just starting a thread on this. i couldnt find one, so if there is one, i apologize.

anyhow, its common knowledge now that the koopa kids (from SMB3 + SMW fame) are finally making a return to gaming. that makes me happy, since i didnt care for bowser Jr.

i never knew how they got the names for the kids, but these two articles on 1up.com shed some light on this.

feel free to discuss the kids, or the games or whatev. threads usually derail anyway.

Lemmy's the best, because he's actually the front-man to Motorhead.

I have high hopes for NSMB Wii, the DS one was good, but I felt like something was missing?

The Koopa Kids are cool, I don't mind Bowser Jr. though.

http://mariobroswii.com/

I have watched a few videos and come to a few of my own conclusions.

1.) It looks like a polished version of Super Mario World.
2.) It looks like it is a game I would suck at.
3.) It does not graphically impress. I feel like the N64 could have output the same results, and at the very least, the GameCube.
4.) $50 seems like a steep price for this game.

Yeah, while I'm all about Mario games...$50? For a side scroller?

And don't get me wrong...I LOVE side scrollers...I grew up with them...they're some of the best games I've ever played. But it's different now, it's been different for about 12 years...and I don't see how they can have the balls to release this for such a steep price. I might check it out, but it really looks like a step backwards for Mario and company, but that's just my opinion.

You know what? I consider this game WIN. It seems like it incorporates all the best parts of Mario 3, Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros DS and it... well, I love it. I've already beaten it 100%. It was brief, but I don't think it's because they made it too short, more like growing up with Mario games makes it easy. Let's face it: When you played Mario 3 way back when, did you beat it in a day, or did it take you awhile? Same principle; I can beat Mario 3 in like 15 minutes now.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

Eh, everything else i can see, but i don't understand where you're coming from here. It looks good. It doesn't appear that anything was down sampled. This was clearly the look they were going for, and I think it looks good. In fact, it's the first mario game for their main consoles that actually looks like a mario game since the SNES. The fact that it's not pushing the consoles hardware to the limit is insignificant if they are doing exactly what they want visually.

I actually am envious of wii owner's now as this looks right up my alley.

I love all games Mario. I really do and I pick up almost all the games as soon as they are released. I even bought The New Super Mario Bros. for the DS the first day it was released. But, I still haven't picked this one up, although I know I will sooner or later. I'm not sure why, but there's something about it that just doesn't have me as interested as I would think, even though I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I get it. I think it might be the fact that with Super Mario Galaxy 2 announced and coming out next year, that's the Mario game I really want.

Me too Sexton...this "New Super Mario Bros." is a nice throwback, but it just doesn't register on the same level as other new games to me...

I got it for 36.99. Bought off Amazon, tax-free with Super Saving Shipping for 46.99, plus $10 off my next video game purchase made before January 31, 2010. It shipped on Saturday, should have by Wednesday.

I had to have it, but I'm not all that excited by it.

4 player co-op? That'll be a complete clusterfuck. Co-op will either make the game too easy (not enough enemies programmed in) or too hard (ever do Contra co-op?), and knowing Nintendo, it'll be too easy. The original NSMB was fun, but it was a complete joke. Aside from trying to beat those two bosses as Mini Mario, and a few parts in Level 8, the game was retardedly easy. Also, the Propellor Suit looks dumb. Also, two Toads as playable characters, NEITHER OF WHICH is Toad? What the fuck? Give us Wario and Waluigi.

Fuck Waluigi...what has he EVER done to warrant being in a game? Hell, even Wario has broken the stereotype of being Mario's doppleganger. Waluigi needs to establish his own legacy before he bitches it out as a sidekick of a doppleganger.

And this whole 4 player shit...is it true in order to get 100%, you NEED co-op? That's the stupidest shit in the world, which is why I'm so turned off by so many games nowadays because they put co-op play before single player...I don't give a FLYING FUCK about online co-op because I don't go online to fucking play.

Jesus christ are you people unfuckingpleaseable? The game is either too different from the side scrolling games of past, or it's too much like it.The ds game is 35 new of course the wii version will cost more it would make no sense if it didn't.

That's another issue. Nintendo needs to fix its prices. NSMB came out YEARS ago. Why isn't down to $20 and being sold with a NUMBER ONE RUCKY-SELLING BEST GAME sticker on it?

Why does every game coming out HAVE to be $50?

Are you telling me that this is on the same level as Mario Galaxy? It's definately not.

I'm not saying it isn't good, I have yet to play it, but from what I've gathered from most people who have played it, yes $50 is too much to ask.

I don't think $50 is too much to ask for a NEW game. But why is Galaxy still $50? Hell, why is Twlight Princess still $50? IT WAS A FUCKING LAUNCH TITLE. Third party titles go down from $60 to $20-30 within 8 months.

I love this game. It's fun, lots of fun.

And no, you don't need to co-op in order to 100% the game, whoever said that is a liar and sucks at Mario. Some of the star coins are a bitch to get if you don't have a friend you can sacrifice to the star coin gods or whatever, but it's all doable with one player.

Also you guys whine way too much. Either buy/play/enjoy the game or don't. No one's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play it.

Is Super Paper Mario still $50? I can understand why Twilight Princess or Galaxy are still high because they're very good games with a lot of replay value.

But if Super Paper Mario is still $50...that game was such a rip off. It was fun for a while, I beat it quite easily in 2 days and never had the desire to pick it back up. That's why I'm hesistant towards this game, because it looks like the same thing.

It is what it is. We all know it is a sidescroller, it will be fun, quirky and hopefully more challenging then New SMB DS.

And WTF, I haven't even gotten a delivery confirmation from Amazon yet, piss me off.

How much did a sidescroller cost on the SNES? I can't see complaining about the brand that is ALWAYS cheaper by $10 when a games launches. And if you know how to shop, you can get great deals, $37 on amazon instead of $53, as stated above.

That's the thing though, sure SNES was expensive...but that was 15 years ago...games have evolved a lot since then..asking the same price for something that isn't all that much different from a console from 15 years ago IS asking a lot. Once I finally do sit down and play the game, I'll make my decision on the price, but since it looks quite similar to how Super Paper Mario was, I don't think they should charge THAT much.

All things considered, why are you guys bitching about a game, even if it's SMB, that's $50? If I remember correctly, in the 80s, an NES copy of SMB3 was $60. And that's if you found it right away. Chrono Trigger was $80. My point is, if you adjust for inflation, you're more or less getting the exact same amount of game for much cheaper.

Anyone bitching about this game being $50 obviously doesn't remember paying $50 or more for an NES game. Or $60 for a next-gen game now. Or obviously not collectors, because some of those same old school games we paid $50 can be like fucking $200 now.

I more than remember...I remember DKC 2 costing around $70 at some places.

But the point remains, if I program a game that looks like a port of a DS game and release it for $50 on the basis that it's the price of every other game...does that make it right?

I might be in the minority, especially with Wii buyers, but if I didn't own the games I own now and had a choice in buying them, with the basis of how much they cost...why would I even consider this game right away?

Anyways, I'm going to drop it. I can see we aren't going to agree on the subject, and that's fine. I just think it's steep for what you get.

SMB3 was 49.99, IIRC.

SNES/Genesis games were damn expensive though.
