So I finished this game a few days ago. I went through it and completed everything (besides getting the extra ranks and the Challenge Room in Bowser), and I wanted to see what everyone thought.
I personally thought it was really well done. The attack scheme and certain abilities that Mario and Luigi get are so old that it becomes boring in the beginning, but they solve that with the Special Attacks. I was really impressed with the way they integrated Bowsers Special Attacks with the touch screen (especially Broggy's. That thing is fucking scary).
Oh, and the Magic Door Special is like a little slice of nostalgia from way back from Partners In Time (think Copy Flower). It only made it better when I saw the Shroobs (nearly gave me a heart attack, though. Queen Shroob was a fucking nightmare).
Epic boss battle. Bowser was right, evil hurricane is the perfect back drop. And it seemed like a somewhat realistic battle, instead of being purely turn-based.. I'm not sure why.
Aaaaaand, Fawful is done for. FINALLY. I can only take so many 'Fink-Rat's, and 'I HAVE FURY!!!!'s.
Oh well. What did you guys think of it?

I JUST got it yesterday. I think I JUST got the hammer, actually. This is the first Mario & Luigi game that I've ever played for more than five minutes, and so far it's kinda cool. The control is a little awkward though. I understand why mario and luigi are different buttons, but sometimes while going through menus in battle it gets confusing (as I am used to pressing A for accept and B for cancel, like every other game ever). it also irks me that I have to press R to switch my A button from jumping to hammering. why can't X and Y be hammering for the bros, while A and be are reserved for jumping? it's not like you use X and Y at all.

I'm currently playing through Partners in Time and I love it, so I will definitely play Bowser's Inside Story as soon as I'm done with this one. You get used to the unusual control scheme FNJ eventually, so don't give up on it.
I think the X and Y thing is just a holdover to keep it consistent with Partners in Time where they were the buttons used for the babies.

Once Bowser "joins your party", you will use the X and Y buttons to control him and to flip back and forth between him and the Bros.

"Even my sneezes are powerful and awesome!"
I played the game and enjoyed it overall. The game was relatively easy as usual, but it makes it up with the gameplay, fun factor and hilarious script (Bowser gets the best lines in the game!).
In fact, the best parts are when you're in full control of Bowser.
While he may rank low in terms of brains, he makes it up with pure might and badassery. (He fights a giant mech with a gun that fires Black Holes... AND WINS!)
Plus, once you get Broggy's Special Attack, it becomes a bit of a game breaker, as it's Bowser's most powerful (and easiest to power up) attack. Also, BLITTIES!!!
And of course, the final battle is of epic proportions. Even the music goes from quirky and whimsical, to serious and dramatic (like in the other two games before, yes, but still...), which in turn is topped with a Crowing Moment of Heartwarming at the very end.
With that said...
BOWSER... PUNCH!!!

Yeah, his sig is. I saw it in theaters--I was quite impressed.
But anyway. You know the boss battle that took place in Bowser's memory banks (it's the Mario and Luigi impersonators)? I thought that was epic. Mostly because I had gotten the Pink Ball special move a little before hand, and I owned those suckers. -chuckles-

yeah I just learned that, but wouldn't it be easier to just have R be the universal button for switching?

It sure would, barring the fact that the bros. get more abilities besides jumping and hammering.

A great apology for the turd that was Partners in Time, and almost as good as Superstar Saga. I observe that the entire game feels like a tutorial. They're giving you new abilities that directly influence battle far past the halfway point (Hammers, Badges, Bros Moves, field commands, etc) but rarely give you enough time to get into a groove with the newest one before even throwing a newer one at you. That, combined with the low difficulty level makes the game feel like an extended tutorial, albeit an enjoyable one.

I'm finding that I can only play it in small chunks, because I get annoyed at the painfully slow pace. it seems like every ten steps that guy is telling me how to do something. I just want to figure things out on my own and continue with the story.

This multiplied by 1,000! That's the reason I had to stop playing and never finished. It seems like it would be a fun game, but I don't want my game to stop every couple minutes to have my hand held.

Not that I've played this particular game, but I hate hand holding of this nature in most modern games.

the story is silly & whimsical which makes it easy to enjoy. i do have to agree that the game is super easy and i also hate the fact it tells you how to do a new move every time.
