Baseball Stars had really good team/stat management, and I believe it even had a season mode. It was quite advanced for the time.
But my favorite baseball game for the NES will always be Bad News Baseball. It was simple and fun, and it was pretty. And the umpires were bunny rabbits.

What about Baseball Simulator 1000? You had special attacks for pitches and hits, like multiball, and ground shaking line drives.

Yeah, we already covered B.W. on page one.
I love how they made that shitty all-cyborg team. You know you accidentally picked them once and had to start over. CCCCCCCCC? WTF is this? Laser gun ftw.

Same here, my brother and I played the hell out of that game. I remember when those cinematics kicked in during close plays and we'd stare at the screen getting ready to celebrate/call bullshit.
1. SMB/Duck Hunt
2. Maniac Mansion
3. Goonies 2
4. Super Mario Bros. 2
5. Ducktales
6. Dr. Mario
7. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

WRONG. Maybe if you wanted to fulfill a fantasy of playing as Babe Ruth or a chick...but RBI was the best because 1986 was the apex of baseball; the Red Sox and the Mets were LOADED. |
And Base Wars crushes both of those.
Okay, um...here goes.
*inhales*
In no particular order:
River City Ransom
Castlevania II
Zoda's Revenge: Startropics II
Mega Man...3 (It's friggin' tough picking between 3 and 4)
The Guardian Legend
Maniac Mansion
G.I. Joe
Magic of Scheharazade
Super Mario Bros. 3
Deja Vu
(*head explodes*)
That was tough. I went strictly by which games I had the most fun with as a kid & which of those games I replay the most. Though I feel like gouging my eyes out for not including Ultima: Quest of the Avatar, Crystalis, and Ghoul School. And Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy. (*rest of body explodes*)

That should be a real mod . A little LCD and buttons on an NES cart and an NES-on-a-chip and you're set.

I also can't believe how many people are picking mega man 4. Mega Man 3 is still OK and better than 99% of other games out there, but 4? :whollynotimpressed:
I guess its a generation gap thing. Sliding was blasphemous enough, though it didn't entirely change the game. It added a strategic element to it. I could live with it, though a bit grudgingly. As soon as you could charge your buster, I said "Its not me, its you" and broke up with my metallic boyfriend in blue. I don't get it.

You have to keep in mind that we didn't always control what games we owned when we were younger, sometimes we had to play what we got as a gift or didn't know any better which to choose. Though a certain Megaman may be better than another, it doesn't mean it is the one we owned and played the shit out of.

I'll be totally honest, if I was stuck with your collection for a year. I'd burn it for firewood before playing them.

I played all six NES Mega Mans when I got the Anniversary Collection on GCN, I never owned any of them on NES. Out of the ones I played, I enjoyed MMIV the most, because I enjoyed it's plot, Robot Masters, music, and weapons more than the other games. The original was crap, the only good thing it has is it's nostalgia value and original Robot Masters, but even then ElecMan and IceMan were both fairly generic and boring looking to me.
To me, IV > III > II > V > VI > I.
I more can't believe that people actually liked Metal Gear on NES, that crap was cheap beyond belief and Snake's Revenge was totally the better game, you don't even get to fight Metal Gear in the NES port. Kojima himself stated that the NES port wasn't exactly what he intended, and that Snake's Revenge despite being non-canon was a good game in it's own right.
So yeah.

Good points about MM. Nostalgia is a huge motivating factor. I played the shit out of the first 3 and played 4 and 5 a few times but always thought they sucked and weren't really "mega man" to me. For me, 2 was the pinnacle. Everything about that game was sick. I guess given today's technology, I would have thought maybe everyone would have played all of them equally and would come to the same conclusion (since I'm infallible, of course).
I also agree that metal gear on NES was pretty much garbage. I definitely wouldn't put that on my desert island list. But whatever, just because you like it doesn't mean I have to.

O.K., here it goes:
1) SMB/DH
2) Dragon Warrior 3
3) Mega Man 2
4) SMB 3
5) Crystalis
6) Legend of Zelda
7) Metroid
8) Bubble Bobble
9) Dragon Warrior 4
10) Adventures of Lolo 3
I think that does it. All of these games I owned or co-owned (I remember Dragon Warrior 4 being really expensive) as a kid and I played the crap out of all these. In fact, I still play most of these on a semi-regular basis.
