Just wondering if it was the exact same games, and not the SMB All-Star treatment. That would be lame.

Games are the same. No BS treatment

it even has the same slowdown

That's some BS treatment right there, it's not like the CPU is being hindered.

But the authenticity of having a bunch of bad guys on the screen and the game slowing down is damn fun....annoying...but fun.

I always figured the slow down was actually me trancing in to some hyper aware state in my quest to beat the game.

I am a collector. This is my story.

I grew up with videogames. My dad started the track. I was born in 1981, but by 1983 I'd had, through my father, an Atari 2600, a Colecovision, an Intellivision, and several games for each. By the time I learned how to read, I could also play videogames. As I aged a little bit, these were things I did for fun until I got an NES somewhere around the upper-mid 80s, and I never looked back. I opened everything, I played everything, I had a subscription to Nintendo Power and EGM and Gamepro... this was my life.

It never stopped. One of the lamest stories I can tell is that I could've actually lost my virginity at THIRTEEN YEARS OLD... had I been not geeky enough to put down Chrono Trigger and go to a party my then girlfriend invited me to (a party, she tells me ten years later on MySpace, that she totally had every intention of doing me at, hah).

It never stopped. Most kids I went to high school with had several vices, be it smoking or adderall or beer... my two vices were sex and videogames, and despite the fact that I came into my own and was actually pretty sexed up for a videogame dork, I was still a damn videogame dork. I had a job all through high school, and what I didn't save for a post graduation vacation went towards more damn games.

I found that a lot of my classics have since burnt out and needed replacing. My original copy of Earthbound finally gave up the ghost, which was heartbreaking because I played it fifty thousand times over. Chrono Trigger has to be re-experienced through the magic of the DS or the PS1 edition.

I buy a ton of games even now. I don't buy them to have them collect dust on a shelf. I play the piss out of them. And it pisses me off that people have Earthbound on their shelves collecting dust because they're only looking for a profit, when I could be enjoying a classic I got millions of miles out of... if only I was willing to spend fucking eighty dollars on obsolete technology.

Unless Nintendo finally put the fucker on Virtual Console.

I collect. I collect to play. Fuck you price gouging profit monglers.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

Speaking of prices, they tend to be outlandish. Here's some of my finds, along with the absolute cheapest I've found them. I will note the ones I didn't buy:

Sonic 3- $25 (didn't buy... got the Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube)
Earthbound- $80 (didn't buy... love it, but I'm not going to spend that much)
Chrono Trigger- $55 (didn't buy... I have it on DS and PS1)
Final Fantasy III- $29 (got this one...you'll NEVER find that cheaper)
Battletoads- $15
Super Mario Bros. 2- $9.99 (didn't get, cheaper on Wii)
Super Mario Bros. 3- $15.99 (same as part 2)
Star Fox- $15
Street Fighter 2 Special Championship Edition- $19.99
Little Nemo- The Dream Master- $15
Ninja Gaiden Trilogy- $30
Super Mario All-Stars- $15.99
Mario Kart- $24.99

I suppose I should list some of the cheaper ones too:

Commando- $2.99
Bionic Commando- $3.99
Super Mario World- $5
Legend Of Zelda- Link To The Past- $8
Journey to Silius- $5
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- $4
Chip And Dale's Rescue Rangers- $5.99
Super Mario 64- $8.99
Donkey Kong 64- $11.99
Star Fox 64- $12
Mischief Makers- $9

I hear where your coming from Undeath, it sucks the prices get jacked up so high for us people who actually wanna play the game...but I guess I can't complain, whatever makes them happy. On the bright side though, it seems a lot of prices have been coming down. Final Fantasy on the NES seems to go for about fifteen dollars now on EBay, and I remember it going for about double that a couple years ago.

I don't know about you guys, but to keep the collector's value of my games, I wouldn't play them, because that would mean taking them out of the box. I'd just play other versions. In the past that would have meant buying unboxed versions to go along with the boxed ones, but, nowadays, I can just use the Virtual Console or ROMS.

Of course, I'm dirt poor, so collecting is not something I do much of. And when I did, I knew that it would only take one really hard year, and I'd have to sell them all.

Not to go on a rant, but FUCK what I call 'profit collectors'. I'm not nor have I ever been the greedy type. Materialistic, maybe, but not greedy. More or less, I never cared about money, just the stuff money gets. Collectors strike me as greedy, not materialistic. It wouldn't be an issue if it was materialistic because they are probably the type that collect games but actually fucking play them. Greed bothers me because it's just sitting on a fucking shelf while it's owner is dallying around with dollar signs in their eyes. Basically, there's no fucking reason Earthbound should be sitting on someone's shelf unplayed so some asshole can gouge someone out of $80 for what would cost $10 at most if Nintendo got off their asses and Virtual Consoled it. I take issue with this beyond games, as well... like comics. What good is a fucking comic if it's gonna sit there not-rotting in a wrapper? Let the players enjoy their games, let the readers enjoy their comics, and find a more productive and less annoying way to attempt to make a fucking quick buck: Win the lottery.

At a flea market today, I saw Final Fantasy 2 (SNES) for about $15, and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past ($12). I picked up Alundra (Playstation) for only $5.
