I collect old games. There's only three places in town (not counting pawn shops, in which case the total jumps to four) that sell NES, SNES and other games. I go shopping at these places a lot, but my favorite is a toss up between a used computer store I go to and a local Play N Trade franchise.

The setup-- The used computer shop sells all used games at a flat rate. $5 each for NES, $6 each for SNES and Genesis, $8 each for PS1, and so on, and all used games are buy two, get one free. I love this place because it seems like the collectors don't really know about it, and on top of that, the owner knows a bunch of ex-Nintendo employees, meaning he gets an asston of old Nintendo stuff on occasion, and since he's one of my better customers, he'll usually call me when he gets new stuff.

So I go this morning and he's got the motherlode.

THE DELIVERY: So, using full advantage of their flat rate prices, and the buy two, get one free policy, this morning, I got EARTHBOUND, SUPER METROID and CHRONO TRIGGER, all on SNES.

How much did that cost me? $12, plus tax. EPIC FUCKING WIN. Apparently, on eBay or Amazon, those games would've been almost, if not over, $100.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

That is a good deal. I picked up Chrono Trigger *BRAND NEW* for $20. I also went to this used game store on a daily basis on my way to work and they knew me on a first name basis so they'd always hook me up with a nice discount, or if the game wasn't in the system...I'd get it for free since they were lazy and they'd need to scan it through and do a bunch of other tedious things...they'd rather just give it away. Cool. The pawn shop in my town sells NES games for $2, SNES for $4, and all others for $5. I'll have to check periodically if I can make a good score.

No shit. I sold my Chrono Trigger on Ebay for $70, which is more than I payed for it new 10 years earlier! My Final Fantasy III (SNES version) for over $60, and Final Fantasy II (SNES version) for $45. So I made $175 off of them then got the re-releases of all those games on the PS1 for like $20. Totally worth it.

I'm amazed that any one would pay more than $30 for Final Fantasy III, because if you're a smart collector, you WILL find it for significantly cheaper than a lot of these assholes are charging.

Even as a collector, I can't find these games;

Bubble Bobble 2 (NES)
Bucky O Hare (NES)
Little Sampson (NES)
Pocky and Rocky (SNES)
Pocky and Rocky 2 (SNES)
Snow Brothers (NES)
Sparkster (SNES)
Stack Up *complete* (NES)

Other games that are "hard to find" that I find constantly are the Dragon Warrior games, yet I have NEVER come across a "good" quality copy of Mach Rider, which can be found anywhere for around $2, and I've seen at least 50 copies or so...

You're so lucky. The only place near me that sells used video games is a magic store. The guy there is nice, though. Very Happy

Sadly no such place exists round were i live.

I remember going to a store once though which sold used stuff but i wouldn't call it a game store. I remember it had Mario Paint and Donkey Kong Country which i bought. That was about it really.

12 bucks ro all of them? Jesus fucking christ. The only time I ever saw Earthbound in store they wanted 90, I coughed up 60 for Chrono and at another place 40-45 on Super Metroid(didn't want to wait with ebay).

Jesus, epic fucking win indeed.

Those better have been brand new, otherwise you overpaid big time on all of them.

A good copy of Super Metroid is easy to find for around $12

If I still had my NES games, I'd sell my Mach Rider to you for 5 or 10 dollars, even as a kid I kept my games in good shape and had the instruction manuals. Unless, you're talking about having the boxes AND manuals?

I didn't overpay in Canada, I've been to every local place and the only times they've had them they sell about that. Metroid I did a little bit because it was available right then and there, usually 30-40 locally, Chrono I bought for cheaper than ebay prices at the time. I didn't buy Earthbound, 90$ is what was listed on it. You have to consider that there are probably fewer copies in Canada given that our population is 10% of yours so not as many were bought brand new.

It was also in Canadian $'s when 1 CDN was equal to .80 USD. Maybe it's easy to find in the U.S for that price, but not down here.

Well, shit. I didn't know those old SNES games went for so much.

I'll have to check the box of SNES games my dad left here, but I know I have EarthBound, Secret of Mana, all the Final Fantasy games, and Chrono Trigger, all with the original boxes and user manuals, and even the little map inserts.

Maybe I should sell some of this stuff off.

I appreciate the offer. I only care about the game itself, but I probably will get to the point of buying the instructions, but most shouldn't cost more than $2, so it's hardly worth the time right now. The most I'd pay for Mach Rider with shipping would be $4, not because I'm trying to rip anyone off, but only because that's around what it's worth, and the game alone isn't spectacular. I only made it a point to mention it before, since it seems like every person who's owned this game seems to treat it like shit.

I don't know how often, if ever you get to the states, but I'd reccomend making the venture down, possibly checking within a 100 mile radius of places that sell old games, you'd likely find many games cheaper, plus I'm pretty sure they're the same region games, since I got Mario Kart from Canada, and it's in both French and English. Also, if there are any rare games you're looking for, I could keep an eye out, since it wouldn't cost much for shipping and I don't look to make a profit.

That would be sweet Dodd. There is no difference between Canadian and American games as far as I know either. We only have a few places to buy in my town and they all know too much about old video games.
