Xbox 360 Pricing Changes
$299.99 - Xbox 360 Elite (was $399.99)
$249.99 - Xbox 360 Pro (was $299.99) while supplies last, is no longer in production.
$199.99 - Xbox 360 Arcade (was $199.99)
Still, for me the exclusion of the two features I would use the most on a console make this price cut insignificant.
* No Blu-Ray Development in favor of Microsoft's Xbox Live content.
* No web browser.
I'll stick with my Windows 7 PC loaded with Steam, Hulu, and Boxee.
Edit: Fixed Blu-Ray spelling error. Thanks Syd.

Blue-Ray would never be as good as Blu-Ray.
And Blu-Ray is Sony technology. Why the fuck would Microsoft want to give Sony money? And console web browsers are retarded. You already HAVE a fucking computer. There's no need for it on a console.
As for HD movies via XBox, they have Netflix.
If you want a fucking gadget, you have one. It's your PC, good for you. But a console is a gaming machine. Shut up and stop whining.

Question: Can the X360 display movies in 1080P through the streaming Netflix?
In other words, in spite of the absense of a Blu-Ray player, can you still watch Blu-Ray quality movies on it?

Thank you, I was going to post basically the same thing.
I'd agree with the first post if it was more of something like:
*Reliable hardware that doesn't sound like it's held up by a lawnmower engine
*Free online

I have neither HD nor a wireless XBox adapter, so I have no idea. But if the console is HD-ready and your TV is also HD-ready, I would assume so.

It depends on how strong your connection is. If it is real strong than you will get a sharp HD image (fairly sure its 1080p), it will adjust in quality if the connection suffers.
I dunno I still think I am gonna go with a PS3. I cannot say no to one for $300. Although it is shocking to see the pro model retail for the same as the Wii.
Why aren't they phasing out the Arcade edition?

I'm thirding this. What the fuck do you need a web browser on your game console for? Are you so lazy that you can't turn 30 degrees to the right and use your computer?
Also, I don't give a shit about blu ray. I spent forever getting my DVD collection together and I'm not switching formats anytime soon.
If I didn't already have a 360, I'd be pumped that the elite is down to 300

I am a huge PC gamer, but even I want to get another Xbox 360, and now that the Elites are $300, I probably will. I had a PS3 for awhile, but when I got rid of it, I haven't missed it once.

I'll be honest guys, Blu-Ray is nice, but it's not like it should be a deal breaker.
I too have a HUGE DVD collection, and am not about to go and buy all my movies again, especially when most of my movies don't even look better in Blu-Ray because tehy weren't shot in a higher resoloution to begin with. I mostly limit myself to buying new releases that I think will look nice. I'll spend thirty bucks on watchmen or Coraline, but I won't spend thirty bucks on Indipendence Day or The Matrix, no matter how digitally remastered they might be. I certainly wouldn't buy Star Trek, Rocky, or Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray either.

Pretty sure I am going to get the PS3 slim in like a week or so, hmm. I personally haven't had a current gen console of my own (outside of my Wii) for this entire generation and am just dying to get on board.
I was waiting forever for this inevitable price cut, the fact that it coincided with the introduction of the slimmer model was essentially the icing on the cake, a deal I could not refuse, if you will.

I always like when a PS3/PSP kid goes online and posts, "Well, I can hook my PS3/PSP up to my toaster online, and toast bread in my UMD drive," or something like that. And doing sweet things with your game consoles is pretty awesome, but how are the games?
I guess this would be a good time to ask this- some asswipe destroyed my 360 (won it at a free raffle, so no cost to me). Are the Elites any more reliable than the regular ones that I hear about red-ringing?

The PS1 has an incredible library, the PS2 has an incredible library, and now that the PS3 is getting to that point that a wider array of developers can make games for it, I feel that it too is bound to inevitably have a very incredible library. Also, I liked what Sony is doing with motion capture and control more than what Microsoft is doing with Natal.
How did you win your 360?

PS1 and PS2 had great games, it just seems to me that it's hard to find anything more than Killzone, MGS, LBP, and a few other exclusives being touted for the system. The console's got potential, but I don't see any games for it that I absolutely MUST play.
And I won my 360 in a senior raffle around the time I graduated. All of the prizes were donated to the school by local businesses, so they just let us get a free one going.

I'm not sure if the Elites RROD as much as the older models. But in my opinion, people make the RROD out to be worse than it really is. It's a pain the ass, sure. But they'll fix it for free. I got mine back 3 weeks from the day it happened.
All things considered, I don't think going 3 weeks without your system should be such a deal-breaker. Hell, in that 3 weeks I enjoyed the hell out of my PS2, which I hadn't played in a while.

thank you for being the only rational human being in this entire RROD debacle. if the human race was ever overrun by a zerg rush, you would be the first person that I tried to save.

The Elite and Arcade models (the ones with the HDMI port) don't RROD as much because of a new motherboard design. I've only had my Xbox red-ring once, and it was just an overheat because I had bought a new AV cabinet with glass doors (that I later sawed off).

So, I just picked up an elite a few days ago, and wow, they really improved a lot of things. The external power supply is much smaller and lighter, the console's outside frame is tougher (no bending plastic when I pick it up), the thing runs nearly silently even without the optional installs, the disc drive is sturdier (no rattling), and the controller is lighter with positive fixes to the d-pad. I'm impressed.
