Firstly i can see myself getting alot of abuse from this but i feel the points here are quite valid. I have played all the Mario Kart games, completed all them except Mario Kart for SNES which is ridiculously hard and have completed various other racing games with powerups etc. (whatever you would call them) Speed Freaks, Crash Team Racing Franchise. The reason i have mentioned the games above is because you may just discard my thoughts on this game as me being shit at it when on the contary (not to toot my own horn) i am good at games like this.
There are a number of reasons why i loathe this game. The first is when you get hit by weapons and what happens.
Mario Kart, Speed Freaks, CTR - You are in first position and get hit by a shell, rocket etc. what happens?
1. You get hit.
2. You spin out.
3. You get passed by person in 2nd
4. You maybe get passed by person in 3rd.
5. You start driving again in 2nd or maybe 3rd place.
This is not the case for Mario Kart Wii. Lets take the same idea that: You are in first position and get hit by a shell, rocket etc. What happens?
1. You get hit.
2. You spin out.
3. You get passed by person in 2nd who crashes into you.
3. You DO get passed by the person in 3rd who crashes into you.
4. You get hit by another shell.
5. The person in 5th passes you and crashes into you.
6. The person in 6th passes you and crashes into you.
7. You get bumped off the edge by person in 6th
8. You are getting lifted back onto the track whilst this happens 7th, 8th and 9th pass you.
9. You are back on the track to then get hit by another shell.
10. Person in 10th passes you crashing into you.
11. Person in 11th passes you and crashes into you.
12. You are now in last position.
Now i wouldn't give two shits if this happened once in a blue moon but this happens EVERY FUCKING TIME and this is only against the CPU, online it is 10000 times worse and in no other game i have played is it that bad or that fucking ridiculous.
Point 2: the wii remote/wheel. Now i know this is the whole point of the console to use the wheel but it is so fucking shit. The sensitivity of it is ridiculous its nearly impossible to drive in a perfectly straight line and this hasn't happened to me personally but i've seen other people playing who have tried turning and it has fucked up and they have ended up going the other way. Of course at this point i get out the gamecube controller and stick it in but of course it has limitations that you can't turbo power slide with it, you can't do tricks in the air with it and on the bike you can't do the wheelie which leaves you at an extreme disadvantage.
..and the whole tricks in the air is fucking stupid. Take for example i was playing bowsers castle 3 - GBA or whatever its called yesterday with the wheel. So you all know the bit with the yellow lined jumps. So i am coming up to it just driving i go over the jump hit the side of the track and fall into the lava...
Why can i not just go over i am going as fast as the game fucking allows me to go and i didnt feel like flinging my arms into the air like a fucking moron every time i come to one so i can get higher.
Also speaking of boosting earlier is it not slightly unfair when playing online that the people who use automatic and the people who use manual are lumped together? Automatic = no boosting
Manual = boosting.
So people who play manual automatically are at the advantage. I play on Automatic due to the fact that its a fucking chore to boost.
Seriously there is so many reasons why i think this game sucks but i couldn't be assed writing more.

It's been awhile since I played this, but aren't there 16 racers per race, making 16th last place?
However many it is, it's too many. At any given point, someone always has the Star. At any given point, someone has lightning. At any given point, someone has a Blue Shell. What this means is that you are CONSTANTLY getting hit with stuff. On top of that, the AI is elastic, so even if you manage to avoid getting hit and take a huge lead, the computer will put the guy in second place right behind you at the last second, and you'll get hit by a blue turtle shell that the guy in 10th place had, spin out and end up in 5th place. On top of THAT, coming in first place in a circuit via points isn't enough. There's a bullshit ranking system based on your completion time, and that's what unlocks stuff. Oh yeah, and light characters are useless now, because they no longer get a speed advantage over non-track surfaces.

Yeah there is like 15/16 i honestly can't remember cause i haven't played against CPU in a while but i couldn't be bothered writing an explanation up to 15/16 places. I thought up to 12 sufficed at getting my point across.

Well it's a complete fucking mess with 16. Double Dash had 12 cars per race and that was still mildly fair. 16 guys means that you can't go more than 10 seconds without getting hit by lightning.

Man, I hated DoubleDash, and when I saw the roster for this game...I decided to not pick it up since it looked ridiculous.
They give us Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Dry Bones Bowser, etc...
Yet...they couldn't use this opportunity to give us Kamek, Tatanga, Wart, Donkey Kong Jr, hell...even the Koopalings would be cool. No we get fucking babies

Eh, all the classic guys are there still though. And really, who the fuck cares who you're racing as? And I think DK Jr. has been retconned out of existence by DKC.

I loved Double Dash....it's miles better than MKWii in terms of a modern day Mario Kart, though I can see some people disliking the gimmicky two-man kart deal.

Really? I thought that Cranky Kong was the old Donkey Kong (i.e. from DK and DK Jr.) and that DK Jr. is now Donkey Kong that's used in all of the new games. I think I read that somewhere.

Most people, including myself believe that to be true. DK Jr. was only in Mario Tennis 64 after DKC, for whatever reason.

Even though all those points you brought up are valid, I still got some good enjoyment out of it, and I even liked it better than Double Dash which I didn't care much for. Mario Kart 64 though, was, and still is the best Kart Racer I've ever played.

I never liked MK64's graphic style, even when I was only eight years old and that game was new it still looked ugly and outdated, plus it had the weakest Rainbow Road course of all-time.
So yeah, not a fan of obvious 2D sprites in full 3D backgrounds...

I have to admit, even though I like Mario Kart Wii, there are plenty of problems with that game.
The first problem I have is the rubber-band AI. I know you all mentioned it already, but I still feel the need to rant about it because of the next reason. . .
The second problem is the fact that Nintendo forced us to get a good ranking on certain cups to unlock certain characters. This normally wouldn't be such a fucking problem, but the rubber-band AI makes this a HUGE problem. For example, you have to get at least a one-star ranking in all 100cc Retro Cups in order to unlock Bowser Jr. I can't even begin to tell you about all of the stress I had to go through just to unlock him, what with getting nailed by a Spiny Shell (AKA the "Blue Shell") on the last lap of damn near every race. It's even worse when you want to unlock Dry Bowser, which is achieved by getting one-star on all 150cc Wii Cups.
Seriously, if there wasn't rubber-band AI in that game, that wouldn't be such a problem, but since there is, it is.
The last problem is the fact that the battle settings are neatly tucked away in the vs. and battle options, apparently as an afterthought. I mean, come on, I only want to battle my friends, not the damn computer. If I want to battle the computer, I would add one or two computer players, but I wouldn't have all sixteen.
Also, I hate the fact that battle mode is entirely a team thing. I already miss the days when battle mode is entirely free-for-all. But then again, Mario Kart 64 probably had the best battle mode.

Oh man, I remember when DK Jr. was in the original Mario Kart. This was because that game predated Donkey Kong Country.
I actually downloaded Donkey Kong Jr. on the Virtual Console partially because of that. That guy needs to be in another adventure.
Oh, and pardon the subsequent post.

The first time I played Mario Kart Wii, I felt physically violated by the number of shells I was hit with. After a few races, I immediately went back to Mario Kart 64.

Well, to me...it just shows laziness on Nintendo's part. Do we REALLY need baby versions of people? They have such a large library of unused characters, so why eat up 1/3 of the roster with rehashes?

All the guys you mentioned would have been medium characters, I think the goal was to add more light characters.

I know a couple of the Koopalings could've been lightweights, and they could've as easily bumped a couple of other regular characters down to lightweight.
It's like this, look at Waluigi. He was introduced I think in Mario Party 3. I was intrigued by this guy and curious to see what his future was for games. But he's never really done anything to merit my admiration, so why would I want to play as him? And yet, people were clamoring to include him in Brawl, which I don't understand because he sucks.

He was actually introduced in Mario Tennis on the N64, because Wario needed a doubles partner and Nintendo is lazy.

People think Waluigi sucks, because Nintendo refuses to do anything with him besides make him be in spinoff games. I like the guy, but I just wish Nintendo would stop ignoring his existence elsewhere.

Yeah, it's not like the guy doesn't have potential. He just hasn't been in any actual storyline.

I hate Waluigi. However, if they ever made a Super Wario Bros. game for the DS or WiiWare, I would fucking be all over that.

Or he could be the antagonist in a new Wario Ware game, because he's pissed that he's never actually been in a "real" game.

Fuck Wario Ware. He should burn the Wario Ware building to the ground and beat Wario within an inch of his life. When Wario recovers, he remembers what's really important in life: money, punching stuff, and antagonizing Mario.

I'd like to see Super Mario Land 3 DS, with Wario being old and crazy again. Or maybe just a Wario Land II remake, I dunno.
