You see, I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after I had a short breakdown back at college some days ago. I found myself having some strange delusions, not speaking coherently and even punching the walls and stranding myself from any company. In the following days I had more of these, then my parents took me to the psychiatrist and I just got the diagnosis.
I don't mind having this, as long as people don't find me a weirdo whenever I have any breakdown (usually following a stressful or extremely dissapointing episode, according to the doctor). Only two people, besides my parents, know about this, and one of them is a girl from college I like. After the whole episode, I'm afraid she won't see me the same way again. I'd appreciate any tips from you people; do I need to take any medication? I also have chronic depression, so I don't know what would I do in this case, since the doctor didn't specify any prescripted medications. And what else do I need in order to put all of this under control?

I'm no doctor, so I wouldn't be able to help you, but cool story, bro!
Also, this girl will like you as you are, if not someone else will....
Also, don't listen to the voices......

Welcome to the club: Mild Paranoia.

I use to take Respiradol to calm me down, but I just ended up too damn tierd to do anything. I was a freshmen in high school when I was diagnosed. I mean every time I walk outside I look over my shoulder, every time I'm talking with someone I'm thinking about what they truly mean.

exp:

me: You look nice today.
Girl: Thank you, so do you.
What I think she means: Dude I know I look good, but look at your crustie ass. Eww, get away from me.

It sucks, second guessing what everybody else is thinking and saying. Then I started worrying about shit like NwO,FEMA all that other ish and it further just kept destroying my mind. I deal with it by calming down tell myself it's gonna be ok, just relax. My medcine of choice is music (It, really helps me) and being around good friends and just laughing trying to be a regular teenager and it helps. I know longer worry about shit I can't control (Through I am aware of it) I just take it all one day at a time. Writing scripts helps anything I can use my mind to create something.

Now for this young lady, why don't your bring it up in a conversation, hear what she has to say(if she thinks those type of people are freaks, then dump her ass) if you like her response then just tell her that's what you are going through.

Good luck brah.

ummm, how about a new Dr.? Your doctor should have gone over these items at length. I feel like you have medical questions that should be answered by someone who is qualified. Our personal thoughts and experiences may vary from yours and some of the information could be damaging if it doesn't match your case. Seeing a doctor can be intimidating because you have to disclose so much personal information to a stranger. Make a list of any questions you may have ahead of time so you don't forget anything that you need to know.

Also, don't pursue the girl until you have a good grasp and understanding on your situation, it wouldn't be fair to her if you don't even know what your dealing with. Good luck

Chile,

You should not be seeking medical advice from this group. If you want to hear stories, that is one thing, but don't take our experiences as anything more than other individuals sharing their own situations.

The only one who you should talk to about this with intent to learn or attempt to fix your mental disorder(s) is a Dr.

I went through a mild anxiety problem a few years ago where I'd have panic attacks for no reason while sitting in class, or pretty much anywhere outside of my house, and I took medication to teach myself how to deal with it.

My point is, if I needed medication for a mild anxiety, you definitely should be asking your doctor about meds for paranoid schizophrenia and most definitely for depression. We live in an age now where these kinds of disorders are completely understood, and people don't have to suffer with these kinds of brain imbalances anymore because of advancements in medication.

So you should be pestering your psychiatrist and making sure he's on top of things regarding your condition. If he says you don't need medication, then you know for sure.

Well, good job on accepting it and being aware. That's usually the first step to helping yourself. First tip: Make your problem known, but don't try to get sympathy points. If people really cared about you, they'd do it without sob stories or you feeling down about yourself. Using your problem to get attention is only going to kill your self-esteem in the future. It's really the biggest experience nugget I can give you. Good luck.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Umm, the doctor doesn't really sound on top of his game. I mean, he /should/ reccomend medications, but beyond that, speaking incoherently (Disorganized speech) automatically rules out paranoid schizophrenia, doesn't it? It would only leave the door open for Disorganized Schizophrenia or Undifferentiated Schizophrenia. And if you also suffer chronic depression, then he should have inquired about this at great length, If you are only psychotic during a depressive episode, then you're diagnosable as Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Features, if you're depressed both during and not during psychosis, then you'd be diagnosable as Schizoaffective Disorder, Depressive Type, and I can't think of it off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure there's another diagnosis if you're only depressed after a psychotic episode. Not calling your doctor's judgment into question... well, I guess I am, but I'm just saying that if he isn't even reccomending any medication, maybe he's not the best doctor out there.

Seroquel. It's an anti-psychotic used to treat paranoia and schizophrenia. I'm on 200mg a night, and it's done wonders for me. Ask your doctor about it, see if you can't get him to give you some.

I used to be manic depressive and had to take a medication everyday for nearly three years. I feel better, and usually don't have to take the medication, but I still know how mental illness feels. Send me a message if you want to talk about it.

Not to seem like an obnoxious Eaglelander Asshole, but he's in Brazil. The quality of health care may not be up to the same standards we expect in the US or Canada.

I used to be paranoid until someone pointed out, "You really think the world gives enough shit about you to constantly watch and judge everything you're doing? Get over yourself buddy!".

Thanks for the advice mom. Sad Razz

I'd like to thank all of you, very honestly. Some tips here are very, very useful for me in the future, especially concerning any social interactivity I might have. About medication, I should ask the doctor about them. I only hope I don't become an addict and hit the bottom.

It lasted for about 30 minutes, followed by the rest of the night pretty much sulking and trembling.

For a diagnosis of Schizophrenia, you need to be frankly psychotic with either two psychotic symptoms or a voice that constantly comments on your actions, or two or more voices that talk to each other for a month, with psychotic symptoms (two I think, like lack of volition and flattend affect, for example) in attenuated form for six months, with you being frankly psychotic for one of those. If you're psychotic for somewhere between a week and a month, it's Schizophreniphorm Disorder, and if you're psychotic for less than a week, it's a Brief Reactive Psychosis.

With everything you've said, I really doubt that you actually have Paranoid Schizophrenia, though it probably is a psychotic disorder of some sort and does need looking into. I'd be very concerned and would try to get a second opinion, were I you.

Hmm, then this diagnosis migh have been too hasty to be taken. As a matter of fact, last time I ever had such a breakdown was three years ago, and I can't recall if I heard any voices. Well, I should be more careful about my mental state from now on. Thanks a lot!

Schizophrenia isn't real. It's a lie made by the government to get certain people to take randomly colored pills so the government can track their every move. This Is A Joke

I use to have bad cases of depression every once in a while, but I DO joke about it. I don't know what would be of me if I lose my humor, cause, I gotta tell you, when I'm down, it's not a pretty sight...
I'm afraid of taking things too serious, because reality catches up with me and I get depress. but talking about my problems helps me recognize them, and work on them. So until I can fix my problems, I'll just try to not let them be a part of my life.
