Well, Monday is the day. I'm purchasing the PS3 Slim and I was wondering if anyone here can vouch for Amazon. I have never bought off of the site and was considering buying my PS3 off of there, for the free shipping and no tax. Is it better than buying my console at Best Buy or Gamestop? I don't mind waiting a few days as I have waited years to make this purchase anyway. Thanks for any input on this.

Amazon is fucking awesome. I would absolutely say go for it. Make sure they do indeed offer free shipping on it though, sometimes you think you're buying direct from Amazon, but you're buying from a vendor, and the Super Saving shipping in unavailable.
Ever since Massachusetts raised its sales tax from 5% to 6.25% last month, I have made as many purchases as I can through Amazon instead of real stores. I will almost certainly never buy a video game in a physical store again. Amazon also tends to be very competitively prices. We got a new router last month, and all our old wireless adapters worked poorly with it. My brother went to best buy got one for $84 plus tax. I got the same one off Amazon for $65, no tax, free shipping. This probably won't matter with the PS3, but Amazon also watches prices, and if some drops in price within a certain amount of time, you get a credit. I got a $3 credit on Punch-Out from them. I had preordered it for $49.99, and two weeks later they were selling it at $46.99, and they comped me.
So yeah, definitely go with Amazon.

I have only had good experiences with amazon BUT I usually don't buy from ebay type sellers, just from Amazon directly. But seriously, for 18 bucks I would go pick it up at the store instead of having such precious cargo make another trip in delivery transit. Amazon prices rule on a lot of products...I got HD cables for my Wii for about 30% of the retail cost.
Edit: And fuck the Mass sales tax hike, I am confident that online and New Hampshire purchases will jump considerably and cancel out the hike for the state.

Speaking of the sales tax hike, the Herald had an awesome front page story the other day. They got a picture of one of the legislators who voted to raise the sales tax (and put an increased tax on alcohol) buying liquor at a New Hampshire Liquor Store.

Yea, you can't go wrong with Amazon. They are by far the best, most reliable, and quickest online retailer. Just make sure you're buying from Amazon themselves and not one of their "sponsored retailers"; sometimes it isn't totally clear.
If you can wait the extra 2 or 3 days shipping time to get the PS3, it's worth the savings.

Amazon's service is impeccable. My only concern would be having a dipshit UPS guy drop the package too hard and break your PS3

Amazons free shipping is usually good but CAN take up to two weeks. It could ship from Cali and take a while.

SAY WHAT? do you have details for this awesomeness? Keep in mind if you keep a balance on a line of credit you will most certainly end up costing yourself more money in the long run, which Sony is banking on.

I know what you mean. I'm stuck with 7.5% sales tax, except out at the mall where, because of a TIF project, the tax is even higher. I'd stick with Amazon for any major purchases.

I say go for it as well. I've bought many games from them in the past. I usually buy collectors/limited editions of games from them as well because of the free shipping.
For a while they were not shipping video games to PO boxes but they seem to allow them now for these products since I ordered Modern Warfare 2 from then and picked my PO box and it didn't bring up anything saying they couldn't ship it there.

The only thing I don't get is why some of the older PS3 models (the ones with PS2 compatibility) are going for $600-$900 used on Amazon. You can still get a backwards-compatible one on Gamestop's website for $330.

Capcom Now Offering Two PSN Game Bundles
If you're looking to buy some PlayStation Network games, you might want to have a look at this latest deal by Capcom. The publisher is releasing two bundles, with notable games including Super Street Fighter II HD Remix and 1942.
According to Capcom-Unity, the Super Pack will contain seven games, plus additional downloadable content, for $49.99. Meanwhile, the Combo Pack will include four PSN titles plus DLC for $29.99.
Here's the complete list:
Super Pack
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix
Flock!
Age of Booty
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 HD Remix
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil with It Came from Uranus DLC
Combo Pack
1942
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 HD Remix
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
It Came from Uranus DLC
Both packs should be available now for the PlayStation Network. No word on whether a similar deal will be available for the Xbox 360, but if it turns out to be successful, there's a good chance it will turn up there as well. |

Meh.
Now if there was a Capcom fighting pack with Puzzle Fighter, Street Fighter II, Vampire Savior, and Street Fighter 3, now that would be badass.

They have amazing customer service too, so if you do have any trouble with the shipping, don't hesitate to call their customer service. Of all the stuff I've bought there, one time I had trouble with the shipping. I paid for overnight shipping, and I didn't get it for four days. I called customer service, and they immediately refunded me the cost of the shipping with barely any questions asked.

Yeah, their customer service is awesome. They had a deal on the Naked Gun Trilogy where it was like $8 for all three movies or something ridiculous like that. I ordered it, and waited and waited, but it never came. After about two and a half weeks, I started to get pissed. I contacted customer service and complained; they apologized sent it to me overnight.

That made me wonder : do you have a federal tax in the States? Here, the federal sales tax is 5%.
With the provincial tax added it becomes around 10% to 15% depending on where you live.
I went to wikipedia, and learned I don't know shit about taxes, so please answer because me is dumbass.

We have a federal income tax. You can either pay it yearly, or have it withheld from your paycheck. There is no federal sales tax. Additionally, some cities and counties and have additional sales taxes. For example, NYC has a higher sales tax than the rest of New York. This is very rare, though.

I'll throw in another vouch for Amazon, and also a good word for their third party vendors, with corollary--I only buy from very high rated sellers, and I've only bought books. Not that I *wouldn't* buy electronics or whatever from a third party vendor if the price was right, I just haven't had occasion to.
I will say the prices (again, on books) are so good that I rarely buy from Amazon proper even.

I have never had a bad experience with Amazon.com. I will say that you should be very careful to understand their processing and shipping policies before you select how you will receive your product.
There free 2 day shipping can often times take 3 business days to process and then two days to ship. Free ground that says 5-8 business days can take several weeks. For example, if you were to order later on a Thursday, it could take three days to process, putting you at Wednesday the next week before it ships. Then if it doesn't ship until later in the day it could take 8 days from then to arrive. That means you might not get it until two Friday's from then. I have seen this go on for about 15 real days. Business days fucking suck. Just realize that this is how it works and it isn't a scam or anything. If you want faster shipping you need to pay for it.

The store that Dr. Jeebus works at sells stuff on Amazon, and he told me that because it's not entirely clear to some people that you're buying from a third party vendor, Amazon hold its third party vendors to very high standards. The way it works this:
1. With anything sold through Amazon, Amazon is responsible from the billing
2. Amazon will not bill the buyer until the item has shipped
3. In order to prove to Amazon that you have indeed shipped the item, you must provide them with a tracking number from the USPS
So you can't fuck someone over and not send the item. I'm not sure what happens with third party vendors in terms of quality control though. I'll ask.

I've only ordered from Amazon three times and only one of those turned out less than ideal. Long story short is that I was hunting around for a certain D&D book and wasn't paying attention. I wound up ordering the wrong edition of the book I wanted. When it finally arrived it wasn't even the book I'd ordered, I told the dealer this and he confessed he must've made a mistake as he didn't have any copies of the book I'd ordered. However, I did receive a full refund.
I say go for it.
