Suprised!?
In 1988, Namco brought us one gruesome "beat em' up", starring Rick, one weirdly dressed dude, Jennifer, an common demsel-in-distress and one evil, evil, evil, evil, evil mask... Lost in the woods during a storm, Rick & Jennifer decide to take shelter in the abandoned West Mansion. And then Rick's life gets seriously fucked up. Jennifer gets 'dragged in to a hell' by monsters that have inhabbited the mansion and Rick gets his ass kicked fucking badly(or possibly even killed). Then a certain idol of evil(the mask) suggests Rick to wear itself in order to get enough strenght to save the girl. Rick agrees, mask gets on, and one bloody hackfest (that no janitor would want to clean up) will start. Unfortunately, I don't have any screenshots to show about this game(since MAME is such a bitch), but I can tell that there is lot of awesome shit in the game. Like you can chop enemies' heads off with a butcher-knife or slam them on to the wall on the background into a bloody mess. Few badass(and hard) bosses and all-sorts of creepy shit to create an scary athmosphere(like a room filled with corpses and big flesh-eating lice jumping out from them!) Pretty cool, huh? It also has two sequels (both exclusive on Genesis) and Chibi/SD-parody(on Famicom). And yes, it's DEFINETLY worth of trying them all!

Splatterhouse was an awesome series to play. I've only been able to track down the two sequels though.

The site Kojiro links to covers the whole series. |
Well, fuck! Splatterhouse dosen't seem so much mystery to gamers anymore! Sweet!
Altrough I'd be intrested to know is there any peapole like me who have really played it in arcade or someplace else(played on a arcade cabinet anyways!)
Also, the first one isn't really that great, so thoughs about Splatterhouse 2, 3 & SD/Wanpaku Graffitti would be ridiciliously sweet!

Splatterhouse should be brought back. I'm sure in the shift to 3-d the game'll get some modern additions. It'll be sandbox style, allowing you to become a honest to goodness slasher, allowing for faux freedom until to actually want to progress the story. The incredibly complex mash the button over and over combo system will allow you rack up such high numbers that the lone punches you do throw will be all but worthless. Badly implemented RPG system, where you upgrade your nebulous and mechanical stats to inflict higher numbers and some shit.
Ohh, thats a bit of a rant there. I think the signature gory brawler should come back, in a big way. I once again desire to punch and shotgun in a modern set horror.

Id' be cool. But it just be overshadowed by Resident Evils and/or some new God of War game
Guess 'have to wait for some Namco collection or something like that.

there needs to be a new splatterhouse.
it should play something like dead rising.
simple, not too complicated. nothing like what they did to final fight streetwise, which was an amusing game, but was NOT final fight.
