Having downloaded this game three days ago and beaten it for real over three and a half hours ago, I can now adequately confirm that not only should it have made the SNES list, it should have outranked the first game. The game borrows a good amount from such classics as Bionic Commando and Contra III: The Alien Wars quite well while also throwing in some original twists, all to a stellar soundtrack that compliments the badass action. I'd have personally put it at #63, where Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition is. Now that's a game I wouldn't have minded Journey To Silius losing to.

Well, we couldn't very well include both when must people haven't heard of either. ST2 might have been the better choice though.
Fun Fact: Factor 5 has tried to resurrect Turrican multiple times and failed. Turrican 3D was to be released on the N64, but publisher THQ halted development. Then work began on Thornado, which was a reworked version of Turrican 3D that didn't use the Turrican name due to legal issues with THQ. It started as an N64 project, moved to the GCN, then got cancelled. As recently as April 2007, Factor 5 announced their intent to make a new Turrican game, but that project seems to have died too.

I used to have Super Turrican on the Sega Genesis, and while it was fun for a while, the fun soon died down when I first got attacked by an enemy and realised that the game has literally no hit detection. At all.

The Genesis one was called Mega Turrican, and it sucked.

There's a second Turrican? I really enjoyed the first game. Is it incredibly rare or something?

Yeah, I'd rather shell out the cash. I guess that makes me a bad person or something...

personally I feel that emulating older games is A-OK. I could understand it nintendo or someone was still selling them new and you were cutting into their profits by emulating, but really you're just cutting into the profits of some guy who had an old copy lying around.
I think everyone should be able to experience games if they're great, so emulation is the way to go to at least play the game. if you really dig the game, you could always buy it too. It's always better to have a hard copy of something, especially SNES games, but that shouldn't mean you have to miss out on a game that you can't find to buy, right?

Found it on Ebay for $30 - average
I'll keep an eye out for it. I've got a vast collection of games that I've paid hardly anything for. My entire NES collection of 200 games, I paid well under $1,000 and I've got a lot of rare games in there. People might like emulators, but something about having the game in hand...I can't describe it.

That's not necessary becuase it's on the VC, which is what I meant by "downloaded".

I don't even like VC, unless they gave us games that we never had before like Mother, THEN I'll actually download games. The only game I ever downloaded on VC was the later version of Punchout with Mr. Dream, since I already owned the Mike Tyson version and there was no reason to have 2 games.

I understand that it can be hard at times. I was on a very fixed income last year and was still able to fill a lot of the empty holes in my collection. I almost never spent more than $20 on a game (which I wouldn't even buy unless it was in near mint condition) and still managed to live pretty good overall. Let's just say I was very fortunate to have a few people who helped me out with finding the games at good prices. As of right now with no income, my game buying habits are almost non-existant. While I would usually find a different game each week last year, I go months without buying games now, but I'm only missing about 30 decent games in my NES collection.

I too enjoyed the Genesis version of Turrican, until like Cam I noticed it's flaws. I'll have to check out the Nintendo version I suppose.
Fucking spell check, just imagine a Genesis game called Mega Lubricant.
