posters. Hopefully Vulture will be Spider-Man 5, because that's probably enough new super people for one movie.

Quote:
Tuesday came bearing news that because of apparent script issues, Sony would likely be ditching their proposed May 6, 2011 release date for the latest entry of their hugely successful SPIDER-MAN franchise.

With the first weekend of the 2011 summer movie season now up for grabs, Variety reports that Paramount has done some shuffling, and another Marvel Comics hero will be taking Spidey’s place. Originally slated for May 20th, Kenneth Branagh’s fantasy/super hero epic THOR will be bumped up two weeks to fill the slot.

Disney also appears to have made a quick move, setting the release of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES to Thor’s old spot.

With such a high-profile sequel following closely it’s wake, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of numbers a B-list comic character like Thor will be able to pull from movie-goers. It’s easy to assume that everyone at Paramount and Marvel have their fingers crossed that lightening will strike twice, and that the film will be as well received commercially and critically as 2008’s IRON MAN.

I totally get what your saying, but I think as long as they make it an interesting and coherent story it will be good. I mean, he didn't always fight stronger and stronger enemies in the comics, but there were always interesting things happening.

I also approve of kraven the hunter making an entrance. I don't know why, but kraven is one of my favorite spiderman characters.

also, thor is B- list? since when?

Spidey Villains I wouldn't mind being used: Vulture, Lizard, Kraven, Shocker, Rhino, Electro, Hydro-Man, Mysterio,
Spidey Villains I have reservations with use: Chameleon (would need a good reason to be included, maybe as a minion for Vulture), Hammerhead (would have to be another minion for the main villain), Scorpion, Tombstone, (see Hammerhead)
Spidey Villains I don't want used: Carnage (they fucked up Venom, meaning they don't deserve to use him), Beetle (honestly seems more like a mook for Iron Man), Boomerang, Demogoblin (Yet-another-[hob]goblin and too much backstory to execute in one movie), Spot, and Swarm (THE PAIN!!!!)

I'm perfectly fine with Thor coming out before Spider-Man instead of after it.

Yeah, I have absolutely no knowledge of Thor, except for an unrelated DOS game. Am I the only one completely bored with Spiderman at this point?

How have you never heard of Thor? Even if you haven't read comics before you should know who Thor is. It's not like he's exactly a new creation.

As for Spidey villains, I'd really like to see them do the Kingpin and do it right this time.

He's the fucking God of thunder. What's to know?

Sure he's sharing the body of a human doctor out in the middle of nowhere (Which is also where Asgard is now located, floating directly above the middle of nowhere), but that's all unimportant. Thor = mythic God with a big fucking hammer that conjures lightning. That's all the movie really needs. Oh, and his brother's a dick.

Yeah, but his father is Anthony Hopkins, which is complete win.

Who the heck IS playing Loki, speaking of the devil? They better cast him right, or that movie is not going to be pretty, Sir Anthony or no Sir Anthony.

Spider-Man 4 No More?

So says the one-two combo of Nikki Finke and recent Variety transplant Michael Flemming.

According to a source of Finke’s, director Sam Raimi finally pulled out after being unable to come to terms with the scripts coming his way for the fourth film. This comes after John Malkovich revealed he is attached–er, was attached–to be The Vulture.

Instead, Sony Pictures will reboot the entire franchise with “Jamie” (but I assume Finke meant James) Vanderbilt, who is attached to the mythical fifth and sixth Spider-Man scripts, as well as the original screenplay for the fourth film that Raimi hated.

Of course, that doesn’t matter now–Raimi and the entire cast are removed and will be replaced. No more dance sequences after all.

Quote:
"As you know there's a lot of drama revolving around the Spider-Man 4 production right now. The film was recently put on hold until Sam Raimi and Sony can figure things out. It doesn't seem like they are seeing eye to eye on a few things. The last we heard Raimi hated the script that they had, so they are currently waiting for the new script being written to be turned in. When it is they will decide how they want to proceed from there.

We've been hearing that the biggest problem revolves around who the villain will be, and it was reported that Sam Raimi is hell bent on casting John Malkovich as The Vulture.

In a recent interview with an Italian sports show called Quelli Che il Calcio, Malkovich was asked about the role and the film production. The Italian website Bad Taste summed up what was said in the interview.

When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn't deny his involvement, but confirmed that he's waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible.

So Malkovich has confirmed his involvement with the film, and he's waiting for that script comes in just like everyone else. Raimi has been wanting to work with Malkovich for some time now, he was actually was going to play the Green Goblin if Willem Dafoe turned it down or wasn't able to do it.

Malkovich is a fantastic actor and you couldn't ask for better person to take on the role of The Vulture. I just hope this ends up being the best possible Spider-Man movie it can be. If Sony Pictures and Sam Raimi screw up again then they shouldn't bother making anymore and give the rights back to Marvel. It already seems like fans are fed up after that third movie. One more bad film and it could kill the franchise.

I can't understand why sony would give raimi shit. let's recap:

-raimi did what he wanted in spiderman 1, great film.
-raimi did what he wanted in spiderman 2, great film.
-sony tightened up for spiderman 3, raimi wasn't happy, bad film.
-sony keeps fucking with raimi, no film.
