I don't give a shit what anyone says, all of the "Vacation" movies have aged incredibly well and do NOT need a fucking REMAKE/REBOOT/RESTART.
It's gotten out of control. I can picture the cast of this rotten piece of shit:
Jeff Goldblum as the annoying insistent father
Kate Hudson as the supportive but annoyed mother
Miley Cyrus as the depressed emo child
McLovin as the overly sexual teenage boy
Kill me, please kill me.

oh god. i was hoping this was just rumor but:
| Quote: |
You may have thought that was it when Will Smith blew up the Alien mothership in the first Independence Day movie, but that's without taking into account Hollywood's inventiveness, especially Roland Emmerich's: He and Dean Devlin do have a few ideas for an Independence Day 2 movie!
Roland Emmerich is eager to develop this project, but he's encountering some surprising resistance from the studios who aren't as thrilled as us by a movie sequel to Independence Day... And that's not a rumor, it comes from Roland Emmerich's own words:
| Roland Emerich wrote: |
"Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we've found some sort of idea and we approached FOX and FOX has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean's and my deal, and Will Smith's deal. Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it's just been in negations now since forever, and naturally FOX says 'Why don't you do it without Will Smith?' I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it's in limbo and lately the studios are fighting. Like gross players, and Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who's worth his gross. So we'll see what happens. I would love to do it."
Director Roland Emmerich |
Roland Emmerich being both a business man and filmmaker I'm quite sure he will find out how to push forward with Independence Day 2. And if his script for the sequel is that good I bet Will Smith would not hesitate to get onboard.
But getting a good script may not be that easy: what could they possibly come up with? The alien mothership and its shuttles have been destroyed. Did a few alien manage go reach Earth's surface? Or is there a second wave of flying saucers from outer space with aliens coming to avenge their lost brothers and to feast on mankind?
Anyway, whatever the plot trick they will use to make Independence Day 2, I'm already sold! Bring it on!

I don't mind a new Vacation sequel. If they do it right, it could be good. But no Chase = major major fail.

My cousin in law, who keeps up with movie news, told me years ago, like a year after Independence Day, that a script for a second movie was in the works and the plot involved, i'm not kidding, the aliens alternating Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith's reproductive DNA so they will have alien babies with their respective love ones. I kept imagining something like the chest burster. I don't know if this plot thread has been scrapt or not, but for the love of Jeebus Creebus why?
Wasn't Independence Day made fun of by snarks and film critics alike. Hell, i remember an episode of Roseanne where DJ tried to break the ice with a chick by saying 'Independence Day sucked' and IT WORKED! The movie was so bad, it got the kid from Roseanne laid.
So hollywood, you have gotten SO desperate that your making sequels to the 90s now. Well, maybe if hollywood focuses on the 90s, they'll start to stray way from the 80s.

I really think if they were going to do it, they need Clark as the main character. If not, and they choose to do it with Rusty and his family, they will undoubtedly fuck it up. But if they were careful, they could potentially pull it off. To do so, I think it would require a few things.
Chevy Chase must be in the movie. And I don't mean a one minute cameo. I mean supporting cast with at least as much screen time as Randy Quaid had in the first Vacation.
Randy Quaid must be in the movie. I would prefer him to have his usual amount of screen time, but a cameo may be acceptable if the rest of the cast can carry the movie without him.
Most importantly, it can't be a pussy ass family film. It needs at minimum a PG-13 and must contain swear words, including multiple use of the word "fuck". Brief nudity is also prefered but not required.
It would be nice to see Christie Brinkley, but it's not a must.
In the end, I think it is tough to make this scenerio work becasue Rusty always seemed somewhat level headed. So I just don't see him having the same sort of funny mishaps that Clark did.

You can only say "fuck" once or twice in a PG-13 film.

I never understood that, how is only one fuck worse then say ten?
i'm not going to really be thrilled about a sequel of Independence day until more development takes place. But i'll admit, Independence day is one of those guilty pleasure movies.
