Not really, though. Save your money and just go to the library instead. For those who don't know, "The Box" is a movie "based on" the story "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson (I am Legend). The story is fantastic, and is all of 17 pages long, most of which is dialogue. Somehow, this was transformed into a 2 hour movie. And by "this", I mean "whatever". The movie was written by Richard Kelly, the writer of "Donnie Darko", "Southland Tales", and other movies that make absolutely no sense. I'm sure some of you will argue that "Donnie Darko" was the most brilliant thing you've ever seen, but the truth is, while entertaining enough, it's convoluted at best and extremely overrated. I can't stress enough how much I recommend against seeing this movie, but mad props to the AMC Moviewatcher's club dealy, cause I got a large soda, Butterfinger Minis, and peanut M&M's for $5.75. Not a great deal by Target prices, but the soda alone would normally be $4.75.

I remember seeing this and instantly saying "This is a Twilight Zone episode!"
It might've been an Outer Limits, I'm not sure, but the fact remains. Interesting that it's actually a short story as well.
Another reason to skip this is...Cameron Diaz!!!!! Who hasn't made a good movie since 1999!

It was a story first, then it became a Twilight Zone episode with a different ending that Matheson hated. Ironically, he wrote a lot of episodes of the Twilight Zone, but had no input on that one as I understand it.

If Matheson wasn't still alive, he'd be spinning in his grave.

Is Cameron Diaz suppose to be that dudes mom? Too much age difference + bad actors + a most likely different ending = movie I won''t be seeing.

Hollywood can make a movie based on any story, no matter how short it is. Actually, they can pretty much buy the rights to a book or short story and make an almost completely different movie . The Running Man and Lawnmower Man are good examples of that. Hell, Rambo died in the First Blood novel and they made three sequels to the movie (although I am kind of glad about that to be honest). Books will always be better than movies, but at least some movies try to be faithful and are entertaining. I will trust your judgment on this one though. I have no desire to see it, but I might read the original now.
Since Hollywood is running out of ideas I am just waiting to see this:

The author of First Blood actually accepts the movie ending as canon.

I would too with the royalties involved.
Edit: Speaking of that, didn't Jeff Goldblum's character die in the Jurassic Park novel.

Well.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/See_spot_run
Though that's not based off the book. The phrase "see spot run" comes from the Dick and Jane childrens books. There have two movies sharing titles only with one of those books "fun with dick and jane"
So effectively Jack wait no more.

No, he just gets mauled by a T-Rex and skirts the edge of death for awhile. I think Crichton kind of left it ambiguous as to his fate at the end of Jurassic Park, but he's alive and kicking and for some reason signing up for more dino mayhem in the Lost World.

John Hammond dies in the novel, but not in the movie.
And Muldoon doesn't die in the novel, but dies in the movie. But despite his apparent death in the movie, Muldoon is shown to have survived in the tie-in comics released by Topps.

Malcolm does die...they mention something about either an medical overdose or not being able get him the real medical help after the Rex attack. Only the following people get on the helicopter:
Grant
Satler
Harding
Genero
Muldoon
Tim

Yes, but it gets retconned away by Crichton himself, as Malcom is the hero of the book version of The Lost World as well.

The Box is so bad that Jurassic Park had to take over inorder to keep the thread alive. And you know what, the thread just got more awesome.

I know that...I'm only going by the events from before the movie came out. If Speilberg made a movie about the Resurrection and changed shit to make it more exciting, it doesn't change what was already there, even if Jesus H. Christ himself gave it a seal of approval.
And that second book is shit. I read it about 2 years after the first one, and I was so disapointed by it, it's not wonder that Speilberg didn't follow THAT story, but his movie ended up not being very good either. Although Crichton did bring back Dodgson, who I always wondered what happened to, but his fate is so ridiculous in the book, I won't even bother with it.

Awww, I enjoyed both the LW book and movie. But maybe that's just because I'm a big fan of both Malcom the character, and Goldblum the actor.
In rather the same way, I'll actually admit I enjoyed JP III since I also love Sam Neil the actor, and Grant the character.

Wasn't the original ending of First Blood just Rambo has no head left, Troutman executes the sheriff and everyone goes on living happily ever after?
It's a toss up between this movie and The Men Who Stare at Goats... I'm still leaning towards the goats only it has George Clooney in it and he is the reason why there was the Smog storm....

At the end of the book, Teasle manages to shoot Rambo in the chest. Rambo, critically wounded, still manages to elude capture and plans to kill himself with a stick of dynamite. Then he decides that it would be more honorable to die in battle, and confronts Teasle. He shoots at Teasle, to draw return fire, but accidentally hits him, critically injuring him as well. Having missed his chance at death in combat, Rambo staggers off and tries to light the dynamite again, but is too weak to do so. Then Trautman shoots him in the head. Trautman finds Teasle and tells him that he has killed Rambo. Then Teasle dies.
