hard ass fucking game. More specifically Mega Man 3 on the Snake level. I never played Mega Man growing up so I wanted to try it out

Some people say Contra and Castlevania are hard games, but those games are easy to me compared to these Mega Man games.

Do I need to practice more or do they have game mechanics that some people just hate?

Practice a lot

I've only ever beaten 4 and 5 as far as the classic format is concerned. They're all good games

I'm amazed at how difficult 9 was, considering what 7 and 8 were like...those were a breeze.

That is one of the harder levels, keep practicing, once you get the feel for it, you'll be okay.

I always found the Mega Man games to be very difficult. I much preferred Metroid with its significantly much more forgiving life system.

Ha. I actually whipped out my good old MM:AC two days ago and started working on beating every one of these damn games. All I have to say on the matter is that Yellow Devil's first incarnation can go fuck itself.

Working on 4 right now. Some of the names for these bosses are just silly, and Ring Man reminds me of a physicaly fit teletubby.

MM2 very well might be my favorite game of all time. And if all else fails, use Metal Man's weapon. I think about 50% of the robot masters have some form of weakness to it.

Yeah, there's definately a stategy to the games obviously. If you don't know the order or don't want to mess with it, just look at a good walkthrough and go that route. The games aren't impossible, it takes a real gamer to beat them though.

Mega Man games are freakin' easy, even Mega Man 9 was medium at best and the original is still the hardest due it's overall lower budget programming.

No they aren't, and don't think anyone is impressed by you claiming they are so easy for you, cuz we're not.

I always found them to be challenging, but not annoying difficult like Contra or Battletoads. It's a good kind of challenge that diminishes with the more practice you put into it and feels satisfying after you finish it. For me, Contra was always way too difficult and no matter how much I played, it still seemed almost impossible.

Also, I think the Mega Man X games were even more challenging than the original ones, but I'm not sure why.

Really? I found the X games to be far easier...Mega Man was easier to handle and wasn't stiff at all. They still presented a challenge, but not nearly as much as the other games.

I'm not saying it to impress anyone, I've been playing the games for about five years and I honestly don't believe they're that hard. Yeah the bosses could be cheap, but next to all of them have discernible patterns. The knockback is nowhere near as big as in Castlevania where you can fall into a pit that's within five feet of you, and you can farm enemies for more lives unlike Contra.

And yes, Mega Man X games are harder especially the later games on PS1.

Yeah I know, I never had the games on NES and my earliest memories are of playing Mega Man: Wily Wars on the Sega Channel. I didn't discover emulation and the Anniversary Collection until alot later.

....but that's CHEATING Wink

Ya gotta sit down with the NES and attempt that shit legit...I don't run emulators and don't have the desire to since part of the fun of beating a game is beating it the way it was made to be beaten. Emulators have save states and all that..

You don't HAVE to use save states, and are we saying Contra is hard with the code or without? Cuz it is cake with the code.

No one cares what my opinion is, but I have to agree with Doddsino here.

Recently a friend of mine, a nice guy with little to no gaming experience, having watched me play MM9 on PS3, expressed his desire to play "all of those games. The old Mega Mans, the ones with the ugly graphics." I didn't punch him right there because I foresaw the games would make him suffer, and suffer greatly, and that in itself was punishment enough <3

Well, I got out my old NES from under that pile of blankets in the closet and said "Alright, if that is what you want..." So I fired up Mega Man (The first). My afternoon then got booked solid. I even invited some other friends over to gaze in awe at a "Mega Man n00b" trying to get over the flying platform section in Ice Man's stage, or those blasted platforms on reels from the Guts Man stage. He has been over two or three times after that, and to my surprise, he still wants to play. He has gotten better, specially at timing jumps and dodging enemies. He has spent the last visit trying to beat the Yellow Devil. Poor sod.

So, all in all, I agree with what Pandajuice said. Mega Man games are pretty hard, but not unlawfully so. If you practice, you *will* eventually prevail.

It's too late now because you haven't been PAYING ATTENTION.

Mega Man games were hard until about the SNES era.

Except for 3. Megaman 3 is surprisingly easy, but most of that is thanks to Rush Jet.

But they KNEW the game was hard...that's why they put the code in there. Exploiting anything on the natural game is fine, but using modern technology to beat games sorta loses it's feel. But that's just my opinion.

I don't think I ever beat Quickman's stage without using Flashman's time-stopper.

MM is one of my favorite franchises ever.. at least the original three, I loved those and had them on NES. I don't find them particularly challenging, parts of them are, but as a whole its linear and virtually every aspect of gameplay fits a pattern. It could be "hard" if you don't know the pattern, in that case all you need is practice to familiarize yourself with what to expect and how to be prepared for it. I've played 4-6 probably a dozen times on emulator and still don't like them. I also don't really have a problem with the mechanics of the game. The first two might be a bit wonky compared to today's games, but his little tiny half-step and the half-step slide were part of the game; that shouldn't kill it for you. And if you manage to get killed by falling of a platform more than a few times by not stopping early enough, you can't blame that on the game, you just suck. Perhaps these games aren't for everyone, but I don't think that they're as hard as some people make them out to be.

Part of my problem with Mega Man 1 is I'll be playing it, and being reminded that I can enjoy Mega Man much more if I popped in one of the sequels. That's not to say I can't enjoy Mega Man 1, but I can only die so much before I put 2 in.

I have, and I have video proof. Smile

Yeah, I died once. Wily Wars controls are wonky.

You CAN play the game legit on an emulator. the savestates are there as an option. i only ever use one at a pw screen, saving the hassle of entering it next time.
