So I just upgraded to IE8, and every time I click on something, it makes a click sound. HOW THE FUCK DO I DISABLE THIS?
I can't find it in the IE settings, nor in Control Panel - Sounds.

Good question
I never noticed the clicking noise...I usually tune it out...but now that you mention it...it's going to annoy me

That's one of the drawing features to IE. Seriously.
I don't know how to turn it off, though. Sorry man.

You have to do it from the control panel, go into hardware & sounds, then sounds, then change system sounds, then a new window will open and scroll down the list until you get to the Windows explorer category, then click on the start navigation sub category, now in the drop menu at the bottom change the .wav to NONE, apply and regain sanity

Doesn't that also tamper with all sounds coming from Windows Explorer, including every page you open?

Thanks, Rydog! That worked. That's weird that it's under Windows Explorer and not Internet Explorer, as they are two very different programs.

Another question, in the URL bar, how do you get rid of the "History" and " Favorites " lists on it?

Here's an embarassing one: I can't get the dropdown history menu to work. Anytime I click, nothing happens.

Seriously, I hate to be one of "those guys" but...
Why use IE? It's just not that good. There's a myriad of other browsers, each easier to use and better to surf on.

Fire Fox actually slows down my computer...that's why. People have tried to get me on it before, but it's not that good in some cases.

I understand FF can slow down computers. But there's Opera, Chrome, Songbird, Safari, Flock, ummm... I know there are more...
Oh well. I'm not going to say anything else. PROMISE
I'm just not a fan of IE.

Because I don't like being told what to do. People are always like "Waaaah IE sucks. Get a new browser."
Yeah, IE sucks if you're fucking dumb enough to click a link in an email from "Amazon" asking you to update your credit card info.
Otherwise, it's great.

Each browser has its strengths and weaknesses.
IE: Great for corporate use because of GPO support. It has the best support of any browser. It has OS integration. It also has a great programming control that allows it to be more simply integrated into other products. Steam is a perfect example of such a product. On the negative, it is slow, standards resistant, and heavily targeted for exploits. An IE crash usually means you need a reboot. A full blown IE crash could go as far as to mean that you need a full reinstall of Windows itself.
Firefox: It has extensions, which make it great for a daily browser. It is capable of being run in a selective space such as on a thumb drive. It cannot currently have its windows placed as separate processes. It has the most potential to fit a need. It is mostly standards compliant. It is a bitch to work with in corporate environments since they put all of their settings in text files, but those files can be worked on and even directed to point to a network config, so it does function.
Chrome: It is blazingly fast. Each window can be run as an independent process. It has great memory management. JavaScript can be used almost like a compiled programming language with it. Its settings controls are poorly laid out. It doesn't use a standard Window, so it doesn't always play nice. It doesn't always render pages the way you want even though it is very standards compliant (I think this is because of how it renders input control objects). Updates aren't always well tested before they are released.
Opera: Standards compliant to the max. Otherwise it is just a pain in the ass over in the corner. It is fast, and renders well, but it always will be that "other browser" that gets no respect because of its history as a pay product.
Safari: It should be everything that Chrome is, but it isn't. It fucking sucks balls and shouldn't be used. Yes it is fast. Yes it renders most pages well. Yes it never seems to do exactly what it is supposed to. It is the quirkiest browser I have ever used. I am confident when I say that this is my least favorite browser on both the PC and the Mac. However, I am appreciative of it on the iPhone. I honestly wish that Apple would put as much effort into their desktop software as they do into their phone and OS... or just let another company make the damn browsers.

I like Firefox for it's add-ons and stuff, I used Opera as an alternative browser, it was pretty awesome.

Why drive a Ford when a Chevy is blah blah blah blah.....
That's pretty much sums it up.
Why do I use IE?
Because I have been using IE since 1994, and I am comfortable with it.

Seriously though. Why can't I get the drop down menu of recently typed websites to work?

Okay, so I figured it out. For some reason, the dropdown history only works if Autocomplete is enabled. This is completely fucking gay, because I hate Autocomplete.

Yeah I've never cared for Autocomplete, what's the point of having usernames & passwords if you're too fucking lazy to remember them?

Autocomplete is great if you're the only person in the entire world who will ever use the computer its on. Otherwise, not so much. Someone wants to go to PBS.org, so they start typing, and once they've gotten as far as "www.p", they can see you've been to Playboy.com. That's not cool. The thing I've always liked about the dropdown history, is that only shows sites you've manually typed in. So if you use the search box to find a site, it doesn't show up in the dropdown history. But Autocomplete pulls from your browser history, so it will show any site you've been to recently that starts with the letter combination in question. There's absolutely no reason for the dropdown history to be linked to Autocomplete, and that pisses me off.

To turn off auto complete in internet explorer, do the following steps in IE.
Open Internet Explorer
Tools
Internet Options
Content Tab
AutoComplete Button
