I found this while searching for images of parfaits. This looks like a really interesting Mario hack. To download it, scroll down to the bottom and click on AIRver1.01 to download the LZH archive. In order to play the hack, you must apply the IPS patch to a ROM of the original SMB. It irreversibly alters the ROM, so make sure you make a copy of the ROM before patching it.
I haven't been able to try it yet because I only have the multi-cart SMB ROM.

I saw the speedrun of the air hack. I'm sure actually playing it would frustrate the hell out of me, because I don't know all the glitches you have to abuse to solve some of the puzzles.

Air is the most fucking insane thing I've ever seen in my life as far as hacks go.
It's difficult and frustrating. And basically yeah, what it boils down to is "Solve my maze!".
If anyone's interested in watching the insanity that is Air, the speedrun is here.

They said the jumping was hacked so that you could jump more than once in mid-air, and you only have the one life you start with. Eventually through collecing coins, you earn more, and have to lose them to get past certain points. Playing it doesn't help my blood pressure, much the same way Battletoads angered me in my youth.

You could also play the Sirius Mario Bros hacks (there are six). Some of them feature the grey design of level 6-3.
It's pretty hard, but much less than Air, and you have 9 lives.
Depending on which you choose, you could see, in level 1-1 :
-lava
-hammer bros
-lakitu
-very long holes (or high platforms)
-bowser
In the third, you can swim in lava.

That looks insane, I am sure playing it would quickly cause me to break my computer in a fit of rage.
That speedrun is pretty badass though.

I tried converting a VMV file of a mario hack I recorded into an AVI file.
I didn't know how much space it would take. I had about 100 Mb of harddrive left after that
And it didn't even work.
