Cliff Lee is unbeatable right now, you can only hope to get to the bullpen before the game is over. |

I'll just pop in this thread to say "go Yankees!" on behalf of a close buddy of mine. I'm not really interested in baseball at all unless I'm watching it at a bar with him, but he's a huge Yankees fan and was thrilled when they took the pennant. So I'm rooting for them on his behalf. |

1 down, 3 to go
I'm not watching this series, since I don't care for either team, but I want the Yankeees to lose and develop their own "curse". Curse of the A-Rod. |

Close enough. |

Yeah, I'll take it.
I can't imagine that they won't at least look into expanding replay in MLB though...SOOOO many blown calls in the playoffs. |

He was never tagged. The referee DIDN'T call him safe. He waited for the play to happen, and when the ball was thrown to second base, THEN he called him safe, because the Yankees conceded the run by not realising the runner was not safe yet.
Have you ever heard of the "4-outs inning" rule? |

I guess that would be true, I didn't notice when he called him safe, only that he did. That seems a bit confusing to be able to make a safe signal at the plate, even though it is a live play. I was under the impression that if he made the safe call at home that the ump thinks the runner has scored. But yeah, I get that the Yankees had to tag him for it to be an out. |

just like the 'infield fly rule,' they can both be confusing |

And that's south. So then naturally they call him south paw. You see? South paw, south Jersey, South Camden, south paw. You know what I mean? |

That's not how it works. If the umpire had seen that he hadn't touched the plate, Howard should have been called out when he left the field of play. The onus is on the runner to actually touch the plate, not on the fielder to tag him. The umpire missed the call. |

I think this rule covers what happened (I don't know if Howard went back to touch the plate though):
| Quote: |
[Any runner is out when] : In running or sliding for home base, he fails to touch home base
and makes no attempt to return to the base, when a fielder holds the ball in his hand, while
touching home base, and appeals to the umpire for the decision. |
Now, the umpire didn't call him safe at first, so I don't know if it's really this one (with the appeal stuff), nor am I sure of what it means, but at least
it seems to give the defense some responsibility in tagging out a runner missing home plate. |

My beef is the ump making the safe call....
According to the rule you posted, since Posada didn't know that Howard didn't touch the plate, then Howard can't be called out. If Posada knew he didn't touch the base, and grabbed the ball and stepped on home and pleaded for an out, he would get it if the ump noticed Howard didn't touch home. This is also true for a bad tag up on a pop fly, if the defense doesn't appeal, the runner is safe. |

ok, tonight we figure out if the yankees are cursed, or if they redeem yourselves.
although the phillies took out the dodgers (fuckers) i'd rather the phillies win vs the yankees.
the yankees are just one of the teams that you either appreciate, or hate. just like the LAKERS, or COWBOYS, etc etc |

I wouldn't have had a problem with the Yankees winning if they didn't have fucking A-Rod. |

I hate him too, though I'm not really sure why. But I like Derek Jeter, so the Yankees winning doesn't piss me off too much.
Also, Yankees' fans are WAY better than Phillies' fans (in the stadium at least). In Philadelphia, if they weren't winning, almost nobody rooted for them, and the fans looked bored to death. |

Yeah, Jeter is awesome. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, and is basically the the one good thing the Yankees have ever had, plus he's never seemed like the kind of guy who would use roids.
A-Rod on the other hand, basically takes a fuck load of cash and basically doesn't produce anything for the longest time, comes out about using steroids, dates fucking Madonna of all people, and has the absolute gayest batting pose I've ever seen...real jock.
I hope the Yankees spending around a billion dollars in 6 years was worth the championship.
Also, I've been talking to a "friend" of mine, and she's a Yankee fan...but lives in Detroit...who knew? Anyways, she's been gloating about the fucking Yankees all day and just because I don't share her enthusiaism, I'm "bitter". |
