At least that is what I did today.
I was reading some articles online and came across one about the rarest and most valuable Playstation games. While reading the list, I realized I owned most of them. So, I took 10 of them in (To a good private owned Video Game store that specializes in all videogames, from Atari up), and scored straight across for a Xbox 360 Pro system, Fable 2, The Legend of Spyro (for my wife), and All Pro 2K8 (Fuck Madden).
Not bad.
And, before you all start yelling and bitching at me for parting with such treasures:
A> I only keep and collect old games to play, and I can play all of those via emulation now.
B> They are people out there who will want them far more than I do.
C> Since the economy sucks, I didn't want to wait months on end to find a private buyer for all of them.

Very nice, I've been thinking of doing that with my NES, SNES and Genesis because of emulation, except I wouldn't get nearly as much as you did.

I sold most of my NES games a few years ago when I needed dough. I thought about it, and playing the games was the thing that made me nostalgic, not owning them. I am a nostalgia freak, so it was hard for me to do. Since emulation is so easy I don't miss them that much.

probably as good a time as any to sell the rare ps1 games for profit, since Sony more less said recently no reverse comparability in the future period. It is pretty much a guarantee they are going to release the bulk of best games them over PSN. Unless it is a crap game I can't bear to part with it, I did that with xenogears and have regretted it ever since.

The Games I sold:
Suikoden II (The most valuable of the lot)
Ogre Battle Limited Edition
Tactics Ogre
Valkyrie Profile
Persona I & II
Final Fantasy VII (Black Label)
Xenogears (Black Label)
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete (4 Disc version)
Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete (Fat box collector's edition)
Also, most of these games I bought used way back in the day, and paid maybe $30 max for any of them.

Yeah, I got a check for one, from one of "Pick 3 of these three deals and get a Xbox". Instead of them sending me one or a voucher for one, they sent me a check for $300, which I ended up spending on stuff other than a Xbox.

How much did you get for Suikoden II, Final Fantasy VII, and Lunar I and II. I am tempted to sell them if they are worth enough.

well by ebay standards depending on condition : Lunar 1,2 $50-$75, Suikoden 2 $75- $150, FF7 as a guesstimate I would say $50 -$80, again I am talking about ebay and price is very dependent on quality. Hell the strategy guide for suikoden 2 goes for at least $50 bucks, so don't forget those books are collectible as well.

Speaking of rare games, if this list is accurate (and I think it is, considering I've seen these games listed under these prices elsewhere), people are stupider than I ever imagined possible. Who here would pay $200 for sonic, especially when u can buy it on Xbox live? Mutters to self damn, why didn't i buy that off my friend for $5 when he offered it to me?

The $200 version is the U.S. release of the Master System game, which is very different from the Genesis game.
I would imagine that while not SUPER valuable, a complete copy of Super Mario Bros. 1 is worth a decent amount. I have never seen a copy that wasn't a multicart.

How about a factory sealed retail copy of Sonic 1 for the Genesis? The pack-in version came in a sealed box, but said Not For Retail Use or something like that on it.

I've seen it go for up to $200 sealed, however you have to remember that Sonic was not only a pack in game. The first pack in with the Genesis was Altered Beast, so Sonic was fairly common as far as sealed retail copies go.
The big money NES games, new & sealed. (Go for about $1000 each)
Zelda I + II
Contra
Castlevania
$500-750 =
Final Fantasy
Bubble Bobble
Dr. Mario
Mega Man
$250 - $500 =
Mega Man 2 - 4
Bionic Commando
Rygar
King's Knight
Rad Racer
$100-$250 =
TMNT 1-3
1943
Donkey kong
Lolo
Ninja Gaiden

Well, remember also that the early NES packages came with sealed, boxed retail copies of the pack-in games. But the NES didn't really hit its stride til the SMB/Duck Hunt dual cart.
The Genesis, too, was not popular in America until the Sonic pack-in and the aggressive marketing campaign that followed on its heels.
Also, you left off Dragon Warrior IV.

How much different is the used PS1 market from the NES/SNES market? I get pennies basically for my NES/SNES games at local stores.

I hope you goto hell... I've been looking for Suikoden II for the past 6 years and you trade it in for an X-Box 360? It alone is worth $150 on Ebay. Asshat...
Lunar 2 I could have gotten that but I failed to and I'm only pissed off about it slightly.... BUT NOT AS FUCKING MUCH AS SUIKODEN II....

Well, I say congrats Knyte. If you did what makes you happy and you got what you wanted out of the deal, good for you. I hope the new system/games makes you happy.
On another note, I had to do a similar thing with all of my old consoles and NES/SNES games. I had to do it for money though, which really sucked. I'm so, SO happy I have emulation, or I think I would still be crying. Thank god for emu <3.

I would gladly cut you a deal. Let's negotiate. I am willing to trade if you don't have the money. PM me with what you are willing to part with.

I'll keep it in mind... I'm just to pissed off right now about his mis-handling of such a great game...

I agree that Suikoden II is a masterpiece of Playstation gaming, however I believe he said he's not a collector and he can easily emulate it if he wanted to play it again. I sold mine for $175 on E-Bay.

The only reason I'm keeping my N64 and Saturn is because they'd be hard to emulate on a middle end PC. I have no qualms selling my Genesis and Master System games and playing them by emulator.

Exactly. It runs perfect via emulation now, so if I wish to go back and play for the 5th time (I thinks), I can.
And also, before I sold them, I made sure I had backup images of them. /Spoiler
