Everybody celebrate! Yes, today, the Dreamcast turns ten years old.

But seriously, the launch of the Dreamcast was one of the most memorable in my life, even since the 7th generation. The ad campaign was brilliantly handled.

I guess discuss your fondest Dreamcast memories here. Now let's play Powerstone damnit!

EDIT: also this is interesting..

The silhouette for this new game looks very similar to the classics, heres to hoping for the best!

I once made a Dreamcast logo animation on my original Gameboy Camera, it was very badass.

About Dreamcast:

It was too young to die/too awesome to live.

About Sonic HD:

Boo-urns if it's based on the original, woo if it's based on Sonic 2, and if it's based on Sonic 3 & Knuckles....well I'll just need to change my pants.

I fondly remember getting my dreamcast for free from FuncoLand. Phantasy Star Online came out and my boss demanded I get it. When I said I couldn't afford a DreamCast he said "You can have the Arcade unit." I traded in some games got Phantasy Star and a keyboard. Most memorable 100's of hours of my life. I really want the gamecube compilation but can't pull the trigger.

Also Soldier of Fortune was fucking sweet.

Video game console anniversaries are kind of a moot point since they "die."

I always wanted the Dreamcast, but I was 9, and my dad bought all the systems, and we could choose either a PS2 to replace our PS1 which I may have burnt out playing Final Fantasy Tactics for 10 straight hours, or the Dreamcast, and Final Fantasy beat Sonic with a stick...
I did get pretty close to beating Sonic Adventure on the demo machine at Sam's Club, then they took all the demo systems away

In 1999 I was stationed in Japan with the Marines, so I was smack dab in the middle of video game heaven. I got the PS2 and Dreamcast before they were released here and spent most of my time on the DC. A truly awesome system that still holds up today. I still play it quite often and if you're a fan of 2-D Fighting, it doesn't get any better than the Dreamcast. Happy B-Day to the machine that brought me home from overseas broke and addicted to Phantasy Star Online, cue the Prince song...

Another reason I think it failed as far as sales was that it didn't an option to play DVDs. At the time a standalone DVD player was still a good $200. The PS2 was both a game console and a DVD player. People decided to buy the PS2 and get both for the price of one as opposed to buying a Dreamcast and a DVD player.

I still love my Dreamcast and it is a shame how it failed right when Sega got it right.

Dude, Skies of Arcadia still owns my god-damned life now. And looking back, I missed how colorful and bright a lot of the games on it were.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

How much did it cost you? I got mine at a Half Price Books about 4 years ago for $15, then I saw another copy there last month for $62

The PSO1/2 compilation for GameCube tends to go for a lot because you can use it to set up a fake server. This could be used to burn ROMs of GCN games, and to run ROMs as well. If you plan on getting a copy of PSO1/2 to do this, make sure it is the original version and that it does not say Plus anywhere on the box.
