Hey guys,

Has this happened to any of you ps3 owners?

To the best of my knowledge all ps3s are compatible with ps1 games and some with ps2 games. My problem is with ps1 though. Are all ps1 games compatible?

Recently from ebay i bought Speed Freaks (or Speed Punks to you in the USA) and it was listed as mint when it arrived however it was far from mint condition. The box was broken and there were scratches etc. but anyway i stuck it in my ps3 and started tournament. Did the first race and then during the loading screen for the second race it froze up.

I tried doing it a number of times to see if it was a one off occurrence - which it wasn't. I tried cleaning the disc and it still did it. So i presumed since all my other ps1 games i have been playing on it: CTR and FFIX were working fine that it was a problem with the disc - since it was clearly not in mint condition.

So i ordered another one off ebay from a different seller and it arrived today and was in better condition. I stuck it in my ps3 and played first race and it froze at THE EXACT SAME PLACE.

Now is this a ps3 problem or a disc problem. I would think ps3 since it could not be a coincidence that both discs froze at the exact same place. Has anything like this happened to any of you?

The PS2 had similar problems. The original PS2 could not run the following PSX games properly:

Legend of Dragoon
Lunar Silver Star Story
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions
Final Fantasy Tactics

The newer, slim PS2 could not run the following PSX games properly:

102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue
Akuji: The Heartless
Barbie: Race and Ride
Broken Helix
Bubsy 3D
Driver
The Hive
Hooters: Road Trip
In Cold Blood
Jampack Vol. 2
Land Before Time: Great Valley Racing Adventure
NFL Xtreme
NHL 2000
NHL 2001
NHL Blades of Steel 2000
NHL Rock the Rink
One (video game)
PO'ed
Powerboat Racing (VR Sports)
Rascal
Rush Down
Sentient
Speed Punks
Summoner
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship
Worms

The slim PS2 also had problems running a few PS2 games:

ATV Offroad Fury
Big Mutha Truckers
Big Mutha Truckers 2
ESPN NBA 2K5 Sega
Everquest Online Adventures: Frontiers
F1 2001 Electronic Arts
F1 2002 Electronic Arts
Fight Night Round 2 Electronic Arts
Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm
Jak X: Combat Racing
Major League Baseball 2K5
SRS: Street Racing Syndicate
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005
Tomorrow Never Dies (007)
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan

Most likely, the PS3 uses the same PSX emulation as the slim PS2, and subsequently, cannot run the same games the slim PS2 could not.

The only thing I found on Speed Freaks compatibility is from the site below. Only one person rated the compatibility, but it apparently froze up for them too.

http://www.ps3comp.com/psone/Speed-Freaks-SCES-01763.asp

It doesn't appear that the official Playstation website for Europe has a compatibility list like the North American site does.

I can tell you from experience not all games compatible too. I have the 60 GB PS3 from when it first came out and there are some that I couldn't get to work.

You should return it or file a complaint OR give negative feedback. If you don't mind, could I have the sellers name?

I'l PM you it. I don't know why you want it though. I couldn't be assed returning it, it just costs me more money. It's not like it doesn't work both games freeze at the same place i think its a ps3 error. I will try it on my ps2 and see what happens. I gave the guy neutral feedback and rated most of the stuff 1 star. Only neutral cause i wasn't sure the reason it wasn't working was due to the disc or a problem on my end.

I wanted to see his rating and stuff. Good job giving him neutral feedback.
