So this movie was on TCM the other night, I once again got the chance to relive this classic Cronenberg gore fest. Absolutely love James Woods and a really unique story. Anyone else like this movie? Any Cronenberg fans?

Cronenberg is hit or miss for me, but I've always liked this one. Strange, strange movie. Avoid Naked Lunch, it was terrible.

Yeah, I didn't like Naked Lunch, nor did The Brood. And was never a big fan of Scanners outside of the obvious scene. Also his version of the Dead Zone is decent, but Walken is so unintentionally funny. "The Iyce!.......is gonna break!"

Anyways, The Fly, Videodrome, and A History of Violence are all badass. I still need to see Eastern Promises, I've heard mixed reviews.

Oh...and Crash has to be one of the SICKEST movies I've ever seen. The leg... Crying

I love pretty much every Cronenberg movie, even Naked Lunch. Have not seen The Brood.

Shit guys, if you love Cronenberg, you NEED to check out a movie called "Dead Ringers."

I had a topic about it in he movie forum which I'm not going to necro because it was some time ago, but yeah. Its fucking amazing. Jeremy Irons plays a pair of twin gynecologists (don't worry, don't worry--its not gross THAT way) who gradually go insane due to the fact that a) they are insane and b) they become massive drug addicts. (That's not a spoiler.) Irons' performance is absolutely insanely good and (I would argue) a huge part of the reason he won an Academy Award the next year. (They couldn't give it to him for this movie because the Academy are uptight idiots, but even they could see how amazing this performance was.) This movie is a mindfuck in the best sense of the word, and as a bonus, its got a great commentary track with Jeremy Irons. If you have any interest in the craft of acting and/or movie effects, you owe it to yourself to rent the movie for the commentary alone. (And while you gentlemen may not get THIS kind of bonus out of it...holy shit could I listen to his voice forever.)

I think I'm bumping this to the top of my Netflix queue now because all this writing about it makes me want to see it again!

Oh yeah, as for Videodrome, absolutely insane, but very, very good. A bit stomach turning for my taste, but I'd sit through a lot worse for James Woods, who was also awesome. (As was Goldblum in The Fly, my other favorite movie of Cronenberg's.) Anyone who attracts talent like that can't be a bad filmmaker as far as I'm concerned. (Especially getting the likes of Woods and Irons, who are usually quite picky when it comes to what projects the headline.)

I bought this off of eBay a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

The Brood has an amazing scene with Oliver Reed playing a shrink, and he is in some type of group therapy session or something, and he tells one of his male patients who is crying "perhaps you would have been better off had you been born a girl!".
