Before I begin, I had trouble placing this, since it is a movie, but it covers sports in a general feel, so if needed, it can be relocated to the Sports section.
Anyways, I'm watching AMC since Field of Dreams is on. Everytime I watch this movie, I always see how this movie did it right. They made a movie about being a fan of baseball, how it was to love the game and how it was a bonding experience between father and son. My dad loved baseball, as well as basketball, and had the privliedge to chaplain for several minor league baseball teams among others. Over the years, I've had a love/hate relationship with baseball, since I always sucked at it and never had the desire that he had to play the game, but I was still a fan of watching.
Almost every movie I have ever seen about sports almost always follows the same general formula about a down and out team overcoming the odds to finally realize they have what it takes to win it all. Outside of 'Dreams and "The Sandlot", every sports movie does this. When someone recommended "Remember the Titans", I couldn't be less enthused after watching that garbage.
But each time I watch this movie, I get a little emotional, since it truly is a leap of faith towards something that I feel built connection between a father and son. It was more than a game, it was a bonding experience. Even after 20 years, this movie stands alone as way sports was meant to be shown, through the eyes of a fan.

It helps if you or your dad like sports. Neither were true in this particular case, so I'm less than a fan.

It's one hell of a movie.
I want to see the Natural, and everytime they bring up baseball movies on Baseball Tonight on ESPN, Peter Gammons always brings up Bang The Drum Slowly. I want to see that one too.

"The Natural" is an ok movie, if you like Robert Redford, which I don't. The supporting cast is also very good, and it somewhat follows the outline of most sports movies, except for the fact that he hits a home run as the visiting team and he wins the Series...yeah...that bothered me/.
I like the "Sandlot" too, I consider it right behind Field of Dreams, which is funny since it always gets downplayed as a kid's movie, if anything people from the 50's-60's would enjoy this, since it is more of a coming of age story with sports written around it.
"Baseketball" is a guilty pleasure of mine, one of my favorite comedies, however it's not supposed to be considered a sports movie classic, I'd leave it more as a comedy.
I haven't seen "Bang the Drum Slowly" all the way through, so I can't comment there.

Raging Bull is a good movie, but depressing. Jake La Motta was completely honest about himself when he wrote the book and told Scorsese to do the same, which ended up not only being a great sports movie, but an accurate bio pic, one of the very few that stays true.

"A League of Their Own" Best sports movie EVAR! Rosie O'donnel, Madonna, Gena Davis, Tom Hanks and Directed by Penny Marshall, Shit was so cash.
Seriously, I would go with Raging Bull as a favorite of mine, but The Natural is a close second as baseball is pretty much the only sport I give two shits about.

Gotta say I didn't care for The Wrestler much. As a pro-wrestling fan (80's era) I thought I'd love it, but I actually found it kind of boring. Rourke was good, and the actual wrestling parts were interesting, but all the BS with his daughter and the stripper chick was the same stuff we've seen in tons of other movies.

I'll go with that. I loved this movie as a kid.

I like The Wrestler, but it's not like it moved me or anything...I mean some of the things Randy the Ram did just made me feel less sympathedic towards him. Rourke was awesome though, he definately deserved the Oscar.
