Such as?
I know you could kill Thwomps with the Ax Suit, but I believe the Tanooki suit acts the same as the Raccoon suit, other than turning into a statue.

I'm liking NSMB Wii so far. Already finished the 2nd world, and ran into a couple old enemies from Mario 3.

I'll be playing this in a couple of weeks..
My friend bought it and says it's really good, and he's usually not one for platformers (not even the original SMB games).

Got this in the mail on Tuesday, haven't played it yet. I'm saving as a reward for when I finish some writing... which means I'll never get to play it

Yeah, the it looked similar enough to guess that. I'll have my copy Friday, somehow Amazon didn't ship my pre-order until Tuesday...I'll let it slide due to their track record. I think it will be a blast playing with my 7 year old daughter, she loves playing NSMDS but struggles when she needs to run or run jump so it will be fun to help her out.

nice. my 4 year old niece was playing Peggle on my iTouch, so i didnt have to worry about her bothering me either.
i was hoping the physics would be more like the old NES mario's, mostly cause i like going 0-60 in a split second, whereas in the newer ones, you actually have to run a bit before gaining some speed.
and i hate how you cant kick shells upwards.

I don't know what everyone is bitching about, this game kicks some serious ass. It's nice to see that Nintendo took some feedback on board about boss fights and ramped up the difficulty a bit, some parts of this game kicked my ass so hard that it was offering to play itself for me, and I am NOT new to the franchise.
And for everyone bitching about the price point, STFU. I live in Australia and paid $91 US for this game on release day. ANYONE who lives in the USA has NO RIGHT to complain about game pricing. Just be thankful you're not here.

hint: remember that kicking a turtle shell into a coin will give you same credit as you picking it up. even star coins.

Um, when could you ever kick a turtle shell upwards? I remember being able to TOSS things upwards in SMW, but kick?
Also, the cannons in the NSMB games are lame. STAR ROAD OR NOTHING!

Well you could kick the shell in Super Mario RPG, so technically you're not wrong

After the $10 Amazon credit and buying it at $46, it is well worth the money. I still havent touched the coin or free for all stuff, but so far I have a few thoughts...
Why is yoshi limited to the level in which he is found? Maybe this is an unlockable later.
Agreed, shells should be vertically tossable.
The propellor hat is ok, but no cape? also, i liked the ability to "flutter" in SMB 3.
This game is more difficult that mario world, but the amount of power-ups you can save is ridiculous. I have 50 something mushrooms, and about 10 of each of the others.
I liked the color coding of the levels in super mario world that let you know when there were alternate endings to the level. I have found a most canon paths, but on some it is hard to determine which level unlocks the canon.
I hope upon beating the game, something happens that increases replayability, like the new colors in super mario world.
I only hope syd ends up being right and there is a star road after completing the game. I have my fingers crossed.

And something else that I have always wondered... what is the purpose of points in mario?

My thoughts...
Too many power-ups stored, too many power-ups in level
The levels aren't super easy like in NSMB DS, a touch more challenging, except for the above problem.
The world layouts are pretty cool
I actually like all the power ups, propeller hat is cool, ice balls are cool, fire balls are classic.
Yoshi rules!
The "Save the Toad" thingy is fucking stupid and annoying.
I really like the level designs that I have seen so far, very original, it doesn't feel like NSMB DS which I was fearing.
Music could be better.
Overall I do like this game a lot, def. a step up from NSMB DS.

Agh those stupid stupid Toad escort missions! Why anyone would think that an escort mission was a good idea in a Mario game is totally beyond me, one of the worst ideas in the history of gaming.
I think your enjoyment of this game could definitely be reduced in direct proportion to your hate and annoyance of Toad.

you know, i dont mind the toad missions too much. at least, not so far. im only on world 3, and been trying to find everything, so those missions might get more annoying later on.
i agree that there are far too many powerups. and way too easy to get extra men. i have about 60 men so far and im only @ world 3

Bragging rights holdover from the heyday of 80s arcades, plus I'm pretty sure netting enough points gets you extra lives.

Technically he escorts you, but he's probably the most annoying character in the Mario universe.

...I was thinking the same thing. I'm only on World 2 (Not counting the World 5 Warp), and I have 75 lives. We all know getting extra lives in Mario games has never really been a problem, but it's almost ridiculously easy here.
But then again, maybe it's that way to offset the increased difficulty all the reviewers keep raving about...
