Does anyone else own this game or remember playing it? Seeing as how it is Christmas break I decided I would try to beat all of my unbeaten NES games. I beat SMB and Zelda first ( I hate to admit that I never beat either of those until now) and then today I pulled out Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight. This game confused me because I didn't know what it had to do with Street Fighter (apparently it was just some attempt by Capcom to make a platform shooter using Ken as the character) and it was really hard. I just beat it a minute ago and it was hella intense. Anyone else been through this torturous game? I had to continue like 5 times but nevertheless I am proud of myself.

yeah I was thinking about that as I played the game. It seems game designers in the late 1980's and early 1990's had a really pessimist view of the not too distant future. I mean 2010 was only about 20 years away from the year that game was released. Also games like Megaman and others that all predicted some sort of impending doom around the turn of the century. This game was really hard and it was funny seeing how absurd the "real" backstory of Ken was when Capcom needed to sell a platform shooter.

Well, the game wasn't originally about Ken. The Japanese version's main character was named Kevin Straker. When Capcom realized that they couldn't successfully port SF2 to the NES, they localized this game as Street Fighter 2010 to cash in on American's Street Fighter craze.
The game is fucking terrible. You know what wasn't, though? Mighty Final Fight. For two reasons: A) It was actually designed as a Final Fight game. B) It was damn fun. Maybe not the best beat 'em up ever, but certainly one of the top three beat 'em ups released for the NES.

I always wished Haggar would be a playable fighter in any of the Capcom Vs. fighters. He is so optimal for a game like that.

I could see Haggar making it into a Capcom vs. SNK game. But the Marvel vs. Capcom series is more about character diversity, and I don't see them taking Zangief out in favor of Haggar.

there is hardly any diveristy in marvel vs capcom.
What I REALLY wanna know is why tehy never put dante into one of these games. I would think Devil May Cry's gameplay would be a no brainer for an ever the top game like MVC or TVC.

Maybe not in terms of movesets, but certainly in terms of appearance. Look at MvC2. Sure, you have all the Shotoclones, but you also have Jill, Servbot, Rubyheart, Amingo, and all these these other weird fucking characters.
Dante would have been kickass in TVC, but then Capcom would have been compelled to release a DMC game for the Wii. I would be 100% okay with that, but apparenly they didn't want to put forth the effort.

I would have been excited about Dante in a VS game a few years ago, but now I could care less. The DMC franchise has grown stale and Bayonetta will be a huge nail in its coffin. Dante could have been a perfect fit for TvC, but the fact that Capcom decided to put fucking Frank West and (almost) Phoenix Wright instead is telling. I think the lack of a DMC game on Wii is irrelevant since they put the freaking robot from Lost Planet in there.
And to stay on topic, SF2010 sucked balls. I remember the first (and only) time I played it I thought it was one of those bullshit bootlegs.

Well, when Capcom reimagined Dead Rising for the Wii, one of the Capcom executives said that more games would follow if it was successful. Lost Planet was directly mentioned as one of those games. Will it happen though? Who knows? But it was a plan at one point.
Also, Phoenix Wright would have been fucking amazing.

I am nothing but happy about the inclusion of Frank West, (almost) Phoenix Wright, and "that fucking robot from Lost Planet." see, THAT'S diversity!
Mvc was pretty much just mostly Street Fighters and X-Men.

MVC? Yes. MVC2 was filled with crazy shit. It was still X-Men heavy though.

I love both Mighty Final Fight and Street Fighter 2010
Isn't Mighty Final Fight sort of rare? I came upon it through a friend of mine and I always see it on Ebay for around $40.

I have it on Capcom Classics Mini-Mix for the GBA, along with Bionic Commando and Strider, all untainted.

I mean Mvc in general, including all of the games. mvc2 was actually the worst offender.
on the capcom side we have:
* Akuma
* Amingo
* Anakaris
* B.B. Hood
* Cammy
* Captain Commando
* Charlie
* Chun-Li
* Dan
* Dhalsim
* Felicia
* Guile
* Hayato
* Jill Valentine
* Jin
* Ken
* M. Bison
* Mega Man
* Morrigan
* Roll
* Ruby Heart
* Ryu
* Sakura
* Servbot
* SonSon
* Strider Hiryu
* Tron Bonne
* Zangief
with twelve of the 28 being street fighters. that's almost half. we then have four darkstalkers and four megaman cahracters. that leaves eight uniquities, being strider, cap commando, jin, hayato, ruby heart, sonson, jill, and amingo.
we could have had radd spencer, dante, michelle heart, the unknown soldiers, arthur, phoenix wright, or any other number of unique and memorable capcom characters to replace some of those street fighters.

In MVC2's defense, it was partly tied down. It included everyone who had been in XMvSF, MSHvSF, and MvC. That's why it happens to be unnecessarily heavily on Street Fighters and X-Men. The new characters were all strong choices.

I can agree with this. I guess I just feel that they could have done more.
I really dig jill and hayato, but did they need to recycle guile? recycling more darkstalkers isn't too bad, considering morrigan was by herself before that, but I still feel those slots could have been used for more unique people. maybe having some more diverse street fighters, instead of just holdovers from alpha would have helped.
heck, if they didn't feel like spriting more, they could have headswapped ken and had an easy sean. they also could have easily taken sodom, rolento, guy or cody from alpha and put them in, at least to half ass a final fight presence.

I've been lurking here for the past few months, but I figure this 1up article about Street Fighter 2010 is worth a post:
http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9015070
This is almost as bad as actually playing SF 2010. Surprisingly, the people in the comments section tended to like the game.
Anyway, I got this game from a yard sale in a big bag filled with just about every NES game I had ever wanted. With all those other games, this one didn't get too much play time outside of the "Hey, it's Street Fighter" factor.
