I'm really excited to see this game come out. I remeber playing Baldur's Gate back in college and supposidly this is the spiritual successor to that series. Anyone taken a look at it?

I have. I've stopped short of pre-ordering the special edition for fear of a huge letdown, but I'm certainly excited. The fact that Tim Curry is in it is quite enough to sell me on giving it a try, and I'm really, really hoping its as good as it looks like it has the potential to be.

I am preying that this is Bioware's redemption, after allowing Obsidian to destroy Neverwinter Nights.

Yeah I am hoping this game has some actual substance. I played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 till my mouse fell apart.

Tim Curry alone can't save a game. Hell, his voice actually ruined the "Gabriel Knight" experience for me. Sorry, but a Brit trying to sound like he's from New Orleans is fucking stupid, obnoxious and distracting, no matter how good of an actor he may be.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own: Tim Curry is fucking awesome, and always elevates everything he has ever even glanced in the direction of.

Anyone who disagrees will be Crabbed. Oh wow! You're Morgan Freeman!

Is Dragon Age a series? Or is this the first game?

Looks like a game with two novels taken from its universe; The Stolen Throne which came out March 3rd, and The Calling which came out Tuesday.

Green Ronin is also doing a table top version of the setting, but no idea what system (Storyteller, d20, etc.) it uses.

Bioware is hoping that this will be the first in a new Franchise. This is one of the first original fantasy IPs they have ever had. (Most of their best stuff has been licensed such as D&D and Star Wars.) So they are hoping to run with this, just like what has happened with Mass Effect.

Nope, BioWare handled Jade Empire too.

Jade Empire was good, but it wasn't successful enough to become a franchise. Not like Mass Effect was.

A lot of people didn't like the two "Icewind Dale" games because they were too combat heavy but I thought those games were amazing. Beautiful backgrounds, perfect character creation and the best music I have ever heard in a video game.

And frankly, I think that was a good decision. Some stories are better told as a one-off, and Jade Empire is one of them. I really hate when someone takes a beautiful, self-contained story and then ruins it with an unnecessary sequel. The Highlander movie is a prime example of this: even if the first sequel hadn't been so absurd and they had jumped right into the third movie (which I actually liked quite a bit), it just...wasn't needed. The story was perfect on its own: Connor killed the Kurgen, won the Prize, and got the girl. Nothing about that demands any extra information, unless its some kind of flashback sequel dealing with his history or something. Them taking away the Prize from Connor is still a huge, huge sore spot for me.

Oops. Was that an off topic rant? Sorry. Confused

I've really had trouble getting into any Bioware games since Knights of the Old Republic, I love Mass Effect, but the Mako sections are so damn annoying.

No, if it did it would have Forgotten Realms somewhere on the title art. This is its own self-contained universe.

I have been watching this game for a long, long time. I knew I wanted it from day one, but this FMV trailer sealed the deal. (Even though, it doesn't show any acutal gameplay, it is the most badass fantasy battle I've ever seen.)

After a bit of consideration I'll probably pick this game up after I get Fallout 3 GOTY around Black Friday

So this came out today. So far the reviews I've read are absolutely glowing, enough so that I think I'll pick it up next week if at all possible. I might hold off for a bit in hopes of a Steam sale, but we'll see.

Also looking forward to hearing the thoughts of anyone on the forum who has checked it out.

Well, I put about 6 hours into last night. Playing Human Fighter Goody two-shoes.

PROS:

I am not disapointed. In fact, this feel more like the true Neverwinter Nights sequel. I love the epic scope of the story. The characters are interesting, even the small part NPCs. The combat is great, pausing on the fly to change tactics or cue up potions, is a life saver.

The game is gorgeous. You zoom all the way out, it looks like a modern day Baldur's Gate. You zoom all the way in, and it looks as good as just about any other 3rd person game.

Controls are good. I'm still getting used to right-clicking for every action, because that is the complete opposite of NWN.

Voice acting is some of the best I have heard.

Really digging the story so far, and I am interested to see how it plays out.

Party members. I am really enjoying the party dynamics at this point. I really like 2 of my part members, and begrugingly accept the other two. That's a good thing. If you don't care at all about them, or wish death upon them, that would be bad. I personally dislike one of the members, but at the same time realize that I need them at this point in time. Character dynamics is a good thing.

CONS:

Betrayals. Maybe it's just the origin I picked, but there seems to be a lot of double-crossing. (I won't say anymore to avoid spoilers.) If there are any more twists in next 4 - 6 hours of play, I am going to start thinking this game was written by M.Night. ("What a twist!")

AI: I have to pause combat to make my NPCs drink healing potions, because sometimes they seem too stupid to do it themselves. (Even though I placed them in the NPCs quickslots.)

Loadtimes between areas. I feel bad for the console crowd. I got this installed on my RAID 0 partition, and some of the load times still drag on.

The Knyte VGM rating: This will be a RPG classic, and the start of a Franchise. If you love traditional RPGs in the style of Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Icewind Dale, you will love this one.

I am ridiculously stoked to play this. I loved both Baldur's Gate games as well as both Icewind Dale games, so I think this will be absolutely fantastic. I'm the kinda guy who really has not gotten into PC RPG's past 2001 so will my introduction to 3D RPG's be a good one? I hope so.
