I can't stop thinking about songs, dammit!
Harvey Danger - "Flagpole Sitta"
Barenaked Ladies - "One Week"
Fatboy Slim - "The Rockefeller Skank"
The three-headed monster Will Smith created that year: "Miami", "Just The Two of Us", and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It"
Pigeonhed/Lo Fidelity Allstars - "Battle Flag"

1998 kicked ass. That was the year I turned 21, so that was pretty much the final milestone in my life. I celebrated like anybody that age, by getting drunk and clubbing every week. I guess turning 25 and getting lower insurance is a milestone too, but that is bullshit in the first place that still pisses me off even today.

GREAT song.
I can't stop thinking of music from that era either. 1998 was the year I was a junior (in the spring) and senior (in the fall) in high school... so a lot of this music reminds me of doing random high school stuff with my friends.
Oh, and January 4, 1998 was the date I put in my second-best goaltending performance ever... yes, I remember the date . 46 shots, 43 saves (including stopping 3 two-on-nones in the third periodin a 4-3 win over Washington Township. I treasure that one since Washington Twp. was something like 19-0 at the time and everyone in South Jersey was scared of them.
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

For one night, I did feel like a king, yeah. It was awesome. To this day, my favorite sports memory is stopping the last breakaway with 2.4 seconds left and covering up the puck, knowing that Township didn't have enough time to win the faceoff and score. So after I covered the last breakaway, I got to look up at the clock and KNOW, barring a miracle, it was over.
Unfortunately, exactly a month later, we played them in the championship game. Weirdly, that was the best game I ever played. 42 shots, 41 saves. We ended up losing 1-0. Township scored on a two-on-none with 46.3 seconds left in the game. I remember that one very vividly too. Mostly looking up at the clock, seeing the 1 go up there, skating to the bench for the extra attacker, and breaking my stick over my knee after the clock hit 0. That one really, REALLY hurt.

I'm sorry...can't blame yourself for that one...you did everything you could, your offense just didn't pick you up. That must be the most helpless feeling in the world, though...knowing you busted your ass for the entire game and then your offense leaves you high and dry.

The music of this time is a big memory for me. Rock-pop definitely. Pop itself was just emerging and wouldn't be a major force until about 2000 and 2001. This was a time of rock bands, boy bands(meaning Hanson) and R&B, like Brandy and Monica mentioned earlier.
For me, songs of this time just don't age. They're always good and represent a time capsule of my youth. Incubus and Korn were unknowns, though a friend of mine had all their stuff then and had me listen to them.
Me and some guys from school, we had a band and we tried real hard.

My favorite album, Midwestern Songs of the Americas, by the Dillinger Four, was released in 1998
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

1998 for me:
- I was 7 going on 8 on June 5th of that year. I was without a care in the world, and it felt GOOD. Sad I'll never have that freedom again.
- TV was still very awesome. Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, etc. was 90% of what I watched. Also: Pokemon at 7:30 in the morning, right before school. Very interesting conversations in the schoolyard.
- Owned an N64 and loved it. Bomberman 64, NBA Courtside, 4 player VS. Goldeneye when my cousins come over, and Ocarina of Time. When that came out literally EVERYONE on my block was playing it.
- Played Doom the first time at a friend's house on his Windows 95 PC at night. Scared the shit out of me. MK Gold too on their PlayStation, I think.
- AOL was kinda still THE INTERNET and had some pretty cool stuff on it that I think I won't find ever again. =/
- I also liked those bubblegum pop songs. Liked 'em. I'd listen to that Hanson song with my sis a lot.
- BEST HALLOWEEN EVER. I think I dressed up as Superman, Batman, or a karate guy. In addition to the TONS of candy I got, some lady who didn't even have any candy just dropped cash, and I got 2 bucks that night. I also remember eating all that stuff until my teeth rotted watching some kind of block on Nick (I remember the The Wild Thornberrys being on) while my paranoid mom checked the stuff before I ate it.
- I distinctly remember my mom taking me to see 2 movies that year: The Rugrats Movie, The Fifth Element, and not much else.
That was a mouthful. I think I'm more nostalgic for this year than 1997 and 1999, which were also cool.
I just added Star Wars Rogue Squadron to the games list and started the movie list as well.

Th 1990's was the pinicale of society. A near perfect world. Where technology was balanced....................... You know what, forget that. The 1990's while it was the
Age where nothing occured, it was the best years of this entire planet.
It was 1995 when the world started to give the machines ever job.
I was talking with a CIO the other day. He was telling me the networks we use today is the same as ten years ago. Nothing really has changed asides the speed itself, and technologies used to link them.

Speaking of being obsessed with 1998 I just bought a back issue of Entertainment Weekly from 1998 on eBay. It features the cast of Wild Things on the cover, one of my favorite movies from 1998.

Don't really recall very much of 1998 except that I was really drunk and high for most of that year as well as the following, and I bought up lots of Stars Wars stuff.
