A fascinating, if not heartbreaking, read.

I wonder if George Broussard and Axl Rose are related.

Page 4 is slightly NSFW.

I think at this point, someone (ie Broussard anonymously) should "leak" the DNF source code. That way the community could complete the game, and keep T2 vultures at bay. If 3DR can no longer reap the profits, then why should they let T2?

The difference being that Axl didn't delay Chinese Democracy to bow to current music trends or so that he could record it on the most state of the art technology. The other difference being that great music is timeless, whereas the prettiest game in the world is only the prettiest game in the world for so long.

The sad thing is that the new portable Duke Nukem games will be out in a short while.

This article in itself is a guide on how NOT to fuck up a good thing, let alone how important is to have an actual goal in mind instead of railing off every time a new fad comes out.

Seriously, how many projects have been ruined because your pointy haired boss wants to have the latest trend in whatever?

Damn, I've handled webpage designs that took FOREVER to finish because said PHB wants every freakin thing he keeps seeing on the internet...

Tragic and seemingly absurd that he would scratch the game like that so many times, however I can relate to his plight somewhat. If you have a vision for a creation and have full control of it like he did, I can see wanting to use the latest and greatest because it allows you to better actualize your vision. Oh well, Duke was fun and all, but a bit too campy for my teenage years. I was more of a doom/quake guy myself.

Dances with Wolves 2 is gonna ROCK!

Now, if you really want to salvage this into awesome. Then someone needs to get thier hands on EVERY build of the DNF project. Then write in a time traveling plot line, so as Duke travels through time, the game changes to reflect the time period. So you start off with something that looks and plays like DN3D, and finish with something that looks and plays like Crysis, using every build of DNF as you play through it.

Only Dr. Pepper could have saved Duke.

That's actually a moderately neat-o idea. Cool

Maybe? Was that on the N64? I played I think two different Duke games on the N64. Is that right? You'd think I'd remember better since the N64 only had like ten games, but I don't.

Duke Nukem 64 was a slightly censored version of Duke Nukem 3D. Also, the Devastators are replaced by a rocket launcher

The one I played was called Zero Hour. I did a little bit of Duke 64 multiplayer, but I don't remember a lot about it.

Zero Hour follows Duke time traveling. Manhattan Project is a sidescroller in the vein of the original Duke Nukem.

Syd, you did play the original computer version, and not just the bastardized N64 ones, right? Right?!

I played Duke 3D, and the Washington D.C. expansion, if that's what you mean.

I have not played the original sidescrollers in any real sense, Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2. I downloaded them once, but I didn't enjoy them as much as Commander Keen and deleted them within 5 minutes.

Its been said, but Knyte's idea is the total shit.

Reading the whole history like that makes me kinda sad. Poor, foolish guy. Double shame he dragged so many people down with him. At least it wasn't greed that destroyed this, it was the drive to make and be the absolute best. I can respect that, even if it was super destructive in this case.

Sure does show the danger of perfectionism, though. Confused
