Recommend a little known horror movie that maybe we all haven't heard of for this Halloween. Last night my wife and I watched a little gem called Witchboard.

Witchboard, filmed in 1986, why you might not have seen this: Because we were too young, as for me I was playing Gyromite in my transformer pajamas when this was in theaters. The film stars Todd Allen? Well, it doesn't really star anyone but Tawny Kitean (Of Whitesnake Video Fame). The movie is basically about Ouija boards and how when you use them they can fuck up your world. If you enjoy cheesy B-movies from the 80's then this one is not too bad. I give it 3 1/2 Tawny leg kicks on the hood of a car.

Oooooooooo Witchboard. My condolences. There's also Witchtrap which is not a sequel even though it is from the same director.

I know it's making a resurgence, but I'll throw out "Pieces" just cause I find it hysterical.

Trick Or Treat.

It's about a dead rockstar, backwards messages in rock music, and well... you've just got to see it. Ozzy and Gene Simmons have cameos.

And yet get top billing on the cover. I've seen that DVD so many times this year. Interesting...

X-Entertainment reviewed it 5 or 6 years ago. I've seen it in DVD bargain bins every Halloween since then.

And you know that's the way studios do movies like that. They buy some piece of crap from 20 years ago that has a recognizable star like Nicole Kidman in a minor part, and then they give her top billing on the box so that people will buy it.

It works. I've bought countless $1 movies because of that.

You of all people should know better! I usually look up movies on my phone to see what the deal is before I buy them now.

Oh, I never said I was tricked. I just like watching recognizable actors in their early days.

"Mazes & Monsters" comes to mind.

Try & rent anything from the ghosthouse series, some low-budget movies, but are pretty scary looking.

I think this is a different film to the one Syd suggested as it's a recent release, but I've been hearing good things about "Trick 'r Treat" which is sort of a compilation horror movie, much like Creepshow.

Also, I watched Quarantine last night which I thought was pretty good, and definitely an atmospheric blast to watch, but I love those kinds of "reality horror" movies like Blair Witch. It's based on a Spanish film called "[rec]" so you can choose to see that one instead, but the remake is pretty much identical, but with a bigger budget, so I chose that one. And it was great.

Deadtime Stories (1986)
Legend of Hell House
Warlock

BTW Trick 'r Treat was amazing, not a real scarefest but a very enjoyable movie.

What's funny about that, is I was in a Toy Fare scavenger hunt around 3 years ago and one of the items you needed to send in was a DVD or VHS movie of either robots or ninjas and double points if they have both. I had to track this movie down (as did a lot of other scavengers) and ended up paying far more than I should've. On a good note, my team finished third overall, although the prizes weren't that good.

I recommend:

Warlock = Good cheesy horror
The Pit and the Pendulum (1991) = Stars Lance Henriksen, and is a good take on the classic Poe story.

I can confirm that after just watching it tonight. It's a very fun and cool little Halloweeny anthology flick that's perfect to watch on Halloween or the night before.
