Hey guys,
It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and cause i am that age (20 if you must know) i will probably just be given some money. With it and money i already have i intend to buy a PS3.
I have a few questions though for people who own them.
1. Did you buy your ps3 in a store or not, like how long would it take to arrive, would it likely to be damaged or anything? (generally)
2. What are some good games for the ps3? I had my heart set on an xbox til i released the games i want to play aka: Left4dead etc. could be played on my PC when i get a new one which can run it!
I know some games i want to buy and due to the price of them i can't really afford a lot of them but some i want to buy are:
Fallout 3
GTA 4
MGS4
Ghostbusters
Tekken6
Street Fighter 4
COD of some sort.
Any others to suggest?
3. I know the consoles come in different hard drive sizes and as well for internet, music downloaded stuff etc. i presume that it no longer uses a memory card. How much space does a game take up on the hard drive? I will probably get 120GB one but i just want to know. If it's anything like a game on a computer it can range from like 500MB to like 15-20GB and i don't want to run out of space even though you can probably connect an external harddrive to it?
4. Is internet connectivity like the Wii just punch in your wireless numbers and off you go?
Cheers guys.

PS3 internet connectivity is 'look for a signal' and thats that, or if you hook up an ethernet cable directly to it, then you are good to go.
the HDD size only matters if you are going to download a lot of games, or if you plan on playing online a lot. otherwise, dont worry about it. you should have enough room on any HDD to play most of the games. otherwise, you can still upgrade and get another HDD later on.
i dont have a PS3, but you can get a good deal anywhere you buy one

1. I bought from Amazon. It arrived in two days thanks to Amazon Prime. It was packed as safe as can be. It is also well packed in the actual PS3 box.
2. I'm by no means a hardcore gamer, so I only have four games for it thus far: MK vs. DC, MGS4 (WORTH IT!), GTAIV (haven't played much of it yet due to MGS4), and LOST (which I got for $10). I strongly recommend MGS4, that's a must own. The others I got because I'm a fanboy, but suffice to say I'm pleased with them all.
3. Honestly a couple hundred megs to about a gig. 120 GB is more than enough for a casual gamer. Maybe if I bought more from the PS Store I'd be in trouble, but that's not the case. PSOne games are usually less than a gig.
4. Yes. I was online in no time.

no. besides the Wii, the PS3 is the best in terms of reliability.

PS3 has been known to hypotize pets when you're not home and turn them against you. If you don't own pets, no big deal. Otherwise, huge design flaw.

Even though due to the RROD, 2nd place isn't that big a deal
But seriously, you will be fine.
If you buy online, buy from Amazon.

Alas, I have no pets and that's a bad thing.
I want a bunny.
My PS3 Home is sorely lacking in pets too.

I knew it was a bad idea when they brought Stephen King in for a consult.

PS3 is awesome. I've had mine for little over a year, and have had no problems. I bought a wireless router and connected onto the internet in no time. Only games that are super popular, have I seen any lag time on the server. Again, I'll reiterate, PS3 is awesome. I'm one of those biased gamers who claims PS3 owns 360 ten fold.

Well Mouth, I guess I'm neutral seeing as I have both. I'm not going to connect my ps3 to the internet just yet, well seeing how the recent update seemed to have fried a lot of them.

Uncharted 1 and 2, and Valkyrie Chronicles are must play titles, also do yourself a favor and get the ps3 bluetooth remote, that thing is just plain awesome if you are going to use the system as a media center as most owners eventually do. I would just buy it from a standard store, unless you can get a stellar deal somewhere online but even then the shipping is going to take a bite out of that.

1. I got mine from Sony, they shipped it perfectly fine and it was for christmas so I don't know how long it took. Plus it was like $150 cheaper if you signed up for a Sony Credit Card. That might be done for now with the price drop. I've got the 80gb completely compatible with everything system. No damage.
2. I really like ProtoType (It's like a combination of Devil May Cry and GTA.) and Batman was awesome.
3. Game saves hardly take up much space, however the installs of the games can take up as much as 4 GB piece. The good thing is once you are done playing a game you can simply delete the installed file and still have your save's and progress. You can save your save files on to an External HDD, but not the install data for obvious reasons. It likely isn't worth it unless you have hundreds of saves that you do not want to delete. Like Tebor said PS1 games are typically in the 350-700MB range. A lot of PS3 games you can download are similar in size or much smaller.
I for instance have like 26 PS1 games and about 40+ Downloaded PS3 games and I still have about 20 gb left.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Wireless and physical connections, fairly simple set-up and easy to access change, customize or test.

1. I bought mine from Walmart first day the 80gb came out
2. I'll give you a good list of games to check out,
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Obvious)
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (Was one of the must own original titles for PS3)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Amazing sequel)
Valkyrie Chronicles (Just an amazing game)
Heavenly Sword (Great Hack 'n Slash)
Resistance 2 (I thought it was meh, but a lot of people praise it as being really good)
Bioshock (Only for the trophies if you're a trophy whore kind of guy, and never played the game)
Killzone 2 (Another game I thought was meh, but people like it a lot)
Folklore (A pretty good RPG)
Little Big Planet (Might not be your style, but it's truly a lot of fun)
inFamous (Only if you are a trophy whore or never played it, but it's a really good game, tons of fun)
Prototype (A lot like inFamous, but quite different, another really cool title that's worth checking out)
Burnout Paradise (If you like racing games)
Grid (If you like racing games)
Need for Speed: Shift (If you like racing games)
Devil May Cry 4 (Pretty good game)
Borderlands (Just awesome)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Just an amazing Online and Co-Op Online game)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Maybe if you never played Ninja Gaiden 1 for the 360)
Warhawk (I hated this fucking game, but a lot of people like it)
Resistance: Fall of Man (Pretty good game)
The Orange Box (Awesome if you've never played it)
PSN Games
---------------------
Everyday Shooter (Really cool tri-cross genre game)
Fat Princess (Check it out)
Wolfenstein 3D (Definately buy it even if you don't like playing the game anymore)
Echochrome (Interesting little puzzle game that's pretty damn innovative)
Pixeljunk Monsters (Good towers clone)
The Last Guy (Kind of good Zombie survival game where you rally up people in an overhead shooter)
Linger in Shadows (Not really truly a game, more of a piece of art that you travel through and can control, but very good)
High Velocity Bowling (Really funny bowling game)
Flower (Kind of like Linger in Shadows in a way, definately a fun game where you fly around as a petal from a flower in the wind collecting other petals)
FF7 (If you like the game)
Castlevania: SOTN (Just fucking buy it dude -_-)
Syphon Filter (Good PS Classic)
Gunstar Heroes (Lots of fun)
3. I highly recommend just buying an external drive, I'd say about a terrabyte in size, and you'll be set for about 2-3 years of gaming (I get amazing deals on terrabyte drives)
4. Pretty much, or you could plug it into an extension cord that connects to the router and just have wired connection which is way easier.

Cheers for the responses guys.
I probably won't download too many PSN games anyway cause i still have my PS1 and PS2 so i can just buy them for that. I prefer to have physical copies. I will probably be getting it in the not too distant future then!
