This was announced a bit ago bit I didn't see any topics on it. Looks like the next Sonic game is going to be a 2D one. What do you all think about that? Personally, I'm a bit torn. I love Sonic 2D games and I love 2D games, so I'm sure it will be fun, but I really though Sonic Unleashed was a step in the right direction for 3D Sonic games. It wasn't perfect, but I still found it fun as hell and would have loved to have a seen another sequel or two with that same engine. Regardless, I'm still pretty excited for this new Sonic game, or at least to see some actual game play footage.

Ever play sonic rush on the ds? it was a 2d game in the old style with some nifty innovations. it also had 3d models instead of sprites for your character, and the boss battles had this psuedo 3d thing going on that was really fun.

I've commented on this numerous times on other web sites, if it's going to be modeled after the original Sonic on Genesis, then it isn't going to be anything special and it runs a risk of being crap. It should be modeled after Sonic 2 or 3, if it has any hope of being considered that great of a game.

Yahtzee from ZP made a good point when he criticized the Tales from Monkey Island, when he said the game suffered from having developers who loved the series too much. As a consequence, they didn't really do anything new or interesting, and they just felt like stale rehashes of past games. If Sonic wants to succeed, it needs people who hate things about Sonic games, whether they're 2D or 3D so they can fix anything holding the series back.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

While the control mechaincs and style of Sonic Rush were great, I never really cared for the level design.

It just doesn't seem to have the same flow as the genesis levels, also they look very bland.

The music also sucks, I hope this new Sonic is great.

The level design for Sonic always irked me, you get a fast as shit character and the level constantly throws pits and enemies and traps in the way to break your dizzying flow. Although I guess it would be a lot less fun if it was just you running around unhindered by obstacles... Confused

Sonic Rush was great, but it would have been better if there had been different levels for Sonic and Blaze. I tried alternating between the two, and it kind of ruined the game for me, since you play the exact same levels with Blaze, but in a different order.

And Project Needle Mouse? More like Project NEEDLE DICK! amirite?

Sonic Rush was as boring and generic as the Sonic Advance games.

Probably like every other Sonic platformer since Adventure, Sega will most likely take a game that would be spectacular and make it terrible by placing some sort of gameplay addition that no one wants in it.

Was there anything wrong with continuing to make 2D platformers ala Sonic 2-3? I mean, you still could have done it and added cutscenes if you felt the story needed them so badly? No one even plays Sonic for the fucking storyline.

How can kids today even like Sonic? I bet you a good percentage don't even know who he is.

I can't imagine Sonic really appealing to kids of this generation, I mean he doesn't have the same "edge" he seemed to have in the early 90's.

These damn kids are too desensitized.

They gave shadow the hedgehog guns. The issue is not edge it's quality.

Strangely, my friends son as well as my ex-girlfriends nephew LOVE Sonic and Mario... they like the new games, but when they come over to my house, they will play the oldschool games for hours. My friend and I are going to get his son a genesis with all the sonic games for Christmas.

I agree on the levels, or if they at least had different paths like sonic and knuckles.

That is the greatest Christmas gift ever. What games are you getting him? Just Sonic 1,2,3 & Knuckles? Or are you going to throw in 3-D Blast and Spinball too?

He's supposed to be faster and stronger than Sonic. And yet, in his single effort as protagonist, he uses a gun and, at times, a motorcycle instead of his natural strength and speed.

Laziness = emo.
