Some life imitates over-the-top satire.
While driving home from work this morning, I heard an interesting topic of conversation. Apparently, parents are turning to a brand new expert in the ever-changing field of child rearing: Cesar Millan.
That's right, parents are going the Mrs. Cartman route and calling in the Dog Whisperer to help them deal with their kids.
Thoughts? I find it bizarre that life imitates South Park for once and not the other way around.

It's about time parents did SOMETHING to discipline their children, even if all they're doing is asserting their dominance, and not slapping the kid upside the head like they fucking deserve.

This scene sums up the episode in less than a minute.
This was one of my favorite episodes to date.

Whenever I use to see parents have their kids in those I would laugh, but now I just want to walk up to them and say "At what point do you consider them your child?".

Like dr. J said, at least parents are doing anything to stop these bad kids.

Disciplining kids is so 1900. My dad had the best approach to raising kids: let them do whatever the fuck they want, but make them deal with the consequences themselves.
He took me drinking when I was thirteen and I was constantly trying to get him to buy me a beer. He brought me into a bar and said I could have whatever I want, but I deal with the consequences without his help. He ended up spending around seventy bucks on me that evening and the next morning taught me that I should stay the fuck away from things that aren't meant for kids.

They need more videogames, damnit. It might sound counterintuitive, but I was in a shared custody situation as a child, and every other weekend when I would go to my grandparents where my floozy drunk of a mother was ostensibly supposed to be? I'd get my homework done and park my ass in front of the Nintendo and later the SNES. When I got bored or frustrated with it, I'd go run around the neighborhood. Never made a friggin' peep as far as annoying the grandparents went. Of course, they were also smart to ply me with RPGs and my beloved Kickle Cubicle.

aeonic, do you really think that more video games is a solution? In general kids need parents who can be there for them both physically and emotionally. They don't need Samus and Mario to care for them when they have a bad day at school or hurt themselves on the playground during recess. Instead they need a parent who can try and relate to them so that they understand that there emotions are human. That same parent can teach their child that those emotions don't need to be vented through temper tantrums.

Again, Fontaine, I was being a bit facile (it's a character flaw), although frankly, that's an approach that worked for me. I saw video games as a reward, and thus, I behaved, or else the video games got taken away. The more I bitched or acted like a moron, the longer they were gone, and if I did the same thing again, they'd be gone even longer. So I learned to not act like a little fucktard and I got what I wanted, and my parents would explain why, or at least as much as they could without inadvertently giving me information that would allow me to do worse things.
I think Nekkoru's post is the closest to really making sense, at least as far as I've witnessed with today's parents. Somehow none of them learned anything from their own parents, and so a philosphy like that might bear some fruit. Personally, I'm not planning on breeding, and neither is my wife, so worrying about how children are raised really isn't my bag. I can say a few things, though. My father was a disabled harness horse racer, and his method of handling the situation was yelling and/or brandishing a horsewhip. So you learned really fast not to act like a fucking idiot or you knew that whip was going to catch you in the ass. Two, I grew up dirt poor, so a sense of entitlement was something that got purged out of my system but quick. I didn't throw temper tantrums over shit I wanted because I knew we were too poor to buy it, and that cut out fifty percent of the problems right there. Ultimately, I think a little bit of corporal punishment and a lot of clear boundary lines are the best way to go.

...I don't know if that really can work, but if it means less children acting like assholes and screaming all the time I'm all for it.

^ I guess I can agree with that but I still think its ridiculous to ask for help from a guy that works with dogs.

parents nowadays don't like spanking, for some reason. It worked on me, so idk why people stopped.
And I don't mean abuse. A simple spanking just to keep you in line.

Yeah, I got spanked on the ass all the time for doing wrong shit. And you know what happened because of those spankings? I stopped doing wrong shit.
I see nothing wrong with it, unless it comes to parents smacking their kid in the face or outright beating them. Getting spanked on the ass is ageless and this new age hippie bullshit of letting your kids do whatever they want is not working. Every generation gets weaker and dumber and it's really fucking embarrassing.

As good as an arguement as that is Josh, that pretty much sums up the resault and not the cause.
I feel that the cause for parents not spanking their kids is because of a fear of child services.
