A Metal Gear SOLID remake.
Seriously, dude. Your shit. Get it together.
Also, ReBirths aren't just plain ol' remakes, both Contra and Gradius were completely new games with new levels and storylines... As far as Konami games go, at least. I mean, who cares about the extended plot of Contra games? I mean, seriously.

Kojima said he wouldn't in an interview, but he'd like to see a western developer take a crack at it.

What we need is a remake treatment for Metal Gear with the same style as MGS2 or 4.

I don't understand how people cannot be completely bored with the Metal Gear storyline. That shit should have ended with Metal Gear Solid.

I can only assume people want a MG remake because they want to see how the story actually panned out. In the orignal MG and MG:SS games, they didn't involve anything about Big Boss being related to snake. The First one was just "Big Boss Runs Outer Heaven. TRAITOR!" and the second one was "I'm Not dead yet... LET'S FIGHT"
Fans such as myself are a little dissapointed by the lack of an explanation in game or anything.

Konami should remake the first Metal Gear. I mean, the remake of Metal Gear Solid for the Gamecube was epic, imagine a re-imagining of the first Metal Gear with the engine of Metal Gear Solid 4? Epic win
Another game that needs remade is Silent Hill II. Still the best game in the series, ten years and running! The story is already beyond improvement, but better, freakier graphics would be so awesome

I just played Restless Dreams after FINALLY finding a copy for the PS2 and that game holds up damn well already. I don't think it needs a remake as much as the first one did, which I'm replaying on the PSP and PS3. Besides, we can't even make a decent new Silent Hill game (Shattered Memories excluded until it's out).
Personally, off the MG ReMake topic, I'd love to see MG1 and MG2 remade within continuity as one game (separated adventures ala MGS3). I would agree with Kojima that a western company should spear head that project. Although one problem is that MGS remade a lot of MG:SS already, so a bit of rewriting needs to go in there.
All things considered though, not a whole lot of retcons happened since MG or MG:SS, but a lot could go into them.

I vote for Ubisoft Montreal to remake them.
I think they could do MG gameplay justice, since they made:
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
Assassin's Creed
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
Far Cry 2
They already have stealth (Splinter Cell Series, Assassin's Creed), Tactical (Rainbow Six series), and action (Sands of Time) down pretty well.

Agreed and disagreed.
Being a huge fan of the first game, I was extremely excited to get the 2nd when it came out, and shelled out the cash for the game and the PS2. While the beginning was alright, it lagged right after the Tanker was over. It also reused a lot of the same formulas as the first game. So I was very very disapointed when I beat it in less than 2 days. Now I waited on MGS3, and after I finally ended up getting it for Christmas, I absolutely loved it. Since it isn't a technical sequel, you didn't have to worry about all the things that weren't solved in the game. Of course, I played MGS4 and was so bored with it within 2 hours that I turned it off.
So maybe a remake of the original Metal Gear and possibly Metal Gear 2. I will also admit that I really enjoyed Snake's Revenge.

Fuck no. Ubisoft is also responsible for a metric fuckton of shovelware on the DS and stuff.

I think the Metal Gear Solid series is fantastic, and anyone who disagrees is a fucking moron.
Also, no, Ubisoft should not take a crack at it. I hate the Splinter Cell games with a passion. They're also a more 'natural' based stealth, what with all the climbing and shimmying and such. Even MGS4 is still a more 'arcade' take on the stealth genre. It boils it all down so you spend thirty minutes watching cutscenes, not hiding in the shadows waiting for a guys walking path to be exactly right.
furthermore,

HERESY! Snake's Revenge wasn't even made by Kojima and is even more glitchy then the NES version of Metal Gear...
