Not owning an XBOX, but in it's defense, let's say you are playing a racing game where you do indeed have to steer with your hands in the air. Honestly there is nothing stopping you from grabbing your Wii Wheel, a book or whatever to replace that tactile experience of holding a controller. The same goes for using a sword, tennis racket or whatever the hell you want to use. I for one am quite excited about Sony's Wand that they are currently testing.
It looks very responsive and intuitive, it tracks it so well.

And, what's the point with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo putting so much time and effort into head tracking?
Stuff like this:
Wow, the system reacts to where you move your head. But if I turn my head to the right I am no longer looking at the TV, but looking to the right. So, if the system changes the image based on where I turn my head, what's the point if I can't see it?
Now if they could perfect those little TV screens that sit in front of your eyes, and are mounted to glasses, then that would be something else.

Some things never go out of style, and don't need to be replaced. Regular videogame controllers are one of those things in my mind.

Yeah, all of this just smacks of input experimentation and is nothing new really from all the weird ideas they tried in the 90s like the Sega Activator. Also, I make it a point to not really buy any videos of tech demos at face value because it can so easily be manipulated/edited to look better than it is. It's hard to believe we suddenly are capable of the flawless technology that Natal is boasting.

Microsoft's entrance into the motion-based market to apparently "Out Wii the Wii" is mindboggling. True, Nintendo has found financial success with the Wii, but Microsoft is in a difficult spot. They've spent years bashing the Wii's controls, and now they're enterting a market filled with 360 owners who A) already have Wiis or B) simply aren't interested in that sort of gameplay. Who exactly are they hoping will buy this? Are they hoping it will sell the console?
I think it's just a way to extend the consoles life.

I think it's just a case of trying to fix something that's not broke. I never once heard anybody yearn for the days when we would finally be free from the tyrany of using our thumbs to hit buttons.

Yeah, it seems like an insane grab at a perceived market that isn't really there. It'd have been best if Microsoft could somehow work it into their next gen console, but they must feel like that's too far off.
