Good news first: if this is right, it appears Sir Ian will be playing Gandalf again in the Hobbit movie.

The seriously bad news: TOBY MCGUIRE AS BILBO??? WHAT. THE. FUCK.

This is wrong, right? This has to be wrong. No decent and loving God would allow that to happen. Right?

What, Elijah Wood didn't look enough like Tobey McGuire so they actually got Tobey McGuire this time?

Yeah, this just doesn't surprise me at all. Nor do I give a shit. I watched the trilogy once and that was enough. I'll probably watch this with my kid when he graduates college, while getting drunk.

Yeah, I especially found the movies quite boring. It's not like I wasn't a fan of the books or anything, but the movies did nothing that my imagination couldn't. I think the acting was good, the graphics were good, but to consider them some of the best movies of all time? No chance, in my opinion.

Yeah they were fun in theaters but I haven't really had the urge to watch them ever again, even though they're sitting on my dvd shelf right now. Confused

The movies bent some of the characters over a table and raped them raw. Theres a difference between thinning a character out due to time constraints and what they did to Faramir.

Ouch, so much hate for some of my favorite movies. Confused (And yes, I love the books, too.)

Oh well. Best news is that this rumor is dead. Time for a sigh of relief.

Don't worry SH, they are on my list of favorites as well. The expectation that films of this scope can encompass the entirety of the books is unrealistic but I feel it does it justice and then some. I am glad that we finally got a epic fantasy movie series for adults instead of the tween crap they are pushing out now. Are they perfect adaptations? No Is it the best translation to film we will likely ever see again? Yes.

I loved the movies, but I saw them without ever reading the books.

I've since attempted to read the books, but it's a lost cause. I can't read them without picturing the movies the whole time. I intend to read the Hobbit before seeing the movie, this time.

I've read all of the books, but I only saw the first movie. It was a bit of a drag.

Char, I know exactly how you feel. But if you can understand what's actually happening, unlike some idiots who thought they could watch the sixth (lemme say it again. SIXTH) movie without even touching the book and still understand it. I'm pretty sure there's a reason people say the book is better. It's that or my entire life up to this point is a lie (and it's the same with the Twilight series. The books are acceptable. I even like them, to a point. But the movies can suck my dick and kiss my ass. AT THE SAME TIME).

uhm, wouldn't the LOTR movies be considered adaptions of the books, and not supplementary material? I would think that you're supposed to be able to understand the films without prior knowledge of the books.

EDIT - oh, we're talking about harry potter, not LOTR. my bad.

Tobey IS going to be Bilbo! I don't know if I should be happy or throw up. I liked him in Spiderman and all but...The Hobbit?
