I know you can play it legit, but the temptations are always there.

I honestly can't do it, that's just how I role. Even if a game is ridiculously hard to find/expensive, I'd rather shell out the cash to enjoy it than resort to anything else.

TBH, I remember playing Mega Man games sporadically, getting NES-frustration due to the difficulty.
This was back when I was 5.
Last year, though, I was bored out of my mind, and I decided to download these guys and beat them.
Megaman 1 was easy, but you HAD to start early during the day, or else you're fucked. I started at about 7 PM and finished just before going to bed.
Megaman 2 was the easiest of the first three, and also has some of the best stages ever. We all know this game like the back of our hands today, but when I played it and beat it I was like: "That was it?"
It seemed too easy for a megaman game and then I played 3.

And in 3 words, too, I can summarize my review:
Fuck Doc Man.

I agree with Ba'al, I don't have too much trouble with them. I've beaten them all. All the Classic series, the X series, Zero series, ZX series, Legends series. Never got into the Battle Network stuff though. Of the classic series, 3 is the hardest one if you ask me. It's just full of parts that are such a pain in the ass.

I primarily have problems with Mega Man 1. Simple because I don't play it a lot whenever I want to play Mega Man. I'll usually put in 2 or 3.

I also don't find the difficulty to be THAT hard. A little memorization, practice, and stages can be run through killing few enemies if you want. I'd say it's of average difficulty for games of the time.

I mainly play these games to get to the spots where you have to fight ALL the robot masters again. It's so fun in 2 and even better in 3 with the Doc Robots and the current 8 returning even later.

Contra? Hard? Bah! Douche's Contra round of basic gun grinding brought in a challenge, but if you can pick up guns(and you couldn't in the challenge) it's easy. Even with 3 lives.

The original Mega Man is hard because you can glitch through the shooting platforms. -_-

Yeah, MM1 was just a bitch because of:

a) Ice Man's stupid platforms
b) oh, I'll just run off the edge. I should make it. LOL WTF I JUST DIED INSTANTLY!
c) yellow devil

I always figured the consensus was that 1 was the hardest game, I'm amazed people think 3 is harder. I haven't beaten either, but I've been given more problems by 1 than I did 3.

All this made me remember that Wily Castle boss in MM2, I think it's the last one before the stage where the 8 robot masters return.

It's some kind of instant death chamber with some blastdoors that can only be destroyed by Crash Man timed explosive, and behind them there are some turrets or something like that, that aim flawlessly and every few seconds will shoot you, exactly at the same time.

...

I remember my frustration as a kid. I played it again recently and it wasn't too hard, provided you had Crash Man's weapon at full charge. That, and I think you could pause in the last split nanosecond and avoid getting hit Razz

But yeah, I think MM1's the hardest!

It's too late now because you haven't been PAYING ATTENTION.

I've done it every time since I got it Christmas '92. If you can't save the Time Stopper for cutting Quickman's lifebar in half, you fuckin' suck.

Well, you could say the temptations of cheat codes are always there. Personally i think you're missing out on something great and wasting money tht could be better spent on beer or porn Laughing

Pfft...I would never pay for porn...and the same almost always goes for beer. I know you were kidding, but I just thought I'd point that out anyways...haha.

As Pandajuice has said about me before, I have an imposing masochistic way of playing games. I'm already really good with my money, and I find incredibly good deals on games that look brand new, so why wouldn't I want to pick them up? Also, they're all first editions...no "player's choice" or "top seller".

Yeah i'm with you there, especially playstation games. they call them platinum editions here, which sounds cool, but it's not. there's no artwork on the disc and they stand out like a cheap wig on the shelf as the spine is f***ing silver!.

Exactly! That's why I was bothered with them to begin with, that green label is an eye sore to look at.

The only game I have that is "best seller" is Super Mario All Stars, which I think is appropriate considering they're all rereleases anyways.

Except for 3. Megaman 3 is surprisingly easy, but most of that is thanks to Rush Jet.

I pretty much came in here to post this.

Three was good. It wasn't as easy as the later ones. With four, five and six, the games are too easy thanks to the Mega Buster. I mean, any boss can be beaten now out of sequence.

Also, it's Bomb Man -> Guts Man -> Cut Man -> Elec Man -> Ice Man -> Fire Man. People who start with Cut Man are idiots and have to revisit Elec Man's stage to get the Magnet Beam.

Oh yeah I went there.

I thought Mega Man got too easy after the second one. The hardest Mega Man games were surprisingly the most recent. Mega Man & Bass was far more difficult that than 3 through 8. Mega Man 9 was even more difficult for me. In any case they can all be beat the first time you play them. I'm not saying you won't die, but you will beat them though. Hell, I was about 10 when I beat the first one. They are challenging, but not extremely difficult.

Yeah, there's no way they could've kept up the fun factor if they didn't fix the obvious problems after the first game.

On another note, I plan on doing a painting based on the cover art for the first Mega Man game, it always gave me a good chuckle.

That's pretty cool

But the laughable cover of the first game is what's so intriguing about it

Seriously! How ugly is that?

Honestly, the first time I saw this game during the early 90's (when Mega Man was still pretty big), I thought it was a bootleg game, it looked NOTHING like the other games, until you turned it on.

But even though it's the most obvious ugly concept art, the same can be said for almost any series from back in the day. They usually tried to make things look edgy at first, but if things did ok, they'd make them more cartoony.
