so, i have a complaint against xbox live.

my subscription was supposed to get renewed 10-20 2009. i received an email stating this and even the website confirmed this.

apparently, they had an older debit card # and i never updated it. i basically forgot. i assumed everything automatic was up to date on my end, but apparently it wasnt. so, my renewal never went thru. it went thru on 11-23 actually. so, that threw all my finances out of whack. i got lucky since i only received 2 overdraft fees ($32 a piece... total $64) but at the same time i feel as though i should be reimbursed.

i never received any followup email indicating there was trouble w/my card. i never received anything letting me know they were going to delay the renewal or anything. so, obviously, i was unprepared.

i hate dealing w/MSN because most of their customer service and tech support is in New Delhi and i just cant stand them. so, should i even bother calling them and hope that i get a reimbursement, or just bite the bullet and swallow the $64?

addendum: i apologize for the international audience here. 11-23 is november 23 + 10--20 is october 20. since internationally they put the day first and the month second.

In this case the error was on your end, as your information was not current, and so the fault lies mostly with your end. Though, how did they get your new card number without you giving it to them?

I'm a little confused......was the original debit# on a closed account? Or did you get a new debit card# on the same account?

Also, I think you're much better off using a credit card than a debit card. You won't get hit with overdraft fees, and they won't have access to your bank account. I think it's safer in terms of identity theft as well, since the credit card company will deal with them rather than you having to do the work if someone steals your identity.

the old card was a debit card that was linked to my checking account. i think i lost that card so i got a replacement, but i would naturally assume that my bank would cancel out that old card. apparently they didnt and linked up the old card w/the new card which is still linked to my checking account.

i dont care about paying for the membership, i just would have liked a warning to budget better.

so, in short, same checking account, but different debit cards. im pretty sure i reported the old card lost, which means they should have closed that card. which is probably what caused the delay in renewing my membership.

If you lost the old card and they issued you a new one, I think you should go to the bank and tell them what happened. Clearly they didn't de-activate the old card, which should be standard procedure when a card is lost/stolen.

Yea it's a pain in the ass, but if it happened the way you say, I think you'll succeed in getting the bank to cancel the overdraft fees. It was their mistake.

Xbox had your debit card number which is more than likely the same on your replacement card, they didn't try swiping an old card, the just entered the identical data. Try anyway though, can't hurt, maybe they will at least cut it in half.

I have access to many useful databases and may be able to help straighten out your predicament, please give me your new card number so I can proceed to assist you.

the smarter thing to do would have been to buy the prepaid card and just enter the code. it's instant and there's no chance of things like this happening.

This is what I do because this exact thing happened to me.

Maybe ask them to spit on it next time before they fuck you?
