How do you make a sequel to a game that may have or may not have actually taken place?

It'd be easy if the next one took place a millennium later and the events of the first one are ill-constructed accounts of myth and folklore -- not unlike our civilization. Lots of freedom there. Basically, the only real connecting thread would be Chaos... and possibly town names and how the elf, dwarf, human, etc. towns had prospered since then.

Hey, X-2 was a pretty good game, at least, better than X imo.
At this point, I just want to see FFVI get ported to the DS as that seems to be the only way I can really get into the old school RPGs (I play my DS before bed every night) and I'd really like to see what all the hubbub is about. |
Every time someone suggests FFVI getting remade to the DS I need to change my pants...

Hmm... starting to sound a little Lufiaish. But that is a good thing.

I think I was channeling Phantasy Star, at least IV in relation to I. Sadly, I've never played Lufia -- or should that outburst come out in here?

You must play Lufia 1 and 2. They are so good. In fact, I think Douche claims them as his favorite games of all time. I would agree they are amazingly good RPGs.

Have they been ported to anything recent? I don't have a SNES and I've renounced all roms after that software crippled my old computer.

I think Tebor may have hit something... Since according to Canon, the intial Time loop is severed and therefor when the warriors of light come back the world would be completely different as to when the were there adventuring and so forth. It could be argued that the one Victory against Chaos is minor. It's also arguable that Chaos sent the fiends back before the warriors fought him, or if in thier deaths, they pulled a Stephen King and went back to the desired time. Or maybe with Chaos's defeat Garland is a good guy and the Warriors of Light could be the enemy. Or maybe I just thought about this to much and had a massive geek-gasm.

Not remade, just ported over in a similar (excellent) way they did Chrono Trigger earlier this year. I want to play the game, but I don't have the patience to play it on an emulator every day. And since I play my DS every night before bed, it's definitely something I'd like to see.

How about a game where a time-space rift causes all FF universes to be mashed together into one giant clusterfuck. You could wander out of Matoya's Cave and walk over to Midgar, jump on a chocobo and ride down to Figaro Castle.

Suck it up and play the ROMs. They aren't out in any other format (as far as I am aware).

| I'm also glad they pulled out the prequel with zack. FFVII is still my favorite game in the series besides XII, but Crisis Core is an amazing game.. |
You like FF 12 is that a common consensus I got decently far in it... but decided not to finish. I've beaten many other Final Fantasies, 7,8, 9, 10, Basically beat 5 and 6.. I think my younger brother played off a save of mine, and I just beat a last boss or something.. or he made his own save, and eventualyl got past me, then i played off his save and finished up real quick to try the last few guys. I don't recall exactly.
Speaking of such games I beat the Magic of Sherizade, and was a bit dissapointed about the difference betwen the game and my memory of it. The game is actually pretty short, and repetitive, just have to know various tricks to get past certain parts.
What else I still want to bea this wizard game.. I need to remember the proper name, basically it's kinda DnD style. You're an adventurer, I believe i was a warrior type, you can buy armor from shops, and upgrade as you gain income. Then you move like you do in the game De Ja Vu (dont' think with a hand pointer) but the screens are like that.
And I remember getting owned by osme creature in a cave lol. You can levle up and stuff. I'll look into it.. It was fun but really challenging. I'll be glad this time around i'll be using an emulator for it, I own the game.. it's just dying and having to reset... there are parts of a game where a emulator takes out of the challenge of the game, such as like original donkey kong it would, but if the game's focus is not consistently pressing certain button command at certain times, if that's not the focus, or is a small element... Then I have np with speeding things up, by exploring areas using save states, or amassing gold quickly through whatever speeding up the game speed as you farm stuff.
I also beat frankenstien NES for the first time.... And i did cheat with an emulator and with that game it is about consistency on fights and memorization, So what I did was save it before a fight and use no saves midfight, so it's more legitimate.. Still more of an accomplishment to not do it at all shows incredible consistency. But I killed each boss fair and sqaure, I just didn't have to waste as much time getting the boss each time (or worse having a game over) as the average person would.

If you have time to spare and a Wii, you can put roms into Virtual Console games. It's called "injecting" and it's kinda tricky to do. It's not dangerous or anything, tho.

Hells to the no. And everything good will get ported over eventually. I'll just bide my time and frankly I wouldn't get around to playing it for at least a year anyway.

Dude, don't wait around like that. I've been waiting for Terranigma to be ported to ANYTHING for ages.
Don't make the same mistakes I did.

Once you change the number of the story they have nothing to do with each other.
So FF1 & FF2 & FF3 have nothing to do with each other.
However, FFX & FFX-2 are related, and so are FFVI & FFVI The After Years.
EDIT: Fuck... I meant FFIV and FFIV The After Years. My bad. |
I know dude I was being sarcastic. Besides, when you think about it, ALL the Final Fantasies have SOMETHING to do with eachother. Things like chocobos, airships and the active time battle system (after IV of course) are all similar traits in the Final Fantasy games. Of course I can only speak for the games up through VIII. I haven't played any of them beyond that.

Just because I am a FFVII homer I would really like to see a game developed off the story of Advent Children to some aspect. Yea the movie was kinda meh, but it had a lot of potential, plus I like the FFVII universe better than all the other games. It's set in a modern age, kinda, with a little bit of the past, and not to much future.
Also Tebor you definitely need to play Lufia 1 & 2. I'm sure the 99% of us that use emulators could direct you to a safe site.
My only gripe with games that take place many years after a previous game is that almost nothing changes in the world, it's like they are stuck in a rut of no technological advancements.
