Moving onward.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The title pretty much describes it...they're teenagers, ninja, and mutant turtles, who live in the sewers of New York, face off against the Shredder and his minions, and love pizza. This is the 1980s cartoon, the 2000s one is pretty different.

SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron - Two junkyard operators build a bitchin' jet and use it in defense of Megacat City against various villains, which for some reason really pisses off the local law enforcement.

Digimon - I honestly have no idea, so let's go to the IRC room for the description: <Fernin> Team of kids and their digital pets save a digital world from evil digital people who want to take over the digital world. Digital. That works.

Pinky and the Brain - One where the theme song says it all. Two lab mice, one a genius, one insane, plot every night to...try and take over the world!.

I love Pinky and the Brain, but TMNT dominated my youth.

Since I KNOW TMNT is gonna win this, I'll put in the starting vote for Pinky and the Brain. I was huge in to Digimon back then too, but if only 2 shows are gonna advance, that can't be one of 'em.

Pinky and the Brain for me. Couldn't miss any episode while it aired. Unfortunately, they fucked up the dub after a while.

I took TMNT, even though when I check out episodes or clips of it now it hasn't held up all that well, which is kind of sad. Sad

I voted Digimon

I really liked TMNT as a kid, and Pinky and the Brain was better served under Animaniacs.

But Digimon Season 1, Holy crap...was that awesome. One of the only anime shows I ever really got into and it was all about growing within yourself to help your Digimon grow. The show wasn't always upbeat or end in a happy ending, but it was always important to believe in team work and all that nonsense, it was great.

Also, fuck you for getting that theme song stuck in my head.

I love Pinky and the Brain and SWAT Cats, but no way can either of them beat TMNT.

Such a shame so many great shows are up against each other so early, sigh. Oh well--I suppose TMNT would be advancing over them at some point anyway (barring an upset of course.)

Easy one for me considering I was one of the biggest TMNT fans when I was a kid and never missed the show.

These -are- the 64 best shows of all time, as voted and nominated by you, the viewers. Plus I think Lexy had a fucking mean streak with some of these groupings.

Man, Hanna Barbera is getting no fucking love at all in this, are they?

In all honesty, they're a cheap thrill but nothing special or innovative, outside of shoddy animation.

Oh I know. I didn't mean it as a criticism, just an observation.

Screw Hanna Barbera, bunch of hacks. Fucking Magilla Gorilla and Grape Ape can kiss my childhood's ass. Thank God for the Ninja Turtles man.

Pinky and the Brain, because it has the best Christmas episode for a tv series ever.

Heroes in a half-shell...turtlepower!

Nothing came close while growing up.
I think the movie was one of the first I ever went see in the theater.
I remember a friend went as Raphael for Halloween when I was three or four and that was the point I should of realized those kind of costume look like crap...two Power Ranger costumes later...

Anywho, Pinky and the Brain were good, but I just stick them under Animaniacs.

That's just totally incorrect. They did pioneer limited animation, yes, but they also fucking defined the saturday morning cartoon. If it weren't for them, cartoons would've pretty much stayed as pre-movie fodder for many years to come. You can argue about wether or not the cartoons (Not the animation though, that sucked) were good, but when they did so ridiculously much for what the cartoon is today, to say they did nothing special or innovate is not only stupid, but also flat-out wrong.

Oh please, that's like saying Sid and Marty Croft pioneered 70s television with their poor excuses of psychodelic acid trips.

I'm sure TV executives would have figured out eventually that Saturday mornings were the best time to show cartoons aimed at children without the genius of Hanna Barbera. Not only that, but it was those execs who syndicated and put those cartoons on on Saturday mornings, not HB seeing as how HB never owned a television station. And then it was only a matter of time before people figured out that weekday afternoons were much more profitable, which essentially put HB and it's shlocky cartoons out of independent business.

HB were only successful because they were the only game in town for a number of years. TV studios wanted cartoons on Saturday mornings, so HB syndicated their cartoons to all three major networks which happened to be the only three channels really until the 80s. Not only that, but there were other studios trying to compete, but because HB was already so huge and already on all three networks, they were easily crushed. It's easy to be thought of as pioneering geniuses when you have a monopoly disallowing anyone else from rising and literally forcing kids to watch your sub-par product.

As soon as cable hit, and there were more channels showing better cartoons like He-Man and Thundercats, and with the realization of weekday afternoons being a better time slot, HB suddenly went away and were gobbled up by bigger companies like Turner because they continued making Saturday morning junk that nobody wanted to watch.

And don't forget prime-time cartoons as well.

I'm ending this poll with TMNT winning and Pinky and the Brain taking second easily.
Feel free to continue discussing the topic at hand if you wish, but one thing I can clearly say about Hanna Barbara: It's getting it's ass kicked in this contest.

...You know there's more to a "Saturday Morning Cartoon" than a cartoon being aired on Saturday morning, right?
