I love GTA IV and probably play it everyday, but my favorite will always be Vice City. I have not played it in years but I still remember the weapons & tank codes.

I had the most fun with San Andreas. I thought the characters were all pretty funny, and I enjoyed how large the map was. I had a lot of fun with the "country" areas of the map.

GTA IV was good and obviously technically superior, but I liked the more loose, cartoony feel of the previous games.

i only played about 2-3 hours of SA, so i cant say much about it. i dont like how you have to eat or work out, or worry about a girlfriend.

i did play the hell out of VC until my memory card refused to read my save. and it always happens on the last mission. same thing w/GTA III.

Both III and Vice City were a lot of fun. It wasn't to "real" and it more or less it didn't try to involve character depth, which is why the later games suck. Why do I want to feel for a guy who is a homicidal maniac? That's why Claude and Vercetti were so damn cool. Also, it didn't overdo things, you had side missions and all that, but you didn't have to worry about status or turf.

I'll go with Vice City, it had great music, Tommy was a bit cooler than Claude...and it had the most amount of stuff to do, without going overboard.

Vice City. Miami, fast cars and bikes, Scarface-like ending and VROCK.

I think I'm going to install it again.

San Andreas, so fun. The 90's, large variety in the terrain, fun characters, no insta-death due to water, etc.

GTA 3 is a nostalgic favorite, but San Andreas was clearly a more fun game. The terrain changes, the flying, the races. It just never gets old.

Boy, tough choice between VC and SA. VC had the superior music and feel to it (love the 80s), but SA was much better looking, and the 100% rewards were much more worthwhile. Also, the eating/muscle/girlfriend shit is all optional, so doesn't detract from the main game.

It's a toss up for me, I love them both.

What do you mean it was optional? You were forced to eat, and you had to date that one chick to get the card key. Sure, you didn't have to work out, but it certainly helped you jump higher and run faster.

I don't remember eating or maintaining girlfriends being required for very much, nor do I remember them even being annoying if they were required. It's not like the entire game hinged on them, or that they were tedious minigames or anything. You took the girl out a few times when you got bored of doing missions, and then you're done with her. All part of the fun of the game for me.

You were forced to eat, but as I recall you really only had to eat like once every several hours, so it never really interfered that much. (Or maybe I died so often that I never lived long enough to get hungry....can't say which).

And with the weightlifting, you'd have to go to the gym like 5 times to get fully jacked, but then it was a while before you'd lose it to a significant degree. So I don't think it was that big of a deal.

1. GTA: San Andreas (Early 90's feel inspired by movies like South Central, Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society, etc. really spoke to me. Also, holy shit the amount of stuff you can do)
2. GTA IV (Very realistic)
3. GTA: Vice City (remember having a lot of fun with this back when it was just ported to Xbox)
4. GTA III
5. Toss-up between Chinatown Wars and GTA 2.

See, that's the thing...I always resetted when I died.

As I mentioned in the other thread; turf wars, girlfriends, eating, Currier phone calls all made the game annoying because it interfered with whatever you were already doing. If the game allowed you to turn these things off, it would've been fine.

I agree that the turf wars were annoying. Especially if you didn't have weapons/armor (and didn't want to use cheats). By the time you got your weapons and arrived at the scene it was already too late.

Exactly...they made you prepare at ALL times.

I'd always go all out and just use a helicopter and a sniper rifle, that way I'd take over the entire area in one fell swoop (around 3 hours), that way I wouldn't have to have that stupid message pop up when I'm trying to do some unique jumps or something.

Hint with the turf wars: They deactivate if you starts and quickly end a vehicle mission, get food, or save.

1. SA (Loved the setting and the story.)
2. IV (A blast to mess around on, and I think it get more entertaining everytime I play it.)
3. GTA - Original (Was completely unique at the time, and I played this for ages. LAN party play was also some of the most fun multiplayer I have ever done.)

That's the thing

I try not to waste mission attempts, not exploit any thing of that magnitude. Plus, it still counts on your stats...which really is a peeve of mine.

2 will always be the most fun to me. I thought the driving controlled perfectly, the city was made for driving, and the weapons worked well.
San Andreas had the best game play of the 3D era, Vice City the most fun story, and 4 had... production value I guess. I found 4 mediocre.

Me too Nero

I played it and was bored within a couple of hours...all the missions were the same and they tried to humanize Nico...which begs the question as to WHY you would want to humanize him?

Dude, seriously Dodd, you should really try playing the game without being a total masochist. It's a lot more fun without your insane personal goals getting in the way.

I'm not a masochist in the game, in fact quite the contrary. I played through about 40% of the game, the character development was pretty boring, it's gotten typical by now as far as protaganists go in GTA games, but even more pathedic in Nico's case. They try to have you "made decisions", which don't effect anything you really do in the game anyways, so what's the point? Also, there's so many missions where you just go in there and shoot up a building, I miss the days of flying a plane and distributing porno all over the city. GTA always felt like good mindless fun while having a loose story involved. GTA 4 didn't feel like that, it felt as if the air was sucked out of the game and given such a serious tone, that it just felt like so many other games they make nowadays. Also the fact that they count "cinematics skipped" as a stat is SUCH a weak move by Rockstar.
