I've noticed some really flimsy packaging with some of the games I've bought lately. Here is a video to show more:

I seriously thought the package to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was broken when I grabbed it out of my mail box. These new packages just feel really cheap.

my theory?

oil is expensive now, you need oil to make plastic, so they are cheaping on the plastic in the cases. that's why action figures are mostly GI joe sized now.

It's for cutting back and conserving, recycling etc I don't get what the big deal is, however I will say the potential to damage the disc is increased.

That is another reason I don't like this. Something can easily pierce through the sleeve and hit the disc

They ought to go to metal or cardboard...you know...something renewable. Since plastic can't be reused, it's a waste to produce so much.

I do. I pretty much threw the cardboard boxes away, thinking they were disposable like the SNES ones.

Not a cardboard box, more like some of the newer cardboard DVD cases with a small plastic holder inside, such as "There Will Be Blood".

I was going to go into a semi rant about physical and non physical game media but meh. Quick fix, (if you don't mind going without the slime green of the 360 case) is just to swap it with some crap DVD case you own, you shouldn't have to do this having already flipped the bill for the game, but it fixes the problem.

I guess.

At least I still have all of the plastic cases for my Sega games.

I'm not a collector and never was, so I don't give a shit about the packaging. Long as the game works, I'm good.

Wow, I think I'm stretching out the word "purist." I tend to think of them simply as people who prefer to play the games on the cartridges rather than download them in emulators. Confused

Amen to that, brother. I only need the game to work before I buy it.

so I'm a purist just because my obsessive compulsive disorder won't let me have my cases not all be the same color? how does that work?

I also don't see how purism involves not wanting a bunch of discs with no cases all over the place.

That is what bothered me as well. I was thinking, if they used a design like this:

then the disc would be protected and it would use even less plastic. Even if they do that they should use thin cardboard to back-up the protection for the open spaces.

Jesus.... take the anal beads out and take a fucking joke. Saying" purists" was a friendly rib..

Jackfrost, I agree that design would have made a hell of a lot more sense (a single cross support would have worked as well if they wanted more cut out), I am not sure what the designer was thinking , unless it is a symbol for something I am unaware of and they wanted it from the get go.

Yeah, have you seen the cardboard cases the Futurama movies came in? They get completely compressed and smashed all to hell if you've got them on a shelf with all the other plastic dvd cases.
