Whatever your opinion of the man, or the music..it is inconsequential. To have dead rock stars in games that can play any music other than their own is a pretty pathetic attempt at publicity and profit.

Well, here's the thing: In Guitar Hero III, Bret Michaels would come out and sing "Talk Dirty To Me" (except in the Wii version) whenever you played it. Since Guitar Hero III was only a guitar game, and there was no player-participation vocal track, you couldn't make Bret sing other songs. However, Tom Morello and Slash both were both unlockable characters in the game, and you could use them as your in-game avatar and make them play songs that they otherwise wouldn't ever play. For example, you could make Morello play the aforementioned Poison song.
When the decision was made to put Cobain in GH5, of course they made him an unlockable avatar. There was really no other option.

Sorry didn't mean to degrade the topic with the shit fest that is currently surrounding the Cobain thing, I am sure it is a good game for the most part although possibly lacking in the range of music this time around I have generally looked favorably on the past game releases (excluding the 80's rock pack), but this kinda hit a nerve with me, not that I am the biggest Nirvana fan in the world but the music did speak to me growing up with it in my mid to late teens, but irregardless in the end it is just another reason for me to hate and despise Love I guess, no big surprise there.

One of the main complaints about this game has been that there's too much diversity.

Me at least I like some diversity as long as they are quality songs, and whether they are or not is always debatable according to personal tastes I guess. Generally what I have heard from friends is it is good, yet somewhat lackluster. I can't really crap on it or promote it too much since I haven't played it, maybe sometime down the road I will give it a rent.
On another note: So now a DJ game in the same vein as Guitar Hero, Rock Band, etc is releasing soon. God the plastic peripherals from these games are forming mini-mountains all across the world as we speak.....I know i got a good size hill of one growing in my house lol

Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
Pronunciation: \ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912
nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

The point was that Slash and Morello were ALIVE and willing to contribute their avatars. Courtney, in all of her wisdom and dignity, decided to sell her dead husband's image, and Neversoft in all of their wisdom and respect decided he should be allowed to dance around to a Blink-182 song. It was just such a marketing ploy, and messes around with one of the most pivotal artists of his decade, and should have been handled with a little more dignity.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

Well, I think it serves as a good, albeit hard lesson for people who might be having suicidal thoughts. For many, suicide isn't just about ending what they perceive to be the intolerable agony of existence, it's about punishing those around them. It's about making others feel guilty for ignoring you or not treating you nicer. It's about getting attention, even though you're not there to enjoy it. This is not always the case, and it may not have been the case with Kurt Cobain, but it is sometimes the case.
If Kurt Cobain were still alive, he could have told GH5 to fuck off. But he killed himself, so too bad. This is the message we need to be sending. There is nothing glorious, heroic, or romantic about suicide. If you kill yourself, you won't get respect. You won't get dignity. You'll be turned into a fucking joke. And it's a good lesson.

Umm, if Kurt had bipolar disorder, which he most likely did, he wasn't killing himself for sympathy. Bipolar disorder results from disturbances in the areas of the brain that regulate mood. That dude had problems.
