Well McCain just recently proposed a type of speed filter on material on the internet. I see this as a threat to the flow of free information. With this filter, companies can make purchases to allow their sites to run faster, while the other sites would be slowed. I believe in net neutrality, but I guess some do not.

If I got any of this wrong, tell me. I'm open to any ideas/corrections.

From what I understand, McCain proposed a bill called the Internet Freedom Act or Information Freedom Act or something like that, which would prevent the FCC from regulating the internet. While deregulation sounds goods IN THEORY, it is due to FCC regulation that we have the "net neutrality" that prevents ISPs from highly restricting our internet access unless we pay premium fees. ISPs want to run the internet the way that cable companies run TV, and the FCC prevents them from doing so. That means that they could charge you more to access certain sites, or might charge sites a fee to prevent them from being restricted. And it means they could conceivably enact speed filters.

I don't think McCain really understands the issue, and is pushing for deregulation under the assumption that deregulation is unilaterally beneficial. During the presidential campaign, he was asked if he preferred a Mac or a PC, and he basically said that he didn't really know, and he needed his wife's help with computer stuff. So he should probably back off on this one.

Now I can't stop picturing him and Obama shilling those shitty commercials for Mac.

I don't have a stance either way, but Snopes has a decent page on Net Neutrality here. They tend to do a good job of presenting things in a rational and unbiased way, but unfortunately I'm way too tired to make sense of the page right now.

Yeah, this did kind of stink of a weird sort of spin on terms going around. Funny how deregulation leads to a completely different, fucked up form of regulation.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Why yes, yes I am. I'm usually not "fuck da government man," but that bill just bothers me. I mean, if I want to be a terrorist in this country then I should have that right! I mean uh...
