Today, I finally got my Wii today. The story goes like this:
Sometime early last week, greeneyedzeke IMed and told me that Best Buy, Target, and Circuit City were all sitting on Wiis because they were putting them in their Sunday flyers. I didn't ask him where he had heard this, but GEZ has never led me astray before so I took it on good faith that he was right.
This information turned out to be a partial blessing. The bad news was that I knew I had to work Sunday morning (i.e. today) at 7 AM. The good news was there's a Target right next to where I work. I figured that as long as not too many people caught on to the fact that were Wiis available too earlier then I'd be able to run over to Target and grab one when they opened at 8...
Flash forward to today. I checked the Sunday ads before going to work and sure enough, Target was advertising Wiis. I was psyched, up until that moment when I got to work. There were already 10 people waiting outside Target at 7 AM. I had no idea how many Wiis my local Target had, but I was pretty sure it wasn't much more then 10. At this point, I started to freak out. I needed someone to get in line for me, so I called the one person who has no business turning me down for a favor: Jeebus. Jeebus has certain financial obligations to me, obligations that should make him feel guilty enough to help me out in a situation like this. Unfortunately, they don't. I began frantically texting him, telling him to get up and get in line, but his lazy ass was having none of it. The reply I finally got back from him essentially told me to fuck off. I was very pissed and very disappointed. It seemed I would not have a Wii after all.
I spent the next 45 minutes thinking of ways to exact my revenge against Jeebus for screwing me out a Wii and by extension, his seemingly total lack of appreciation for the line of credit I had extended him. At around 8:15, my anger had boiled over to a completely unhealthy level. If I had gotten any angrier, I am pretty sure my head would have exploded. I about to place a call to my goons, Knuckles and Mugsy, telling them to break his goddam legs... but then I stopped.
I suddenly thought back to the Rocky movies and realized my defeatist attitude was getting me nowhere. Rather just assuming Target had sold out of Wiis, I decided to go in and see for myself. I dashed over to Target at 8:20, expecting the worst. The store was eerily calm. Employees were just standing around, as there were no customers there. At this point, I was pretty sure that the Wii rush had ended and I was far too late. But I was already in the store, so I had to see for myself. I dashed down to the electronics section and I saw an employee handing a Wii to a customer. I then glanced to Wii section of the Video Game case and I gazed in glory upon the most beautiful site I have ever seen: 8 Wiis.
A second employee at the Electronics counter asked me if she could help me with anything, and I asked for a Wii.
"Sure," she said, "would you like any games with that?"
I was about to get a fucking Wii! Originally, my plan had been to just get a Wii and get out, but I realized the clerk's suggestion was a good one; I needed something more than just Wii Sports to tide my gaming hunger. Initially I was just going to get the Metal Slug Anthology, but at the last second I grabbed Zelda too.
As I chatted with the clerk, I learned that Target had gotten in THIRTY Wiis that morning and I had bought the 22nd one. I later found out that the remaining 8 sold by 9 o'clock; one of them sold while I was leaving.
So now I have a Wii. Unfortunately I worked 9 hours today and I was too tired to set it up. Whether or not I'll let Jeebus play it remains to be seen... but I probably will. I'm cool like that.

Awesome... At least beat the shit out of Jeebus a little bit, or rape him a little bit, you know, show him who's boss.

Wow. If it were me, I'd jump at the chance to help get a Wii in my house.

You shouldn't let Jeebus play for a week or so to punish him. Or end his credit line and start collecting. Either way.

In addition to sending Knuckles after him, you should also send Vector and Mighty.
But, in all seriousness, don't get Red Steel. I'm selling my copy. The game's a piece of shit. I should've bought Metal Slug Anthology when I had the chance.

I also finally managed to get a Wii today. After checking out the Wii-seeker site for my area (20+ Wiis), and looking at the Circuit City flyer in the paper, I was determined to go for it. The Circuit City in my area opens at 10, so I got there between 8:30-8:40, and I'm about 9th or 10th in line, standing with others shooting the bull and whatnot. Few people kept joining in the line as time went on. About an hour later, an employee tells us that there are 30 Wiis, so everybody in luck was in luck. About 9:45, we finally get our vouchers, and then head to our cars so we can warm up from the 20 degree weather. I basically went in and got a Wii, along with Metal Slug Anthology.
By the way, Wii Sports is awesome.

The only Wii game I've played that sucks is (sigh) Red Steel. Seriously, I had more fun with my brother's copy of Madden for Wii, and I hate Madden games.
And Syd better post his friend code.

I like the Nintendo Wii Wii, it's a real Pisser™ of a good time. How's Metal Slug, Syd? Does it have 5 and 6?

It does.
For completion purposes it also has both Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X, though only X is really necessary.

Are you playing it with the classic controller or the sideways Wii remote?

When you call trying to wake me up at 8 AM knowing that I was expecting people at the house at 9 AM for a long, long day (ESPECIALLY since we had already discussed this the day before so you knew I wasn't going to be at Target to get one) I really don't know what the Hell you want. I assure you, I appreciate this line of credit you speak of, but you don't even almost appreciate the shit I do. I know it's easy to make yourself seem like the good guy when you can post this 8 or 9 hours before I'll be here, but I'd strongly advice you be more rational in the future because the last thing you want is to deal with me pissed off at you.
Of course, I suppose in the future I COULD just wake up early on a day when I was already only planning on getting 5 hours of sleep so I can drive to the store RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE YOU ALREADY ARE and possibly make our friends wait at the house with neither of us there. That makes much more sense than you taking your break earlier than you normally would to go get it yourself. It would also naturally be faster for me to get up, shower, and drive there (after you take the time to text me several times of course), than for you to just walk next door. But you're right, I'm an asshole. Shine your shoes, sir?

The issue was that there was ALREADY A LINE at 7, and that I was deathly afraid that it would be too late to get a Wii by the time I got over there. And for you to say that you didn't have time is complete nonsense, as you weren't even planning on getting up until 8:30.
And for the record, I'm not calling you an asshole. If I was pissed at you, you would have known it long before you read the goddam forums. I'm simply relating the story as it happened. When I didn't think I was going to get a Wii, I got ridiculously angry, possibly irrationally so.
But at the same time, I find your general indifference to the situation appalling. I'm begin to wonder if you fully comprehend the awesomeness that is Wii. Do you?

Dude, I understand your fantacism in wanting a Wii, it's all you've talked about for friggin' months, but we really had yesterday planned like at least two weeks ahead of time and you were right next door whereas Jeebus, as he said, would have had to hoof it over there, wait in line, fight his way through the crowd for one, wait in line to checkout and then have to drive back again where we would already have been waiting in the 20 degree weather....

If it's any consolation, I've played the Wii, like, a million times already and it never gets old.
Wait, that didn't help. Oh well.
