Well, I was late to the next gen so I was also late to Fallout 3. I never played PC games besides Diablo so I wasnt expecting much when I picked this game up for 10 bucks at a Blockbuster going out of business sale. I knew I didnt like FPS games, so I really wasnt too excited to try it. Besides that, I just plugged it in and played, never read a review, never looked at a guide book.

All I can say is that I have not been addicted to a video game this much since FF7, and I would place this game in any top ten of all time video games for me. So I wondered if there were any posts back when it came out way back in 08, and there were. What I found amongst the Sydlexia-lytes is that they bitched about every detail and cried a bunch about how it did not live up to the Fallout Series. WTF.

I enjoyed this game all the way through, and am now enjoying Broken Steel. Yes,, the writing can be campy, and the graphics arent mind blowing, but the game is deep and wide open. And you know what I enjoyed about FF7? Fucking Sidequests and leveling up, plenty of that shit here. So Am I wrong if I think this game is amazing, or does it suck and there are other FPS/RPG's that are far superior that I should know about. Please tell me,

I played Fallout 3, and I do play on buying it, but it isn't quite top 10 for me. Borderlands I find has surpassed it in the fpsrpg genre, having what felt like smoother controls, better options for characters, a surprisingly awesome cast of characters, and cooler weapons. Is it good? yes, but there was better.

I think that since Bethesda took over the franchise, it's become the future version of the elder Scrolls game. Sure it's fun but getting killed by a raider when your character is leveled up like Jesus. I've played parts of the older games and in comparison, they are totally different.
But I agree that it is a good game and the Karma system makes me think twice about everything, though I can't help but be good. The Dark Side makes me feel like a dick... Also good idea with Broken Steel, the Lvl 20 came way too soon for me.

I don't remember if I bitched or not, being that I'm a huge fallout fan, but I don't mind it now. The VATS system is fun.

I think the feel and atmosphere of the game is still similar to the first two. I never felt the urge to beat Fallout 3 like I did with the others though.

i never sat down and beat it either. I don't know what's wrong with me. I used to pride myself on the fact that I'd beat every game that I got, and looking at my 360 games now, I haven't beaten most of them.

Fallout 3 completely consumed my life from March to June of 2009.

Then I downloaded the Broken Steel pack, and when I leveled up to level 21, the game corrupted my save. I haven't played it since, as I had logged in quite a lot of hours into my save. :'(

I've been playing this by bits and pieces at a friend's place. The first time I had to stop right after leaving Vault 101. The second time I had several days to play it (about 14 hours of game play). I love the shishkebab.

Especially when you shoot a held grenade in some raider's hand.

Fallout 3 and Borderlands are two completely different experiences and shouldn't be compared. The only thing they have in common is that they're FPS that take place in the future. Despite it's faults, Fallout 3 is easily a better overall game, seeing as how not everyone wants to play a loot driven grindfest with no story/immersion whatsoever. I enjoyed both games a lot, but probably put 3 or 4x the amount of time into Fallout 3 easily.

I like borderlands because my character is customized to punch people and make them catch fire. it's more fun in multiplayer than singleplayer, where my sniper pal can't get a clean shot because everyone is running around panicking while on fire..

I was skeptical about Fallout 3 at first, but now I can safely say it's my favorite Fallout game, and that the series feels better as an FPS. I loved just walking around the map, finding each little explore point, and trying out all of the different weapon types. When Bethesda finally starts using a gameplay engine that doesn't feel stiff and wonky, future Fallout games by them could be the only thing I play.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I sank a ton of hours in to wandering around exploring ruins and eradicating raiders. Never really got around to main story.

Did anyone else here do like what I did, lugging around 300-something pounds of gear when I'm encumbered after 125 pounds?

I bought Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition back in October, and it's been a very fun game. I haven't played the first two games, so I can't really compare it to anything except Oblivion. In all honesty, the two games are extremely similar in more than a few aspects - so I would say I'm biased - but Fallout 3 has been pretty enjoyable.

Some of my complaints about the game are its soundtrack - the oldies music is a nice touch, but the actual music created for the game is pretty weak - and the difficulty curve, which takes little time to amass a ridiculous amount of money and power. The main plot was okay, but nothing memorable.

Still, I feel that there's more than enough to keep you busy, so those downsides aren't too outstanding.

I've been on the fence about picking this game up for a couple of years now. With the noteable exception of Gears of War, FPS's have never been my thing either. But I think this has finally pushed me over the edge to try it, once I finish with Assassin's Creed 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.....which should be a while yet.

The nice thing about Fallout 3, is if you don't like FPS games, you don't have to play like one. You can use the VATS system in all combats, and then it becomes more like a turn based RPG in combat.

Yeah, there are quite a few. I'd recommend saving often. Sometimes the game will freeze up or produce stretchy graphical glitch errors, so it's good to have a recent save to reload just in case.

Hooray for Gears! You can actually play Fallout 3 in third person mode (you can also determine how close the camera is to your character's back), although this makes picking up objects a bit difficult.

I would say this game definitely plays more like an RPG than a shooter, though. You're of course most likely to use guns and flamethrowers in combat, but the overall premise is to interact with NPCs and do quests.

I'd recommend you try to borrow it from someone to check if you like it.

My only problem with Fallout 3 is that it has a drab color scheme, otherwise it's awesome especially The Mysterious Stranger perk.
