The February 2007 issue of EGM (number 212) features a very in-depth look at all of the major titles coming in 2007. The article itself is a great read, but the best part is that some of these games haev been heretofore unannounced.

First up is a new entry in the Guitar Hero series. According to EGM, Guitar Hero: 1980s Edition is in production and will ship sometime in the Spring (presumably alongside Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360). With the game only three to four months away (and still unannounced), EGM could only say "trust us; it's coming."

If "Talk Dirty To Me" and "Live Wire" aren't in the game, I will be most displeased.

I haven't really enjoyed Guitar Hero thus far BUT an '80s edition would be SWEET SWEET SWEET!!!

Maybe Konami can release an '80s edition of DDR too! That would make my life!

I haven't played them since the original, but I've heard that they still kick ass.

In related news, Activision recently acquired the patents for "Guitar Villain" and "Drum Villain" also:

from http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/672872/Extreme_MetalRacing.html#readmore

The world’s first exclusively death and grindcore metal themed PS2 game, Earache Extreme Metal Racing, will be unleashed unto the public on Friday, February 2.

The game features an in-game MP3 player with access to three hours of metal music including unreleased tracks, plus over an hour of video clips, including several exclusive never-before-seen clips that can be accessed during the higher levels of the game. Tracks include tunes by Napalm Death (right), At The Gates, Cathedral, The Haunted, Hate Eternal, Ultraviolence, Cult Of Luna, Beecher, Urkraft, Anata, Mistress, Severe Torture and many others.

Gamers can choose from 10 Earache Records racing teams, including Deicide, Morbid Angel, The Berzerker, Akercocke and Municipal Waste to compete on the track or the Deathmatch Arena, while killing zombies and destroying the other teams' vehicles with a wide variety of high-tech weapons. You can even score Skull tokens, which enable you to open more unlocked portions of the game, more racetracks and more unseen clips.

Earache Extreme could be cool. Depends.

Also, Guitar Villian? What's that gonna be like? Sounds pretty cool.

"Guitar Villain" revolving around metal songs sounds cool, but that name sounds silly.

I know, don't you hate that?

My vote is to change it to something sexually suggestive. Twisted Evil

I meant that a completely metal Guitar Hero sounds damn cool. The name sucks, however. Couldn't they name it Metal Hero, or something?

Actually, Harmonix will be handing the series over to Neversoft starting with Guitar Hero III.

It's also possible Activision put in for a trademark on "Guitar Villain" and "Drum Villain" just so that some other company does create them as a "rival" product or somesuch. Also, does the existance of a "Drum Villain" patent imply that Activision will develop a "Drum Hero" game at some point?

From http://kotaku.com/gaming/guitar-hero/activision-ceo-confirms-nintendo-guitar-hero-234865.php

The following official word was dropped during a businessy conference call with the CEO of Activision: Guitar Hero is coming to the Wii.

"In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero," CEO Mike Griffiths said.

There are no other details at this time: No release date and no indication of how the guitar-simulation will be carried out. My prediction: You're be able to play it with just your Wii controllers, but you'll seriously want to buy the Wii-tar.

A port on the side of the Guitar Hero 2 controller for the 360 exists that for the longest time no one was sure what it was going to be used for. It turns out that it's going to be used for seperately sold effects pedals to get your "wah-wah, fuzz and etc." on.
