I was wondering if anyone knew any good Sci-Fi RPG's preferably for the PC, but I won't argue with other systems, that aren't the obvious ones like Mass Effect and KOTOR. Thanks in advance. Smile

What about that one with Charles Barkley? Ask FNJ, he knows.

Septerra Core is Sci-Fi, it's pretty alright. I'm sure there are a few dozen mods for the original NWN that are.

If you can put up with FPS games, you could try System Shock, System Shock 2, Strife, or Deus Ex. My knowledge of the other Sci-Fi RPG's is limited to KOTOR and the ones distributed on game consoles, like that Buck Rogers game on Genesis.

The original four Phantasy Star games, moreso 2 through 4.

The Final Fantasy Legend games are sci-fi, to an extent (the third one more than the other two).

Both Parasite Eve games.

Oh, and Fallout 3. Duh.

Maybe Crystalis counts.
Mass Effect might count too.

I've heard a lot of good things about the game and I'll check it out.

I've beaten all the games you've mentioned, save for Deus Ex which was a game I really didn't like. Not cause it was overrated or anything, it just wasn't a game that was interesting or good to me, and I wouldn't really consider the Buck Rogers game an RPG.

I've played PS4 for a while, and it was good, I still have to beat it though. PS2 I've never played, but I've heard it was really good. How are the Final Fantasy Legend games Sci-Fi? Parasite Eve, I'll check out, and Fallout 3, was a great game up until the ending which sucked.

Crystalis I have beaten many times, and I said no obvious games like Mass Effect, I've played that game a bit, and I lost interest in it.

I've beaten them all already, and in the past year as well.

I've heard of Fallout being the spiritual successor to Wasteland, so I'll definately give it a try.

PS2 is phenomenal, and don't forget PS3. Final Fantasy Legend isn't sci-fi to begin with, but soon becomes sci-fi when you get to the third world, and how are the second and third games not sci-fi? You NEED to get on Parasite Eve, it's definitely in my top five favorite games. And yeah, Fallout 3's ending sucks, that's why you get Broken Steel.

Technically, all fantasy games are sci-fi. But I won't be the guy

Technically, I thought it was all Sci-Fi games are Fantasy. At least that's how I always knew it.
Fantasy in which we know it which would be called High Fantasy, which is like Elves and Orces, and Sci-Fi is kind of a sub-section of Fantasy that is more Scientific and more possible.

I'll check out PS3 as well, I've only beaten PS1, and I've never played FFL so I wouldn't know, and Broken Steel I'll check out I guess, never heard of it though.

Broken Steel is an expansion pack. It's definitely the best one IMO, it not only extends the game past the original ending but lets you level up to lv. 30.

It might be a pain to run on a PC nowadays, but if you can become friends with DOSBox, you will have one of the most amazing Sci-Fi experiences of your life playing System Shock and System Shock 2. (The original System Shock has a lot of distractions in terms of rather bad controls and interface, but its well worth the effort to overcome.)

It you like a huge dose of horror with your sci-fi, you could do no better than "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream." Worth the price of admission both for the abject mindfuckery, and Harlan Ellison's performance as AM. (Do yourself a favor and read Ellison's story of the same name before playing the game though. You'll appreciate it--and his performance--a lot more.)

This is going way retro on you, but if you emu, check out "Out Of This World." Simply incredible. Possibly one of the 100 best SNES games of all time, even.

In the same retro vein, Albion might be the most amazing sci-fi RPG journey you ever take. It stands the test of time in the way few other games do imho, and I'd put it up against any blockbuster game today with confidence in spite of the graphics/interface issue.

Despite what you said in the OP, I do want to throw in a plug for Mass Effect. Awesome game. Bioshock is too. Have yet to play the Fallout series myself, but have heard amazing things about it. (Its on my list.)

"Albion" by Blue Byte software.

I remember playing the demo and the game was pretty damn awesome, but that was like seven years ago. You might want to give it a chance.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.

I actually own System Shock 1 and 2, and have a computer specifically for old games, but I've mentioned earlier in the thread that I've beaten them both. I might run through them again. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream I'll check out, I love the story, so it should be good. Out Of This World I've beaten, but I don't own it, it was a good game. Albion I'll check out because it's been vouched by you and another person. Mass Effect is average at best in my opinion, and I wouldn't really consider Bioshock an RPG or a Sci-Fi game, it seemed more like a Historical Fiction game to me, but it is awesome.

I was honestly wondering when someone was going to mention the four Xeno- games (Gear and then the three episodes of Saga [the 2nd ep is the least fun due to a shit combat system]).

I'll also throw the Front Mission series into the mix, although it's more of an RPG like Final Fantasy Tactics is (turn-based strategy).

Aw I loved Mass Effect. Oh well, different strokes, I guess.

Sorry about missing the System Shock reference lol. I must have glanced over it without it registering or something.

I hear you on Bioshock. I guess in retrospect you're right, its not an RPG. I wouldn't call it historical, though, although period piece might fit. I do think the advanced underwater city and genetic enhancements qualify it as at least rudimentary sci-fi.

I guess an advanced underwater city and genetic enhancements could be considered Sci-Fi, but it's a Historic Fiction because it's set at a certain time in the past which is considered history, and it never happened or isn't exactly true, so it's fiction. Maybe it's a Historic Fiction with Sci-Fi elements?
