For those of you who live in warm climates, you probably don't need slippers. Here in New England we get a mix of weather and generally the fall, winter, and spring months are slipper worthy.

I suppose that you could choose to keep your home temperature above 70 degrees or install wall to wall carpeting to counter the need for slippers, but for those with tile, hardwood, or concrete you know damn well that socks alone just don't cut it.

Slippers are also great for when you need to run to the mailbox or pick up the paper outside. They complement flannel pants perfectly and say "I'm on my fucking day off, so don't expect much from me right now."

There are however a few problems with slippers. They tend to get stinky quite quickly. For those who wear them without socks, the world is victimized every time you take them off. Some baking soda helps that out though. Another problem with slippers is that they tend to wear out quickly.

So, what is all of this slipper talk anyways? Well, mine are stinky and worn. I need a new pair. But what to buy? Does anyone have any suggestions? I haven't really found a pair or type that I am in love with, but I know I need some. Also my wife needs a pair and she has been stealing mine. This is making her feet smell like mine... not appealing at all.

My current pair is these:

I don't own a single pair of slippers. I live in Poland and it's cold as all hell over here most of the year, and I go around the house barefoot. It's comfortable.

I tend to prefer wearing my slippers WITH socks, due to the foot-sweat/stench issue. I prefer the type of slippers with a woolen/cottony inside, as that other stuff (not sure what it is.....kind of polyester-like) tends to increase the sweatiness.

I also prefer my slippers with a rubberize sole, so when you go outside with them it doesn't absorb any moisture/dirt.

On a similar subject, I've been thinking about getting a robe. I've always been a shorts and t-shirt around the house guy, but lately the idea of getting a robe sounds kind of nice. It wouldn't create any excess laundry, and the things look mighty comfortable. Plus it'll come in handy when I'm pretending to be a mage (preferably a Black Mage)

Just remembered this: my grandma used to knit woolen slippers. Kind of like woolen socks, except way thicker - maybe these'll work out for you.

Ha, my great-grandmother did the same thing, and they were quite nice. However, my dogs found them to be an irresistable target, so they quickly become dog-toys instead of slippers.

I have not worn slippers in years. I wear my socks to bed though, and leave them on until I shower.

Slippers are bliss. I dunno what I would do without them, really. Probably be cold.

I just put socks on when my feet get cold, that usually does the trick. I think a pair of slippers would be nice though, as well as a robe. It get's pretty cold here.

What I have learned so far:

* Slippers can be hand crafted
* No socks in showers
* Rubber on bottom is good
* Polyester makes feet sweat
* Dogs eat slippers

So far, so good. I wonder if they make slippers that breath. I would totally go for something like that. I have a pair of Geox shoes and love them.

I haven't worn slippers in years either, not a huge concern when you live in the southern part of AZ, but even when I lived in PA I had trouble finding ones that felt good because I wear size 15 shoes. I did, however, buy a pair recently with my wife to give to her grandfather at Christmas time, and I'll be fucked if they don't look like some comfortable ass slippers.

Slippers rule...I am rocking a pair with rubber on the bottom which is clutch when you need to run outside or to the basement, etc., faux fur interior which is also pretty sweet...but I do have to wear socks or my feet will sweat like hell.

Every time I do that I end up kicking them off in my sleep, and I have to tear the bed apart to find them, lest they stay there and slowly cause my sheets to smell like socks.

My wife instituted a no socks or pants rule in the bed. I used to just shower and then change into my work clothes before I was married, that way the next morning I could just wake up, make a bagel and head to work. It's better this way, though. Not as wrinkled when I get into the office.

I thought you were going to talk about flip flops because we call them slippers here in Hawaii.

How comfortable are these?

What, flip flops? I live in AZ so when summertime comes and I'm not actually directly exposed to the sun, they're fantastic. Last thing I need are strappy burn marks on the tops of my feet, though.

I say this like I go outside frequently. I'm two steps away from being a shut-in.

I hate when my GF wears flannel pants to bed. Makes certain things less convenient.

Haha, no the slippers that they are talking about in this thread. I live in Hawaii so I wear flip flops everytime I go out.

My father's last house's temperature often dropped to 60 degrees overnight in winter, so the floor was FUCKING COLD. Slippers were a necessity.

Personnally I have dog slippers.

I used to have monster paw slippers that were pretty cool. Now I just have generic old man slippers. So GPF, I recommend buying for what you need. If you fetch your morning paper or mail in them, get something rubber-bottomed and durable. If it's just around the house, get big fluffy novelty slippers.

Hearing that Usa has bunny slippers is probably the least surprising thing I have heard in a while. More power to you, you Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha.

I have large fluffy gorilla slippers, but hardly ever wear them. They're too comfortable and they just fuck with your equilibrium when you wear them.

I wear them too often to get a pair of novelty slippers, though that would be fun.
