So, I have been quite out of touch for some time now. I know that I was still new when I came aboard anyway, so few of you probably noticed. Still, I march on. The topic of this thread is that in less than a month, Final Fantasy VI will make its way to the Game Boy Advance. Now, I was going to buy this gem anyway despite owning it on SNES. The prospect of portable autocrossbow action from the Tools menu is still something to write about though, and I'm perfectly happy to be the one to do it. Especially since I believe there will be some added features along with an all new dungeon (unless I'm totally mistaken). So as anyone who has talked to me knows, I am totally gay for FF6, and I'm damn excited. And between 2 jobs and online classes, I plan to basically stop talking to all of my friends so that I can rekindle a little of that old fire. Who else is excited?

I'd love it if they added a New Game+ feature. Also your ultros avatar rules.

I, unfortunately, do not have the means to play the game as I have no game boys of any sort. This disappoints me in this situation especially as FFVI is my favorite Final Fantasy. UGH.

I'm going to go kill some hookers now.

One thing I learned is the Inviz + Doom/X-Zone combo has been nerfed. Making the fight with those 8 dragons a whole lot harder. Did anyone ever try to beat the game with just Edgar, Setzer, Celes and Terra?

Well, there goes getting my 10 magic points from fighting Intangirs in the World Of Balance, and those sandworm monsters in the World of Ruin at the desert near Miranda or somewhere.

I never really used that anyway. Of course, I always employed the strategy of, once getting the Falcon in the World of Ruin, leveling up those four characters as high as I'd like. After that, the characters that I regain from that point with be just somewhat lower than that. The level average is thrown of by Gau, who for some reason has his level established in the very beginning of WoR. I assume it's because he's floating around the Veldt, but it's still annoying. I have gotten those 4 characters up to 99 before, whereas everyone else after is about 89... except Gau who is around 20-ish because I don't use him very often.

Just fight brontosaurs like the rest of us.

I hope they removed the super cheap, toss a phoenix down on the phantom train technique. He wasn't that hard anyway.

Damn, I never thought of that, I just kept hurling Aura Bolts with Sabin

As for the Intangirs, I used Gau's Rhodox rage, waiting for the Ensnare special ability to trigger, thus killing the Intangir WITHOUT the Meteo counter attack. But this will also likely have the axe in Advance.

Yes, actually I have been looking forward to all of the tricks being screwed, because that game always feels new no matter how many times I play it. I have thrown down on the SNES quite a few times. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that it's the best FF game. A lot of people have talked about how awesome it would be to remake FF7, but I actually think that with the technology now, FF6 would blow all the latest FF incarnations out of the water. I haven't really played any FF heavily since 9, but still.
But on the topic of cheap tricks being axed, I always got the most excitement when I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to make it out alive...Plus I logged most of my hours on that game before it was so easy to find strategy guides and hints any time you wanted. I remember that I saved the old S.W.A.T.pro section of a GAMEpro issue pertaining to FF6 for a couple of years before I had to make room for more comics.
Ahhh, memories...

P.S. Yes, my avatar does rule.

It's not cheap, it's a standard RPG tactic. Healing magics have the opposite effect on undead creatures. In D&D you can cast "Heal" on even a DracoLich and reduce him down to nothing but 1d4 hitpoints. The trade off is that they use HARM and such as healing spells on themselves.

I think it is cool that Square accually put that in, to keep true with "Fantasy Phsyics"

The other trade off is that if you waste too many potions or too much of your White Mage's MP on killing undead creatures, you could find yourself in a bind when your guys are running low on health and you have a ways to go to get to the nearest inn or save point.

Actually, in DnD heal inflicts a max of 150 damage on undead. Which is good, but not a instantanious kill. Whatmore, a will save halves this, which just happens to be a good save for both dragons and undead. And you have to touch the dragon. Which is bad.

Compare to disintigrate, which can kill outright. It negated by an undeads worst save, fortitude. And disintigrate is a ray, so you don't have to get close.

That being said, in final fantasy heal spells inflict damage on undead. Its just cheap to take out a boss for about, what, 250 gil? And I thought it was a phantom train because it transported phantoms, not because it was the deceased spirit of a train that wrecked or such. How does that make sense?

If it was just a train, then why does it fight you?

There got to be something there if it is trying to kill you.

Guys, I'm going to go ahead and ask you to refrain from fucking with the train.
Maybe YOU like it when you're sleeping and all of a sudden Phantom Train busts through your asshole... But I don't.
Phantom Train is for real.
and it doesn't fuck around.
